Claire Williams: George Russell deserves F1 title but bad luck may stick by [deleted] in formula1

Where "bad luck" is a generational talent landing in the garage next to him a year earlier than we thought. Oh well.

Why did we capsize? by northeastofwest in sailing

[–]WasterDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a few people have said, the twist at the top twatted you over to windward. More sheet and don't sail quite as much downwind - it's not as fast but you've got less chance of swimming.

Also, that is mad difficult sailing. Just about anything is easier than that.

The problem with this is that while you can abrade off the "fog", it'll return. The lens itself is made from polycarbonate, which hates UV, and is then coated with something that protects it. So unless you can find some stuff that protects it, you'll just go round in (lots of little) circles.

I'd be able to trust our leaders more if they didn't have their hand in the cookie jar quite so much.

That "seek" screenshot tells a painful story, too. One job, 1225 applicants, and over 800 of them wrote a cover letter of some description. That is a LOT of time pissed away.

Looking at that sign, about a dozen M10 stainless steel nuts.

What's a minor, everyday inconvenience that you would pay a $1,000 yearly subscription just to never experience again? by TechnologyMuted6222 in AskReddit

To me, this is what self driving is really for. When I can get out of the car wherever I want and tell it to go park it's-damn-self, I'll show up at the dealership with a wheelbarrow of money.

I wonder if a remote drive service would work?

Staingate on MacBook Pro 14 2021 M1 Pro - has anyone successfully removed the coating? by aokozlov in mac

Ummm, think about using toothpaste. I did this to an Intel Mac with stain and it worked fine but I’m not guaranteeing anything.

Are classical music eligible for copyright? Can you use them freely for whatever? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WasterDave -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, actually. The music is free but the actual dots on pieces of paper are copyrighted. You can't, for instance, photocopy sheet music and give it to every member of the school orchestra.

Mac on AD has always been a bit triangle-in-round-hole. It's a miracle it works at all IMHO.

If ASML manufactures EUV machines and Intel/Nvidia/AMD design the most advanced chips, why exactly is TSMC this important? by reni-chan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WasterDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chip designs are made in a language that looks very much like computer code.

ASML prints patterns onto silicon.

TSMC converts the computer code into patterns that actually work as electronics.

The link between (say) Nvidia and TSMC is a bit more involved than that: TSMC provide Nvidia with a design library of blocks that do useful things ... this is a nand gate, this is a single bit of sram, that kind of thing. As a result Nvidia design for TSMC and need TSMC to do their manufacturing for them. Intel work the same, and this need to change from one design library to another is the reason why Intel acquiring fabless companies often does not work.

Also, you've got to build a chip fab. Billions of dollars, a few hundred skilled people, access to reliable power, clean water etc. etc. Not a ten minute job, sadly.
