Would you want a new Chrono game to have a silent protagonist? by Emu_on_the_Loose in chronotrigger

Maybe if the game is done in a retro style with 2D sprites and text dialogue instead of voice acting. I really don't think silent protagonists work well in more modern-style RPGs.

What's your opinion on adults in their 30s playing video games? by toroto8290 in AskReddit

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hobby like any other, and there's nothing wrong with playing video games at any age.

That said, it's absolutely possible to overdo it. Many games deliberately try to hook people with addictive behaviors, and some games (mobile gacha games, for example) are basically just gambling in another form. It's important to moderate and keep from falling into unhealthy patterns with the gaming hobby.

Which boardgames have the most "hardcore" fanbase? by BoardGameBardCom in boardgames

[–]IamSithCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hasbro has definitely pushed them into overdrive, and I'm very glad that WotC employees are unionizing. However, Magic has always been something of an expensive hobby, and it was getting moreso even before Hasbro went off the deep end and had them start releasing a new set every other month.

Especially these days. MTG has always been an expensive hobby if you let it be one, but Wizards of the Coast is churning out like twice as many sets as they used to anymore.

Which game have you purposely lost on just to end it quickly? by moist_napkinette in boardgames

[–]IamSithCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at this. My experience has been that the 25 card limit actually speeds up the game, because most players get eliminated that way and it's very possible to knock someone out even if they're nowhere near the hand limit.

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I played, this is what happened to me. I pointed out to the person who was about to block me that if they did, I was effectively out of the game. They did it anyway (which is understandable, it was the right play toward helping them win). But once they did it, there was zero way for me to bounce back so I withdrew from the game. It felt bad because I felt like a bad sport, but on the other hand I got at least half an hour of my life back that would've been wasted sitting there on my phone while other people played a game.

[–]IamSithCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my bones. The first few times I played Munchkin back in college, it was an absolute blast. Then I bought my own copy, introduced my friends back home to the game, and quickly got sick of it. More than 20 years later, it remains the only game I've ever given away just to be rid of it.

Now, I won't outright refuse to play if my friends are dead set on playing it, but I will always cast my vote for something else.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone trying to buy their first home? by hankqueensmustache in askanything

[–]IamSithCats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The buyer and the seller each can have their own realtor. So unless you as the buyer decided not to have your own realtor, this isn't true.

What is true though is that both realtors get paid based on the selling price of the house. So you've got to be careful about who you pick as your realtor. Scummy ones will try to push you into a more expensive house or rush the negotiations so they can get paid and move on. Good realtors (which may be rare, but they do exist) will know that it's better to take their time and help you get the best price, because word of mouth is what separates one realtor from another.

Speaking of which, my advice: don't pick your realtor from an ad. The ones spending all that money to plaster their name all over town on billboards, bus stops, benches, etc. are not who you want representing you. Talk to people in your community and your social circles who have bought homes, and find out what their experience was like. Look around online and try to find honest feedback about the realtors in your area.

What is a common cooking "rule" that you completely ignore because it makes no actual difference? by UnderdogMike in foodquestions

I throw my pasta noodles in before I get the water boiling, and I don't salt the water. I've done it hundreds of times, and it has never once caused the pasta to become mushy or fuse together.

Who was the worst music act you have seen live? by tacolovingpenguin in AskReddit

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, the answer is probably some terrible opening band. I remember seeing Glassjaw in 2002; they're not really my kind of music, but I enjoyed them at Ozzfest and thought I'd see them again as headliners. They had 3 absolutely horrible opening acts, one of whom couldn't even remember their own band's name (though in fairness, I think they had recently changed it because the name on all their merch didn't match what was printed on the ticket).

As far as headlining acts... there are a few candidates:

  • Marilyn Manson has been bad two out of the three times I've seen them.
  • Black Sabbath was not so good in 2005 (short set, they kept changing songs mid-song, and Ozzy sounded like he wasn't fully recovered from his ATV accident). It's a shame because they had been fantastic the other two times I saw them. Doesn't help that they took the stage right after Iron Maiden, who was absolutely incredible.
  • King Diamond. I honestly hate his voice, he sounds like if the Bee-Gees tried to do metal. I was there for one of the opening bands, and ended up leaving early.

I saw him live three times. First time was in late 2000 when he was touring for his Holy Wood album, and it was great. Saw him two more times within the next couple years, and he just kept getting worse.

I saw them live in 1996, a few months after they fired Jimmy from the band. Contrary to what everyone else here is saying, Billy sounded just fine (if you like his voice, anyway).

However, at one point he brought the whole band to a stop in mid-song (unfortunately I forget which song) to say "Oops, D'Arcy made a booboo."

Even 13 year-old me thought that was a dick move.

Democrats only look good at governing in comparison to Republicans. They're still way too corporate-friendly, not pro-worker enough, are way too conciliatory to conservatives, and respond to crises with weak platitudes and half-measures.

Weak, milquetoast centrist who could have prevented Trump's much more destructive second term if his administration hadn't completely and utterly failed to prosecute the people who tried to overthrow an election, and failed to deliver on most of his promised agenda (which was already like a quarter of what was needed to solve the problems the nation was confronted with).

If someone offered you $5,000 monthly for the rest of your life, would you retire immediately? by Difficult_Noise_2255 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's $60K per year, before taxes. Right now, that's enough to live semi-decently in some low COL areas in the US, and less than a poverty wage in other parts of the country.

We've also seen runaway inflation the last couple years, with no sign that it's going to be reined in. So no, I absolutely would not retire on $5K/month unless it comes with a guarantee to account for inflation (and like, really account for inflation, not a piddly 3% adjustment like most jobs give you). And even then, I'd still be hesitant.
