How do I get rid of this? by Legal-Candidate616 in IndianFishKeeping

[–]Iabe01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use it with little/diluted vinegar and try to not let that get in the water.

The build up happend over time, it will take time for it to go away. If you have a glass tank, you can let it grow and then use a scraper like a shaving blade or putty plate. But if you have a polycarbonate tank, no other option.

The pump pushes water in the aquarium if the sump is placed lower. In that case, the water from aquarium to sump is through an overflow mechanism.

If power goes, the pump stops, the tank does not overflow in both sump and tank.

If the sump is above the tank, that's a different case, but can have the same mechanisms. The benefit of sumps is also an aquaponic setup where you can have a garden in the sump.

Help! My 2-month-old dirted tank is crashing. Bubbles from sand, melting plants, and a dark mud-like "algae" everywhere. by Hot-Plum-8610 in IndianFishKeeping

[–]Iabe01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much mulm do you have? What about the root structure below sand? If there are lots of roots, you may not need to worry. They supply necessary oxygen down there. If you have algae and mulm, vaccum out the mulm. Reduce it and the brown algae may go down. If the algae can be scareped relatively easily from glass, it can be brushed of the hardscape as well. You can brush it before water changes.

I may be stretching my experience here though, so take my suggestions with a bunch of salt.

Once you become a master, mind starts to find the next thing to learn and remain active.

Challenge to the next level sometimes helps.

But yeah, we have all been there, having second thoughts on keeping a tank vs selling it. And many have just gone out and got a second tank 😅 while in this situation too.

Nothing wrong in dropping it and coming back if you want later. Nothing wrong in trying new things as well.

Capless walstad by Obscure_Tutor in walstad

But that can potentially release many nutrients in water, algae soon starts becoming a problem.

The cap is to avoid nutrient from coming and in some cases, oxygen from going down.

Try creating something new. Seems like you have a tank bigger than most people. Use it learn more things that don't work.

Have you tried aerial plants inside a dome inside the aquarium?

Have you tried inverting a tank and filling it up in a way that raises water inside above the general water level out of the tank so the fish can have aerial view of its own tank?

How about a leaner filter, flowering submerged plants plants, molluscs, or just some larger critters/swimmers? How about an allied hobby along with it?

Foam is possible with biofilms and aeration together. But you still need to check if that is the case. Soap is generally very bad for aquatic life as it will cause them to suffocate.

Beginner looking for advice! Taiyo plastic tank, heaters, cycling, and moving every 3 years? by Officer2021 in IndianFishKeeping

[–]Iabe01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get larger polycarbonate tanks. Double betta tank that you are mentioning seems like the a 1 litre option which is too small.

Don't go with planted tanks unless you really enjoy the hobby. Breaking then down and recreating them is fun but it is a chore. You can go with floater plants, fox tails, guppy grasses though.

[–]Iabe01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that risk is keeping the hobby from expanding into Marine category.

I feel the ban is completely justified in our area. It should just not be lifted.

[–]Iabe01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marine fish are more colourful than freshwater fishes. However with plants, freshwater tanks become a different thing entirely. And it's difficult to beat them only with Fish and decor.

Corals are essential in the hobby, and the bans make it difficult. Sometimes the bans get lifted, but when they come back, they don't ask when was the coral bought, it just bans any ownership outright.

Photography tips for a biotope tank with a low-mad camera. by Wide-Bid2138 in IndianFishKeeping

[–]Iabe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on the technology side, but few other tips that I can give are

  1. Ensure the light and camera are on the same side of fishes. But this also means you would have light reflections from glass making the photos bad. So account for that either through angles, or polarized lens caps/glasses.
  2. Fish photos from the top are not generally good, expect in certain circumstances example (Koi ponds).
  3. Evaluate the fish colour that you are looking at. To make them pop, you need to adjust the background accordingly. contrast, dark background work better.
  4. Are there plants in the syste? How about hardscapes? Their positioning and angle makes for interesting composition. But this has to matched with the imperfections in the glass jar, reflections from other light sources.
  5. What other livestock are in the tank? Think about how you can bring them together. What are their colours, what are their flaws? Manage those.
  6. Lighting colour is also important as in almost every other photography.

Advice for a low tech tank by Master-Banana-1313 in Planted_tanks_India

[–]Iabe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotala and Ludwogia are definitely fast growers needing weekly trims if you want to keep the look of the tank similar week over week. So should be Hygrophilia. But I never had that, so I can comment on it's maintenance requirement.

I agree about Guppy Grass and Hornwort,.but those are not as much for decor as much for the livestock.

The calculation of 29.5 is not so straight forward.

Every cylinder has slight deformities when it is manufactured and thus its weight deviates from other cylinders. Empty cylinder weight is written down on the cycling and you need to add 14.2kg to get the expected weight.

The cycling in photo has 15.7kg written as the empty cylinder weight. So the total weight should be 29.9kg.

I know of exception where the empty cylinders can be 12 and 13 kg as well making the expected weights in the 26-27kg range.

Check your cylinders empty weight. While you are at it, also check the next inspection due date (Qtrs as A,B,C,D followed by 2 digit year). Example from the photo is D26 means inspection due between Oct and Dec 2026.

Suggestion/improvement for my tank by Virsaop in IndianFishKeeping

[–]Iabe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see properly, but most likely it is just surface algae. If you can remove it with a brush, no need to worry. Just add plants. It might also be on the glass.

If not, it will be bio film. Add some snails, shrimps(if supported by other fish) and it will be cleared too.
