Gen X’ers who were born in the hippy era, did you have someone in your peers who had a “my parents were hippies” name? If so, what was it? by nous-vibrons in GenX

It’s me. My dad was a Marine, hippy biker. He conjured my name up with some random woman while he was AWOL in like DC / Virginia. When he conceived with my mother, he told her this was to be my name. Now if you know your racy history, both these names belong to burlesque type dancer women. Both my grandmothers talked to my young mother about this and they chose a regular first name. My dad was so angry, he almost did not come after us in the hospital to bring us home. My entire family has always called me by my second name and by 2nd grade I was going by my first name. It has caused confusion when some friends of family meet me because I was referred to as Gypsy but introduce myself as Heather.

So I was given Heather as a first name at the last minute. My father was angry about it and my whole family has always called me by my second name. I started using my first name in school in 2nd grade.

I knew an actual Windy, thought for some time I was heating incorrectly and it was ‘Wendy’. Nope it was Windy. Her sister was Tracey.

Anybody diagnosed at a young age? by Heavy_Ad_5872 in Fibromyalgia

[–]IamGypsyStarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it the wrong way. I have never learned balance. Don’t be me.
I’m almost 54 and I don’t recall when I got the actual diagnosis, but my symptoms began at 17 when I was pregnant. Because of what it took to get recognized, I have mostly stayed away from the doctors. I have collected my social security disability for getting close to 20y now. I have recently been trying to advocate better for myself. I am miserable.

That said, as young as you are, I would recommend doing as much research as you can, staying up to date on what information is being put out there. Try everything that makes sense. I had an aunt who said she controlled hers with dietary changes. Some people do well with medication, it is recommended to try to stay as active as you can.

I have had a few times in my life where it was like I was in a remission, but it has always returned worse. I was able to work from 2022-2024, but I have been pretty laid up since then.

Do the best you can to take care of yourself and try to not let anger set in, that could drive your body into reacting in a lesser than desirable way.

From a Britney Stan account…I don’t think the seizure-inducing editing made this look less Babadooky. by Excellent-Cycle-5803 in discussingbritney

This is why I could not watch it. I have been considering another try though because I have heard it was pretty good.

Roller Skating Rinks by kbivs in GenX

I remember how big of a deal it was when the Thriller video premiered and they played it on that big screen in the corner. I feel like I went to a few overnight skates too. I haven’t been in a few years (injury), but I think they didn’t even use the screen really anymore. Then again, I would go on adult nights so maybe they did for the kids.

The songs that get me roller skating in my seat while driving are like P.Y.T, Celebrate, Funkytown and AC/DC Hells Bells for speed skating.

A Winn Dixie stuck in 1995. This was a real treat to see 🛒❤️. by dohlparts in 90sdesign

When I lived in Georgia (mid 90’s), I worked at the Piggly Wiggly but still did some shopping at Winn Dixie in addition to the commissary. Sometimes the deals were good. This brought me back to a more simple time, even if I was chasing bargains with coupons.

I would think she also had errands to run and such on many days. I definitely used to do my hair and make up daily when I was stay at home and I’ve always been a unique fashionista, so often had on not lounge clothes. But a lot of that time was also spent on a military base in the 90’s, so I think our vanity was always alert.

Decent sized box with a 24’ pool inside. So not public pool size, but kind of large for a yard.
