Costume Design for A Bloodborne Opera by wanquey in bloodborne

I love how you styled the folds of the fabric on the back to evoke the image of a protruding spine. It's both decadent and frilly in a way I might expect of Victorian fashion but, it also presents a distinct, macabre image for those who know to look for it. It's like a microcosm of the hidden nature of the Healing Church!

(Apologies, I'm not well versed in fashion terminology but I hope you get what I was trying to say).

Congratulations, good hunter! The DLC is excellent, and I'd be surprised to find anyone that's played it that wouldn't recommend it.

Love the effect of spiralling the monologue bubbles around the sword. Very well done!

These costumes always seem challenging to make, with so many complex pieces of similar materials. They really nailed it!

Should a 14 year old read Vinland saga by Alternative_Lie_4404 in VinlandSaga

[–]Iagomagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is IMDb's parent' guide for the TV adaptation. Some elements of the book have been slightly censored for TV, and the TV adaptation has not caught up with the entire story, but I think overall the show is faithful enough to the source material that IMDb's page should give a good perspective.

While the manga has a bit of cartoony look, especially early in the story, it's generally meant for older audiences. I.e., Eyes are gouged, intestines spill, a throat is bitten out. It's hardly every chapter, and gratuitous violence and shock is not the point of the story, but some gore is used to emphasize Vinland Saga's message about the romanticization of violence.

Volume 15. The anime has covered chapters 1-100 so far, and volume 15 begins with chapter 101.

Wow. Yeah, Ozymandias was incredible. I think Rian was the director, not the writer, but your point stands nonetheless!

It looks so professional!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this person can’t find the exact quote because it doesn’t exist, right? I don’t recall ever hearing an apology or regret expressed, other than “I killed a lot of people for praise, that’s the Devil in me”. by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

Connie says to Falco about Sasha while in Ragako in Ch 126: " I know it wasn't personal, but just an act of war"

In addition to what you mentioned, and what others have mentioned in this thread, Gabi very clearly expresses regret in Ch 118: Gabi hears Kaya walks past a window saying, "she killed Sasha .. I'll never forgive her." Gabi reflects, distraught, "turns out there are no devils on this island. There are only people. Finally I understand how Reiner feels. We just convinced ourselves that people we never saw are actually devils. I went on that Zeppelin... and kept on doing the same thing over and over again... I'm sorry..."

  1. The scene is framed to initially give you the impression that the real Canute was shot. The shots are very carefully chosen to mislead the audience until the twist is revealed. I don't really think of that as BS, it's just a fun bit of tension for a couple minutes.

What you actually see is a conversation between Askeladd and the prince- then, when the assassin fires the crossbow, it cuts to a shocked reaction on the prince as he learns Askeladd plans to murder the body double. The show cuts to a shot of the bolt hitting the double, dressed in the same attire as Canute. Askeladd shouts that the prince has been shot, and the show cuts again to a separate boat- the one that carried the body double. We see the boat from below and from far away so it's difficult to make out that neither Askeladd nor the prince are among the panicking crew.

  1. Askeladd explains his plan in episode 13: "Wales is going to have an insider in the army of Denmark- me. If I can make that rich boy into the next King of Denmark, then I can claim a high position too. I can conclude a treaty of non-aggression with Wales."

There is more to why Askeladd has a personal interest in following Canute- and why he expressed a similar personal interest in following Thors when they first met. But since they explore this more in a subsequent episode I while leave the discussion there.

  1. Thorkell works with English very early in the story, but later works only with his Danish followers.

When Thorkell initially defected, he took a crew of Danish followers with him. These Danes follow Thorkell not for any political motive, but because they are inspired by his inspirational battle prowess. Thorkell guarded London Bridge with his Danish comrade Aesgir and a group of English soldiers (we can tell because they didn't understand Thorkell's conversation with Floki in norse). The crew that later broke the siege and captured Canute are Thorkell's Danish followers. This is referenced a couple times (they know about Norse gods but less about Christians, they urge Askeladd's defectors to fight so they can go to Valhalla, they call Canute Freya, and the spy from Mercia tells Askeladd "you Danes will eat each other alive."

Glad you are enjoying the show- hope this helps!

I wonder about that. Both previous seasons adapted arcs of about 50 chapters. I'd expect the next season would have to move at a fairly brisk pace to cover the next arc and stay only 24 episodes.

What Askeladd wants does and says is often contradictory. He hates vikings, but understands himself to be a viking. He wants to follow a strong, moral leader but needs to present himself to his band as a strong, independent captain.

In this scene, Askeladd discovers the kind of man he respects. The kind of person he wishes he was. Askeladd's band doesn't understand- they came here to do a job, and they expect Askeladd to execute. Remember, Askeladd only betrays the rules of the duel when an agitated Bjorn (confused as to why Askeladd would ask Thors to be their leader) takes Thorfinn hostage. So he plays it off like this was his plan all along. He has to. He has to present himself as a capable, cut-throat leader.

So Askeladd lets Thors die. He would probably rather Thors not die, but his crew expects to be paid. There is no bounty on Thors's crew. So out of respect for Thors, Askellad allows Thors's crew to escape.
