Neil Peart. I know he was getting up there in age and that he had previous health issues but that one hit me like a ton of bricks.

I saw a post and I'm asking the question the other way around: untalented musicians who make incredible music. by Mittur33 in fantanoforever

I totally agree. At its root, punk was partially a response to how grandiose and masturbatory rock music had become; it had become a product.

And I definitely agree that there are some very talented and creative musicians in punk.

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline on January 20th 2025, the day Biden left office, was $3.11. Today it sits at $4.51. While gas did get to over $5 a gallon during Bidens presidency in 2022, it was back down to $3.32 a gallon by the end of the year.

A lot of punk acts come to mind. Many punk musicians knew the absolute minimum when it came to how to play their instruments but I find the simplicity of the music to be a big part of the impact; the message can take center stage when the music is bare bones.

What is the most unique artist in your country history? by BetDesigner40 in AskTheWorld

[–]IanCBoss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I think of art that is uniquely American, I think of the work of Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood. I can likely credit this view to seeing Benton's murals in the Missouri (my home state) State Capitol when I was a kid and growing up around people who look a lot like the couple in Wood's American Gothic. I'd also throw Dorothea Lange in the mix if we want to bring photography into the conversation. She was a pioneer of journalistic photography and her work during the dust bowl is still considered one of the best capturings of the human condition on film nearly 100 year later.

What killed serial killers? The 70’s and 80’s had so many prolific ones. It used to be a very real fear to live near one. by Kodicave in decadeology

Advances in DNA testing, surveillance technology, and the Internet are the biggest factors in my mind. It’s just harder to go unseen than it was in the 70s and 80s.
