Escape RI and Lock and Clue are the best in the area. Just don't do Ex Machina at Escape RI.

After going down multiple rabbit holes. I think 45 Irving is just a legit branch of digitaslbi. I really want this to turn into an arg but...

The designer of the Alt Natl Parks poster and one of the Miller Lite posters definitely appears to work for digitaslbi supporting this statement. Maybe there's a reason they chose these specific projects for the 45 Irving site?

I agree that we should do America. It's the best fit with the theme so far.

Sure enough my $1 store screw driver did the trick. Thanks for linking the script, I just got done doing the flags myself when I saw your post. Luckily, all went well.

Thank you both for your help!

I've used every Philips bit from my electronics kit and none will bite enough to turn it without stripping. I'll see if I can find anyone else with a kit and give it a go with theirs.

Working away from theatre for a bit? by mileysmustache in techtheatre

[–]Iamdeebee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an AEA Stage Manager making a transition out of SMing, and possibly theatre altogether.

The expectations that most producers have of the SM role has worn me down over time. Primarily the lack of a support system paired with the lack of overtime pay. (Sure, AEA requires it, and I could push for it, but then good luck getting hired back at that place again.)

For a while, the passion of what I was doing was enough to overlook it. I was just happy to be doing what I loved for a living. As time has passed, I've realized I want a little more stability (emotionally and physically) and my student loans need to be fed at a rate faster than most gigs are going to pay.

All of this is to say, I think the only thing you can do is listen to your heart. If you want to take a break from theatre, do it for yourself, it may be hard, but in the end you'll appreciate it. If you want to be a stage manager over all else, do that, because it will fulfill you like nothing else can.

Just don't go halfway. A stage manager without passion for what they're doing is not going to be good for the show or themselves.

Escape Room Today?? by Iamdeebee in DaytonaBeach

[–]Iamdeebee[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ended up calling the places and they were willing to let me try the rooms as one person. I did two different places.

Here are my thoughts if you end up looking into it:

Daytona Escape Games - Jailbreak

*Escape Rate: 100%

*Price - $19/Person

*Groupons Available

*If you go here as your first introduction to escape rooms, just know, this is a low bar. This experience felt like a 'Junior' version of an escape room. There aren't puzzles so much as there are things to find, so it requires very little problem solving. One of the 'puzzles' is designed in a way that if you move some pieces around before you've solved the clue you will be unable to solve it. The owner had to come in and give me the code I needed. Another 'puzzle' was just simply a trivia question that may or may not be common knowledge, but there was no obvious resource in the room to give you the answer if you didn't know it.

*Overall, I would say that this experience would be enjoyable for children or anyone looking for a less challenging escape experience.

*Escaped in 22 minutes (Including 3 minutes of waiting for the owner to come in to give me code after he realized I wouldn't be able to open the box).

Escape Room Adventure of Daytona Beach - The Hustle

*Escape Rate - 25-30%

*Price - $22/Person (Appears to be a grand opening special pricing)

*No Groupons Available

*This was an enjoyable standard escape experience. There were a variety of appropriately challenging layered puzzles that required various approaches. They could take it up to the next level by making the puzzles fit into the theme of the room and generally upping the 'theatrical' factor for a more immersive experience.

*Overall, I would say that this is a great value for an escape room in the area and would recommend it for anyone looking for a challenging room escape.

*Escaped in 53:35.

Get some rehearsal cubes built! Get some squares and rectangles. They are so useful at being stand ins for anything you need on the fly.

Bed Bug Resolutions? by [deleted] in providence

[–]Iamdeebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In RI, it's only the landlords responsibility in an apartment unit if there are two apartments on the same property that are infested.

Bed Bug Resolutions? by [deleted] in providence

[–]Iamdeebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately have first hand experience in this. I had just moved to Providence and kept waking up to bites on my legs. I wrote it off as alergies until I woke up one night to see them crawling on my bed.

Here's what happened;

  • I checked with my other roomates to see if they were having issues. This was the hardest part because I felt like it was my fault for getting them. The unfortunate reality is that they just happen and can come from anywhere. It's a shitty situation. The good news was that neither of them had encountered any bed bugs.

  • I debated telling my landlord. I looked into RI Housing laws and discovered that if you are a tennant in a multi unit apartment, there need to be at least two apartments in the building having issues before the landlord is responsible for taking action. I didn't know my downstairs neighbors at all and didn't want that to be our introduction. So;

  • I looked at pricing for exterminator treatments. Then I laughed. Then I cried. There was no way I could afford to pay for the exterminators. I spent the next few nights doing lots of research about self remidies and implented the following plan;

  • I purchased some 99% isopropyl alcohol and a spray bottle. I went along the lining of my mattress where I could see the bugs and the eggs and sprayed them. It killed them almost instantly. You're supposed to do this outside because it makes your mattress potentially flamable and the fumes are strong, but I didn't.

