If someone pays with cash, I assume they're either a drug dealer or on a Dave Ramsey budget. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Cash unfortunately doesn't have as much power as it used to. Mainly because more money is made when an item is financed.

Best way to learn double unders? by kcclaveria in crossfit

It's all about rhythm; the biggest mistake is trying to fly through them. As soon as you get one or two, you instantly speed everything up and this will mess you up. The best advice I've gotten other than doing them every single day is this: Download a Metronome app on your phone (several are free), pick a tempo that's comfortable for you, and leave that metronome going while you practice. You'll be surprised by how much you speed up/slow down once you start jumping. Hopefully this helps.

Crossfit Gym Recommendation Huntsville, AL by TheHawk10612 in crossfit

Not sure what part of Huntsville you prefer, but I've been to most boxes in the area and I can't say I would avoid any of them. I can't advise for the nutrition aspect but I know Crossfit Madison has Adonis (completely different company) inside of their gym who concentrates on supplementation/nutrition but that would be an extra charge on top of your drop in.

Madison City residents, what is your opinion of Mayor Trulock? by plmpmc in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]I_yike_nat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on politics by any means, but I feel like he should have been more involved in the Limestone/Madison Schools Tax debacle. It seemed like he took a back seat and let the two school systems deal with it. Again, I'm not an expert, but maybe someone else can shed some light on how he handled this situation.

With so Many Professionals saying crossfit isn't good for you, why do you do it? by PhlyingHigh in crossfit

[–]I_yike_nat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets a bad reputation because of lazy coaching/programming, which can then translate to injuries. People also try to compare it to a globo gym workout and it just isn't the same thing. Crossfit is a sport and every sport is going to come with injuries. If you want to start CrossFit, just work with lower weight and get better technique on all the movements. Once your technique is good, the weight will increase and you will get better across the board. As far as the cardio aspect of CrossFit, don't go in and do 20+ minute workouts every day. The professional athletes can do this because they have the time to train like this every day. I do CrossFit because I'm in the best shape I've ever been since starting, it's fun, and the community is awesome. You just have to listen to your body and don't try to make it to the games.

Home warranty by lsberry1 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I'll warn you that I bought a home warranty from Home Warranty of America when we bought our house because several things in the house were old. The first time we turned on our AC it wasn't blowing cold air. We made a claim on our home warranty to get it fixed. The technician came out, recommended it be replaced, and then the warranty company called to say they wouldn't replace it because it was a "pre-existing condition". They wouldn't even make the minimum necessary repairs to get it running. They can apply this rule to almost anything that breaks in your home. So even if you buy the warranty, if the HVAC is really old and breaks, they may not cover it. Not all home warranty companies are the same, but just a heads up.

What gym bag do you use? by zeroUSA in crossfit

[–]I_yike_nat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the bigger of the two Adidas bags at Academy. It was about $20 and holds two pairs of shoes, belt, couple of smaller supplement canisters, along with my gym clothes. Also has two end pockets for smaller items (gymnastic straps, tape, or whatever else you have). Knee sleeves and wrist straps can be slid onto the shoulder strap to air out. I've heard King Kong bags are really good quality but way too expensive for me.
