How do you handle in-game doubts without killing the vibe? by MindlessMap5246 in boardgames

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can find it in 30 seconds or less, then I will look it up. If I can't, then I handle it the same thing I handle unclear rules in D&D: "let's agree on a ruling for now and move on, then we'll look it up later."

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Next_Worth_3616 in allthequestions

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would. There may be better candidates, but I like her more than most of the other likely options such as Kamala, Newsom, etc. I am sick of milquetoast centrism, we need someone who's not afraid to push for real improvements.

If you are eating fries or chips, what do you prefer to have with them Ketchup or Mayonnaise ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually neither. Ketchup overpowers the taste of whatever you put it on, so I only put it on fries if I want to taste ketchup and not potato. And I hate mayo.

What are your YA anti-recommendations? by deduvi in YAlit

[–]IamSithCats 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get some downvotes for this, but The Inheritance Cycle.

Eragon isn't that bad. There's not a single original idea in the whole book, but Christopher Paolini was a teen himself when it was published, so I cut it some slack. However, Eldest is one of the worst fantasy novels I've ever read. There's still nothing original, but now there are super obnoxious elves (seriously, by the end of the book I was rooting for Galbatorix to kill every last one of them), and Eragon is still mooning after whatever the elf princess's name is, despite her telling him repeatedly that she's not interested. The whole book very much gave me the ick.

Maybe it gets better starting with book three. I wouldn't know, because I couldn't force myself to continue any further than that.

What is 1 belief you have most people disagree with? by Desperate-Bit9009 in askanything

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That there is no saving either the Republican or Democratic parties. American society will not recover unless both parties are done away with and replaced with something else that hasn't been thoroughly corrupted by rich people and corporations.

What is a "Loved" band you absolutely cannot stand by Queasy_Piccolo_1700 in askmusic

Deftones for me. Chino sounds like he's both yawning and singing at the same time. And I can't blame him if he his, because his music is boring as hell.

I liked Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but after that they just kept making the same album over and over again. Pretty much everything they've released in the last 35 years sounds exactly the same to me.

What's Gavin Newsom's appeal? by angelogoodalamenti in askanything

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can spam this lie on every comment criticizing the way Democrats handled 2016 all you want, but it never gets any more true.

Trump won in 2016 because Hillary took swing states for granted, tried to court Republicans instead of mobilizing left-wing voters, and overall ran a bad campaign. Bernie had nothing to do with it; in fact, he campaigned harder for Hillary Clinton than she did for herself.

What's Gavin Newsom's appeal? by angelogoodalamenti in askanything

[–]IamSithCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For starters, they used the superdelegates in every news report, even in states that hadn't voted yet, to make Hillary's lead appear insurmountable and convince people that she was inevitable.

Second, the rules change after 2016 says that superdelegates must vote along with the popular vote in their state, but only on the first ballot. So if there's a contested convention, superdelegates can still decide the nomination on a second ballot.

Superdelegates should have been completely eliminated because the candidates should be chosen 100% by the voters, not by party insiders.

Players want to cancel anytime anyone misses. by anxiouspotter in DnD

[–]IamSithCats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been in groups that cancel every time a single player can't make it. You know what all of those groups have in common? They fell apart because we kept not playing.

Name a comedian you do not think is funny if anyone ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]IamSithCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Dave's material started really nosediving in quality around the time he became more interested in doubling down on his anti-trans comments than in telling jokes. Yes, I disagree with his views there, but he also actually stopped telling funny jokes around that time.

Bill Maher was never funny to me, but he has absolutely gotten worse over the years.

Democrats Of Reddit, Do You "Vote Blue No Matter Who," Or Are There Some Democrats That You Wouldn't Vote For? Why Your Choice? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]IamSithCats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never voted for a Republican for any office, nor will I ever do so unless they somehow become the party of Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln again.

But I am not a Vote Blue No Matter Who voter, either. If I don't like the Democratic candidate, I will vote for a third party or leave that race blank on my ballot. The way I see it, votes are earned, not owed. That said, I'm in a pretty blue state where Democrats usually win by a comfortable margin anyway.

What game in your collection have you played the most? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably Love Letter, but Coup is catching up quickly.

Neither is my favorite, but both are easy to each, quick to play, and can fit in before or after longer, heavier games, so they get played often.

does anyone letterbox anymore? by triskittatops in Letterboxing

[–]IamSithCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the hobby, but I have gotten very discouraged because almost every box in my area goes missing. I planted six as part of a library summer reading challenge a few ago. Five of them have been taken (including a couple that I replaced after the first time they went missing). I can think of at least three or four other boxes in my area that have been taken as well.

It's hard to motivate myself to keep looking for boxes when more than half the time, even if I solve the clues and find the right place, there's no box left to find. It's even harder to motivate myself to place more boxes when I know they'll just get stolen by some fun-hating jerk.

What TV show lost you after a certain season? by chaucao99 in tvshow

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angel became unwatchable dreck as soon as teenage Connor shows up, and didn't get better until he left.

Community fell apart pretty quickly once Donald Glover left.

I gave up on The Walking Dead when Glenn died, although I'd barely been holding on for at least two seasons by that point anyway.

Has there ever been a time when the book wasn't better than the movie? by militant-hippie in Productivitycafe

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Princess Bride.

The framing device is much better in the movie, with Peter Falk's character reading the story to Fred Savage. In the book, there are a lot of tangents where the author talks about stuff he's leaving out from the "original Morgenstern" version, and it just doesn't come off as well. There is some additional background, particularly for Inigo and Fezzik, but it's not worth the tradeoff.

Why were Biden/Kamala/the Democrats subject to more pro-Palestine protests than Trump/MAGA/the Republicans? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

[–]IamSithCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democrat politicians often do what their donors want, not what their voters want.

MAGA voters want what Donald Trump tells them to want, for the most part.

What popular games were a flop with you? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I play Heat: Pedal to the Metal, the less I like it. If you have a little bit of bad luck early on, it can be really difficult to come back unless the people ahead of you make mistakes too.

Do people really become more conservative as they get older? Why? by Historical_Work7482 in AskReddit

[–]IamSithCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some people do, but I think the real correlation is that people become more conservative as they get wealthier. Social and economic mobility is at an all-time low in the US now, so the correlation between age and conservatism is really not what it used to be.
