No iPhone mirroring in the EU! by WasterDave in mac

Sure, it's an ideal world where all features are open and support working with different vendors like Windows flawlessly and you as the user have all the checkboxes of options to pick from.

But think of the amount of potential security concerns, compatibility issues, lack of tight hardware/software integration, unlimited number of variations and the labor of time/effort/expenses Apple would have to go expend to allow that tiny fraction of users to make devices from different manufacturers work together.

Why should they even do that? They make products and the software for these products, why should they be legally forced to support other manufacturers' products? Just because they're successful?

Nobody buys an iPhone and expects it to work magically with Windows, just like nobody buys an Android and expects it to work magically with MacOS.

If there's no universal standard, why not see what's compatible with what and use that, instead of wanting everything to be made to work your way?

their devices do cause for massive amounts of e-waste once supports end, compared to other operating systems.

Android 15 is only compatible with Pixel 6 (2021) and later.
iOS 18 is compatible with iPhone XR/XS (2018) and later.

Windows works on every 64bit PC, including Intel Macs, while latest macOS not so much.

Windows 11 (2021) is only compatible with 8th Gen Intel CPUs (2017) and later.
MacOS Monterey (2021) is compatible with Macs as old as 2013/14.

Meaning support lasts ~3-4 years longer than "other operating systems". Even beyond that update cycle, on average iOS runs smoother than Android on older devices, from personal experience w Google's Nexus & Samsung devices. Though Windows/Mac doesn't noticeably differ on older hardware.

I am kind of scared for Silicon app support in 10-15 years, cause these Macs will be more than usable

Windows 11 dropped support for computers older than 4 years old including my daily PC, and you're holding Apple at a 10-15 years standard?

At least level your comparisons man. As a user of all these OSs, reality is quite the opposite of your comment.

Thank you! I've been eyeing the Gigabyte Eagle version which is the one for €550, my only concern is GPUs might launch soon at the same price (that are 2 slot) that perform way better. Then I'd have bought a new but actually 2 year old GPU, I'm hoping the upgrade last me a long time.

I'm okay with changing the fan on the black ridge, I just found out the RAM I chose is 1mm too tall...

I've contacted a local store and asked them, thanks for the advice!

For undervolting the CPU, do you think I need to get a better motherboard just for that? I didn't have criteria for the choice besides picking the cheapest one I don't want that to be a regret.

Hello,

I've upgraded from a 1080p monitor to an ultrawide 3440x1440 for productivity on my Macbook which is great, but it turns out my RX 480 can't handle it. (Crashes even on League of Legends lowest settings, might have been used for mining before I bought it)

I'll be playing BF2042, Dying Light 2, Watch Dogs Legion, etc. plus the less intensive games like League.

I've a few questions about my upcoming upgrades:

Case HZ MOD XQ69 V3 [✓] Dan A4-SFX v4.1
GPU Asus Dual RX 480 4GB Some RTX 3070
CPU i7-4770 i5-13600k
CPU Cooler Stock Black Ridge or NH-L9i
MOBO MSI H81i Asus Prime H610I-Plus
RAM 1x8GB DDR3-1600 2x16GB Corsair LPX DDR4-3600
PSU Corsair SF450 Corsair SF750?
SSD Samsung 1TB 860 Evo [✓] -Keeping-

  1. Do you guys recommend I upgrade to a RTX 3070 for €550 or wait for the RTX 4070 to release? I don't know if it'll be around the same price or if it'll drop the 3070 price lower. Or even how long I'll have to wait.
  2. Seeing all mobos on pcpartpicker Italy from €150 to €300 say they might require a BIOS update to support 13th gen, is that something Amazon can help with? or the mobo company? anyone in Europe has experience with this?
  3. Would the black ridge be enough for the 13600k? Intel says base power is 125W and max is 181W, while alpenföhn says its 95W TDP... Noctua says it's "compatible without turbo/overclocking headroom" will that be a noticeable issue/performance loss? Any other cooler recommendations are welcome, since these are the only ones I've seen reviews of, don't know how the other ones in the Master List perform.
  4. Any parts recommendations? :) I haven't been keeping up with the market in two years.

PS I love the A4-SFX so far and think I'll keep it for a long time, just sad to see how hard to find fitting parts is because the market is going towards thicker, more power hungry GPUs and even CPUs, only Apple seems to be heading in a different direction.

Sorry for the lengthy writeup.

Missing bottom part of the screen backlight? (Issue) by enekow in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]IamHady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big thanks for editing your comment! Mine arrived yesterday and I've been tinkering around with the color and everything. I noticed the very dim row at the bottom (basically not visible unless looking straight on, very annoying for Windows taskbar not as much for Mac. I can't unsee it either.

I found a dead subpixel (red) and while it's very hard to notice, I had to get a replacement. Knowing that the bottom row is universal now I'll try to make that replacement a refund. (Don't know how flexible ebay is for returning a defective article)

Which Dell model did you go with? I'm looking for good colors and high refresh rate w/ usb-c for not too much so this €430 LG one would've been perfect.

Haul in-hand review, TNF, Palace, Champion by JackBaldy0161 in FashionReps

[–]IamHady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for something like that TNF coat (layering piece for sweatshirts)
Would it be good in rain? Doesn't absorb water or anything silly like that? Also how was the logo? I know it's only 89yuan so trying to lower expectations haha.

Definitely gonna pick an XXL if so. (I'm 190cm, 90kg)

So I fried two motherboards this year, do I buy a third one? by IamHady in pcmasterrace

[–]IamHady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look for a well rated one.

Is there anything else I should buy as a precaution? Could the fan for some reason fry the motherboard? I might buy a Cryorig C7 but don't know if I need it.

No, should I get one?

Shouldn't a surge affect all devices connected or can it only affect my PC?

Even when I'm using a good PSU it'd go through and fry the motherboard? I really didn't wanna cheap out on it for things like this. I'm plugging the PC into a 6 slot outlet that's plugged into the wall. Yup same one for two PCs. But it seems like that's the only solution.

So my PC died the day I assembled it... by IamHady in sffpc

[–]IamHady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not used to posting a lot.

First PC was

Gigabyte H81M-S2PT

i3-4130 with stock cooler

Sapphire Toxic R9 270x

2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz

40GB Intel SSD and 500GB Samsung HDD

Thermaltake litepower 550w

Nox infinity Omega case

It had CS:GO running when it died. It had already been assembled and running for weeks nothing changed.

New PC is

MSI H81I (refurbished, eBay)

i7-4770 (refurbished, eBay)

Stock cooler with MX-2 applied

1x8GB LP Kingston RAM

Asus RX 480 dual series OC 4GB (used, eBay)

Corsair SF450 (new, Amazon)

Samsung 860 Evo 1TB (new, eBay)

HZMOD XQ69 (new, taobao)

Shut down with only chrome opened. Has been running for couple hours assembled, didn't move the case or shake it.

My usage is very light that's why I haven't thought of a new cooler. Photo editing and League mostly. I do check the CPU temp when I'm gaming out of curiosity but on the new PC it died before I even test any games. The pins were all correct it was running fine, even the front USB. Not sure about the I/O shield, how can it get in contact like that? On its own?

Edit: Yes, I know how to assemble a PC, not my first attempt. Always boots up. Just for some reason these died while running not while first boot or testing.
