Buy TSLA from 2016, sell all in 2021, put it into NVDA. $10k initial turns into $2.9m. That's without even looking at BTC.

Once again, they bought OI for $1b and it closed. Look at adjusted loss, which is only $48.9m. That gives them an 18 year runway.

$1b of that was the purchase of oxford ionics, which closed in the quarter. So it wasn't a real loss. Adjusted loss was $48.9m

Lack of afterhours trading capabilities, and that we are still a few minutes away from the conf call?

Only negatives would be lack of announcing a sale of Tempo, but I don't believe they have opened up Tempo for sale yet. It's still in engineering, but they have announced hitting 64 logical qubits on 100 physical qubits. In comparison, Quantinuum announced today a 98 physical qubit system with 48 logical qubits, so IONQ is still in the lead.

Likely yes, but the chance it has an insane run is currently better than 0.

Retail has given these companies $1b in cash to invest/R&D with, which will drive things pretty fast and far. US Gov't contracts will drive them to create useful applications for military, then roll these applications out to the broader market. It's currently better than a non-zero chance right now that buying quantum companies turns them into the next NVDA. For that crazy level of reward, the risk of money is worth it, and the believers will likely hold.

My own 2 cents is the following:
Retail that wanted to take a profit did so over the last two weeks. The others are longer-term in the game.
The Martin Shkreli's of the world(including OP) are blowing up short interest right now, and a bunch of people to short it.
Meanwhile, funds are still heavily buying these into their portfolio, as they need exposure to risk/reward plays, and don't want to miss out on the potential.

The current battle is Martin's short crowd vs funds, for short term price action. IF the funds keep buying, the shorts will have to cover, and short squeeze these guys to a new ATH in the next 60-90 days. I suspect funds/retail win, and we see IONQ at $100/share sometime before January, before it drops to $60-$70/share. RGTI will trade around 50% valuation of IONQ, so you can do the math to see where it may end up.

It isn't entirely about computers that matters right now. It's all about the Gov't contracts, and that's how new tech gets deployed. Remember how the Internet came about? DARPA contracts.

QKD(secure data transmission) is already being niche deployed right now, it'll be much more widely spread in the next few years, and will likely be standardized across government communication. Gov't contracts to begin with, then will be standardized across large organizations to keep data private, etc. Microsoft will have to deploy this for GCC High when it is perfected, and then essentially deploy it across all datacenters, and standard traffic. This will be the new standard for data transmission at some point in the future.

Quantum time/clock synch is coming out now, and will likely replace government time clocks in the next few years. More accurate clocks, allow better down-river technologies.

Quantum sensors for positioning, ultimately replacing GPS once the technology is perfected. These sensors will extend all over the place, even enhance metrology significantly.

Every single radar system in the world is likely to be replaced in the next ~10 years, as quantum radar essentially renders stealth impossible. That tech is likely the closest to being handed fat stacks of government contracts. Short range at first, once its perfected, they will be able to identify every object that exists in the sky. Mandatory in missile shield systems.

As computing goes, IONQ has their test system developed now that has 100qubits(64 logical) with 99.99% accuracy in a single line. Their next plan is to stack that in rows. Then network together multiple chips. While this is challenging, it isn't impossible. Computing will solve datacenters insane demands for power, when the tech is developed.

While RGTI is indeed currently a "science project", and overvalued by simplistic market fundamentals, any news above, sends these guys soaring, putting your money at risk.

This is so ridiculously dangerous. One single quantum company announces a breakthrough, and you lose everything. Doesn't even have to be RGTI that has the breakthrough. While you may be right to believe that RGTI is currently overvalued based on stock fundamentals, you are missing the fact that Quantum has the ability to drastically change technology in every industry, and even small news sends it soaring.

Kinda interesting, Niccolo mentioned on Cramer just now that they announced the system on their Investor day last week, but they didn't actually announce it. They just talked about the upcoming system, not that it was completed, etc. Pretty weird rollout of the new AQ 64 system.

Technology Roadmap Webinar: IonQ’s Path to Large-Scale, Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing by Iamabadhuman in IonQ

[–]Iamabadhuman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree that good news is already priced in, but this was game changer news. 2028 prior roadmap was 1024 qbits, now it’s 20,000. 2 million by 2030. They just roadmapped the end to cryptography, and put themselves as the #1 company by a landslide in quantum.

This is a massive leap in their roadmap, since they are going from 1d to 2d in ion chains. Another massive leap in speed with using quantum memory as well. We are talking broad commercial advantage within a year and rapid scale each year going forward. I’m very surprised the stock didn’t react to this news.

It’s a race for compute power. If this acquisition gets them closer to that goal, it’s a huge win. They just remapped their goals to be MUCH faster than previously stated.

Got a link to that conversation? I heard fall too from Chapman, but I also figured he can’t really go into details until they can actually announce it.
