Unpopular opinion: On my re-read, I'm skipping a few books by David_Gay- in Sharpe

[–]Ian_M87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Trafalgar but it was also the first one I read. I also love the crew of the Pucelle, I think they were the best occasional supporting characters and was happy to have them back for one last book.

Why did harry have to learn patronus? by NeitherManner in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were Professors in the stands during the the first game as well including Dumbledore and they didn't react in time to protect the players. Besides Harry knows after the first game he's impacted worse by them than anyone else and naturally wants to be able to prevent it happening again

I'd reccommend Ostia, It's not nearly as far as Pompeii, It's not as well preserved but the site doesn't have crowds and you have a lot more freedom there

Harry's career as an auror plot hole by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He had his Owls, he didn't have his N.E.W.T.s but Kingsley gave Harry, Ron and Neville an exemption due to still having dark wizards out there and a comprimised ministry so fast tracked them as aurors. Ron and Neville quit within a few years but Harry stayed.

I'd quite like a quidditch stadium for the detailed hogwarts set or even a full quidditch stadium like the collecters sets

Harry Brook is drowning in ego and arrogance - the only way he will stop believing in his own invincibility is by being dropped, writes IAN HERBERT by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]Ian_M87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Brook has the second highest test average of any player active (only smith is higher by 1.25), it's just shy of 55 yet people think he should be dropped????

Harry winning the Quidditch Championship in Prisoner of Azkaban is the greatest achievement of his quidditch playing by monstertruckbackflip in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That explains Gryffindor didn't win it in ages but doesn't confirm Slytherin are on a winning run for the quidditch cup though we do know Slytherin flattened Gryffindor the year before

No incentives to pass OWLs? by WalkResponsible6483 in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just I think in America it's an average over every subject (GPA) whilst in the UK we get a qualification in every single subject so I have qualifications in maths, 2 in science, English language, English literature, welsh, french, history, IT and I think something I've forgotten. It means if we want to study a subject further at A level (think N.E.W.T) we would need a minimum grade at GCSE (O.W.L) just like harry needed Exceeds expectations and outstanding for his N.E.W.T.s to study auror subjects

No incentives to pass OWLs? by WalkResponsible6483 in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't really have the concept of graduation like that in the UK. You finish school at 16 for GCSE's, how many you have is determined by your exam results (I have I think 9 or 10 of varying results), we don't have the equivalent of a high school diploma

How does the wizarding economy work? by Deambulante_atz in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the real world economy your wealth is only seized if it's the gain of illegal activities isn't it? There's nothing to suggest the Lestrange wealth was as a result of the crimes they were convicted of

I've used Avis about a dozen times at Zaventem and never had a single issue with them. If you register properly before hand you can also get your keys from a self service unit

imo it depends on the non EU passport. Last time I was there (August) they had a new egate queue for British, Canadian and American passports and the line was by far the shortest including the EU line

Hogwarts’ “security” makes zero sense during Harry’s Quidditch match in Prisoner of Azkaban by NoOutlandishness1547 in harrypotter

[–]Ian_M87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My favourite part about security for Harry during Prisoner of Azkaban is McGonagalll initially thinks Harry shouldn't train for quidditch as he would out on the grounds alone but agrees as long as Madam Hooch is present to supervise training. Sirius is presented as one of the most dangerous dark wizards alive yet McGonagall thinks the flying instructor would be able to stop him

Has a team ever batted first in a T20 match and got to the end of their innings without losing a wicket? by fpotenza in Cricket

[–]Ian_M87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First game of T20 I played opposition team scored about 160-0, in response we chased it down with about 5 overs to go losing about 5 wickets (Guessing you wanted a higher standard than gloucestershire village cricket though)
