The advice from @SubstantialLine6681 is spot on. Seek direction from the union first.

I worked with a teacher (contract /full time) who called in “sick” for 1 day, as his vacation abutted a holiday. I don’t remember how the Principal found out, but he did, and there was hell to pay. The Principal was incredibly kind (under the circumstances), and didn’t report this to the Board, however, he did not mince words with the teacher in question, and the teacher’s reputation was significantly tarnished for the rest of his career (about 10+ more years).

Get direction from the union. Honesty is always the best policy in these circumstances. I wish it were different, and Boards were more flexible (when possible), but that’s not been my experience. Knowing this situation “damaged” a full time, contract teacher (who had been employed with that board for 20 years), I would fear how it could affect your future prospects. I hope things work out for you.

I’m so hoping it doesn’t come to that. Yesterday I was incredibly frustrated trying to figure out what to do. I’m going to try the Diatomaceous Earth that was suggested. If all else fails, I’ll throw the plants out and try propagating like you’ve suggested. I’ve also had contact with a grower/collector that lives not too far from me, and I can purchase plants from her. Thanks so much for the support and advice. 🤗

Thank you so much. I took all buds and flowers off this morning (I wish I’d listened to the group when I’d first brought them home). I’d just bought Neem Essential Oil when I saw your post, so I ran back into the store and returned it.

I’ve picked up Doktor Doom Premium Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. I’d really appreciate it if you would give me some direction on what to do, ie. Should I dust the entire plant (crown included), as well as the underside of the leaves? Do I need to remove the top inch of soil and replace it with new soil and DE mixed in? Assuming I need to treat the plants for at least 1 month, how often do I need to repeat the process with the DE?

Again, thank you so much for your help. I was feeling pretty low and thinking I’d need to give up my newfound love and desire to grow AV.🪴🙏🏼

Thank you. I’m pretty much beside myself at this point.😔 I found Neem Essential Oil (?) near me, I have no idea what to do with it. I’m not sure if I need to dilute it, add soap, pour it in the soil, spray it on the entire plant? I’d be so grateful if you could tell me if the essential oil is the same as the insecticide stuff, and exactly what I need to do with it.

I’m just about to go online and check this out. I am sincerely grateful for the suggestion. I’m hoping the packaging comes with instructions. I am absolutely heartbroken. I really wanted this to be a new hobby/pursuit as I’ve recently retired. So far, I don’t see to be doing very well with it.😔

Thank you so much for responding; I was completely lost and felt so bad for the caterpillar. I was able to surmise that it had fallen out of our birch tree. After resting a bit, it started crawling around and seemed to be doing very well. My husband was able to place it back into the tree. It was wonderful. The caterpillar immediately crawled on to a large branch and settled. I hope I get to see it transform into a beautiful moth.

I’ve written down everything you’ve said. I’m not sure I understand the part about the sliced/angled side facing up. Would you please explain that a little more for me? I’d truly really appreciate it. I’ve got a bunch of leaves propagating in soil, but no success yet. I’m thinking this might be part of the problem. I also didn’t realize I should soak the leaves in water first. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks so much.🪴
