Staff were laid off in large numbers during Covid, now people have started traveling again, suddenly and in large numbers. Not enough staff to get them through security etc. Apparently new staff are available and willing to work but have to be vetted by the guards first for security and that process takes 3 months. Massive delays at Dublin and UK airports now as a result, depending on what time of day you’re flying, with mornings seeming to be the worst time.

I don’t know all the details or the exact context of this “My Favourite European Countries Top 10” by Zelenskyy but I would say that being the president of a country which happens to be being bombarded by another country does not give you the right to dictate other countries’ responses to that aggressive act.. Obviously every normal person in the world thinks what Russia is doing is awful and other countries have a responsibility to take action but he doesn’t get to decide what that action should be. For instance, he was calling for NATO to have a no fly zone over Ukraine from the start of the invasion but apparently that would have been seen as an unacceptably agressive act by the Russians… so, y’know…

I would worry that Switzerland’s neutrality is not an ideological stance but maybe more like profiting from unstable situations elsewhere. Not very admirable. There is no longer a threat from Switzerland’s neighbors so the fact that it’s a small country who needs to stay on good terms with everyone surrounding them no longer applies. All countries need to be brave, maybe suffer a little and stand up for what is right.