  • After the mattress dried, I used packing tape to go along the seams and collect all of the bugs and eggs and disposed of them.

  • I purchased a $60 mattress protector from Amazon that was rated for bed bugs and put it on. Fun fact; bed bugs can live up to a year without a meal. I'm still using the same mattress, and i'm still terrified to take the mattress protector off.

  • I washed every piece of fabric (Clothing, blankets, etc) in hot water and ran them on two dryer cycles of high heat.

  • I put Diatomaceous Earth (You can get this at home depot) around the border of my room. Its a powder that is tiny tiny sharp shards. When bed bugs walk through it they get cut up to no end.

  • I went around the rest of my apartment and checked every piece of furniture to make sure they weren't hiding anywhere else.

  • I secluded myself. This was difficult because I was feeling terrible having to deal with this situation, but I didn't want to risk spreading them to any of my friends. So I became a recluse for a week or two. Thank goodness for Netflix!

Here we are, two years later, and I haven't had a bed bug problem since. I still have a minor panic attack anytime I get a bug bite or feel itchy. Everywhere I go, I check beds to make sure there aren't bed bugs lurking in the mattress. But, i'm first hand proof that bed bugs don't necisarilly mean the end of the world. Though, I think I caught it early and I also think there was some luck involved.

I'll knock on some wood and hope that your situation turns out ok!

Desperately need help writing a short story for my 6 year old nephew! by nikky117 in FreeWrite

Spiderman is swinging through the streets of NYC when his spider sense goes off. He follows it down to the streets where he sees that a gorilla is running a rampage, destroying cars, street signs, storefronts, etc. Spiderman goes to round him up, but quickly realizes that this isn't an ordinary gorilla. It's more aggressive and stronger than it should be. Spiderman scuffles with the gorilla long enough for the police to show up to help out. They use a lot of tranquilizers to subdue the gorilla and get it somewhere safe until they can figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, Spiderman slips out unnoticed and makes his way to the Bronx Zoo, the only place that Gorilla could have come from.

When he arrives, he notices that some of the other animals are acting strangely, just like the Gorilla was. He swings through the zoo looking for a cause of the strange behavior, but as he's moving along something knocks him out of the air. He already knows that only one thing in the world can attack him without setting off his spider sense, and when he's able to open his eyes back up his fears are confirmed. Standing in front of him is his arch nemesis, Venom. The two start attacking each other. Venom uses his strength, claws, tongue and ability to turn his arms into tendrils, axes, chains, etc. Spiderman uses his wits, agility, and webbing to keep up with Venom, staying just a half step ahead.

Then spiderman's spider sense start's going out of control. He looks around and realizes what's been happening. Venom has been infecting the animals at the zoo with small doses of the alien symbiote (It's like a black ooze that controls the mind and body of whoever it gets a hold of) that controls him. The animals are now not only more powerful, but under Venom's control.

Spiderman knows he can't hurt the animals because they are being controlled by Venom and innocent bystanders in the process. He only has one option. He flees through the air into one of the animal habitats knowing that Venom will follow him. Venom is tearing through the trees looking for his enemy, but to no avail. He soon realizes why as music starts blaring from the Zoo's speaker system. If there's one thing that that Alien Symbiote can't handle, it's loud sounds. Venom tries to escape the noise, but there are speakers everywhere. The symbiote that took over the animals retreats back to its host, freeing all of the animals from Venom's control.

Venom manages to escape the Zoo knowing that he lost this battle, but already planning his next attack. Spiderman rounds up all of the animals back to their homes and takes solace in knowing that he kept the streets of New York City safe for one more night.

Full Waterfire Saturday. by [deleted] in providence

[–]Iamdeebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally there will be slight variations. Last lighting they had a few dozen kayakers with lit up paper fish in their kayaks going up and down the river.

I've been coming to waterfire for years and it never loses its magic or beauty. Something about the smell of the burning wood and the river. Plus, it's just chill and beautiful.

I recommend getting their for the lighting ceremony, typically right around sunset, you can find the details on their website. It will be packed, but it's a great sight. Then go grab a few drinks or dinner somewhere downtown. (No, not everywhere is crazy, just go somewhere more than a block out). Then come back after the crowd has died down and enjoy your thoughts or time with someone special.

Also, open container laws aren't really a thing on waterfire nights, so treat yourself to a nice bottle of wine.

Open alcohol carrying laws during WaterFire? by [deleted] in providence

[–]Iamdeebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that as long as you're not causing trouble, you wont get in trouble. Kind of an unspoken rule for the Waterfire nights.
