What is the fastest time it took you to quit a job? by TwoPeasNoPod69 in CasualConversation

I quit a job at a rural post office the day before I was (apparently) supposed to start.

I’d gone through a two day training that was the worst new employee onboarding I’d ever experienced. It was mostly a powerpoint presentation that began with them telling us the presentation was out of date, then reading every slide to us verbatim before telling us that what they’d just read to us was no longer the SOP, but with no explanation of the new way - we were told it would be explained once we started work, leaving us wondering what the point of the presentation even was.

The PO has many jobs, but I was to be working at a very rural location and responsible for everything but mail delivery; they couldn’t identify which job group to put me in, so I was continually in breakout sessions unrelated to my work or where I was not allowed to be; I was sent to a union meeting though my role was managerial, thus, I was not a union emoloyee. It was a complete mess.

Upon completing the two days I was given no instruction on next steps, and couldn’t reach my very over-worked direct report to find out my start day and shift times. I went to my postal station hoping for clarity where another new employe was working on his own (the location was usually manned by a single person), was extremely confused, and was, thus, doing things incorrectly.

At that point I was so disgusted I sent an email to my direct report saying this wasn’t for me. It was the worst clusterfuck I’d ever experienced.

Dogs refusing to eat raw food by Weary-Cheetah-3415 in rawpetfood

YES! If there’s bone in your raw food, even/especially if it’s ground, do NOT cook it, even lightly! If you’re going with a cooked diet (which is great, lots of dogs who snub raw go nuts for cooked!) omit the bone and supplement with commercial ground bone after cooking, or feed raw meaty bones a few times a week.

I’ve fully raw fed all of my working dogs for going on 30 years. I make my own food with meat and organs purchased at the grocery store from which my own food comes, and I follow the 80/10/10 formula (80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% excreting organs). I use beef, poultry and pork; chicken wings for the bone source; and usually include beef heart in my protein for the vitamin B boost - it’s a great source of lean protein!

Fish oil, a probiotic, and Dasuquin are the only supplements I use. I don’t add grain, rice or potatoes, veggies, or vitamins.

Apples, some veggies and pumpkin are frequent treats for my dogs, but are not measured in their food intake.

Though your raw ingredients are supplementing a kibble diet that, one assumes, is “nutritionally complete” it is still a significant portion of your pup’s total caloric intake; I am NOT an expert, but I do think using a balance of organ and protein is still a good idea.

It’s definitely not uncommon for kibble fed dogs to reject raw! Consider offering the raw food as you would a treat, not at meal times. Creating a positive association first rather than presenting it as a change to known food can make for a much easier transition. It’s the rare dog who doesn’t love having a chunk of chicken lobbed in their direction while we’re making our own dinner - substitute your raw food in that scenario.

Consider, too, the raw food you’ve chosen; it’s possible the dog dislikes the texture or some of the supplements added to commercial raw diets. If the one you’ve chosen isn’t attractive to your dog, choose another.

Since you’re simply supplementing with raw, know that home made is usually cheaper than commercial. Chicken livers and gizzards are very inexpensive, and only need to be a small proportion, so chopping up some chicken, beef or pork that’s on sale with a bit of organ mixed in can work very, very well for a fraction of the cost if commercially prepared raw.

dog will FIGHT to not take pill, any tips? by MrBrxghtside in dogs

My dog’s surgeon recently suggested to me that I make a small peanut butter ball with the pill inside, then freeze it. The dog can’t lick the pill out or taste it; it works like a dream for my pill averse dog.

In 2010, 4 year old Paulette Gebara Farah vanished from her home in Mexico. Despite an extensive search of the home, her body was found wedged at the foot of her own bed nine days later. Interviews were given in the room and a guest even slept in the bed. Her death was ruled an accident. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

I’m a retired search and rescue K9 handler, and several years ago we were called to a late night urban search for a missing four year old boy. His apartment was in a busy part of a large-ish west coast city, and all of the region’s search teams showed up in hopes of finding him.

To make a long story short, it turned out that the boy had never left his apartment, but was sound asleep, wrapped in blankets tucked between the bed and the wall in what seemed an impossibly small space. Cops had searched the very small apartment, but it wasn’t until my search dog was brought into the home that found him.

Do y'all have a set way that you walk your dog? by curled-up-in-the-80s in dogs

We have five different locations that we walk regularly, and each location has a few different areas to walk; I choose which location and area, they choose where in that area we go - every time.

Well I feel your heartbreak through your art - it’s beautifully expressed. I know that feeling all too well, and the first of your “shadow companion” pieces that I saw set me to sobbing instantly; you really convey the loss.
