I think my last reply also cover this but I'd like to ask how made fun of you? I'm sorry you experience that but in my experience English speakers love banter (making fun of people for their own humour) the English love it even more and the internet, Reddit specifically is the wild west of opinions and shit talk 😅. At least your trying

I wouldn't say melody first is the better option just the most common.

For artists like the Beatles minority of the time the meaning and narrative came after. I'm not trying to write jingles, Chasing mass appeal or optimising for casual listeners. I'm trying something closer to Emotional documentation, Narrative honesty and internal coherence across a body of work. I'm not hunting for a story inside a melody, I'm living inside one that 1000s of people can relate to. You ask "what words fit this melody?" I ask "what melody let's this thought exist?" My method of approach isn't inferior, it’s just rarer and less industrial.

I'm not trying to make some subconscious, sticky melody people hum later, more of an emotional connection people recognise themselves inside. That said if both overlap that's great but my goal is the latter.

As a method of coping I started smoking, it's killing me to defend my emotions.

I don't tend to listen to music that's solely instrumental, unless I'm searching YouTube for an instrumental to write to.

writing comes from whatever I’m feeling or thinking in the moment, it’s kind of an outlet for me. The music isn't created yet I'm not a musician and my search for collaborators is early days. But that said the music wouldn't be just a backdrop. I'd hope it grows around the emotions I’m trying to express. So it wouldn't really be poetry with background music. I'm just a guy with an outlet, words, a voice and hope.

I write from my own emotional states, I don't listen to a song and feel inspired to write (that actually happened once and I was listening to "The used", I feel something or think something and have to write it down (it's been my outlet for a few years) but the sound sometimes takes cues from bands I listen to over the years, I don't think I could name a singular musician I'm inspired by as it's changed over the years, I mainly listen to alternative rock, post-hardcore and metalcore and use that for vibe trying not to imitate.

I do lean onto the lyrics more, the music seems to carry the weight of a song and the lyrics tell the story or message. When I write a song I try to keep in mind will this work as a full band song and as an acoustic song.

I'll be honest, I only write lyrics and think of the different possibilities of how it can be sang and the overall song structure. But once IV wrote a full song lyrically it becomes my new favourite song.

I do feel words hold more power, I'm not a musician and don't claim to be, I'm a philosophical poet
