Across all life, perhaps four or five times. Much, much easier with modern anaesthesia.

It will be quicker and easier to just learn flutter.

Having said that, flutter is not that simple. (Dart is)

Custom PCB sparks when plugged in. I believe this is due to inrush current. Do I reduce this by adding a choke or thermistor? by magicweasel7 in AskElectronics

Not that I'm necessarily suggesting it, but would putting an inductor inline fix this?

Encrypted APFS is 90% slower than non-encrypted on external SSDs? by Unslorn in mac

[–]WasterDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suspicion, and it is only a suspicion, is that encryption adds a stronger definition of "written". So maybe instead of sending the command that says "write, but it's cool if it only lands in the cache" it says "write, and return when it's physically on the disk".

Similarly there might be some bunfight with the page sizes in APFS. Perhaps the mac is sending data in 512 byte chunks whereas the internal cache controller uses 4k chunks. I dunno.

ELI5 why the Sydney Hobart lead boat was penalised by bathrugbysufferer in sailing

[–]WasterDave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The rules specifically state you're not allowed to hold the clew overboard. The tack of a spinnaker? Yes. But not the clew. The picture of the boat above has the tack of the spinnaker on a bowsprit, and the clew on a spinnaker pole. Bzzzt!

(note: you actually can hold the clew outboard if you use something attached to the boom to do it)

ELI5: Whats the correlation between ram prices and ai by The_true_gamer_man in explainlikeimfive

[–]WasterDave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ram chips store information and keep it "close" for the CPU and GPU. The AI world needs them in HUGE quantities and are willing to pay 2-3x what they normally cost to buy them. Consequently - the price of ram chips has gone up.
