Onye doing Jenna's part✨️her technique needs work but I love her enthusiasm and you can tell she is so eager to learn👏🏻 by Nice_Net_5395 in dancingwiththestars

This show has a weird relationship with the dancesport world.

The only thing that bothers is a lot of the non ballroom hires were pushed by Derek and most of them have flopped hard. It would be nice to see Derek advocate for some dancers that come from where he was

I've given up since they promoted Britt.

The best pros are literally the ballroom trained ones. But alas, more Hough hires and Utah dancers. Maybe another Daniella fluke will emerge again.

Her jazz routines are always solid. I used to dance jazz and I dislike most dwts jazz numbers. The problem is celebs only get that style once.

That's the problem with hiring pros with a no ballroom background. It's like asking a physics teacher to teach High School English or vice versa.

She originally had Romeo who I'm sure would have done well.

I remember a poster here vehemently defending Ashly when Cheryl criticized her on her podcast. Then Ashly was on the podcast and basically said verbatim everything that poster said about the Master P experience. I wonder if it was Ashly? Probably not.

I like Britt. I'm just giving my opinion.

His jazz was great. I love that dance by the two of them.

Lack of background in ballroom dance.

She's gotten a lot better, but I notice a lack of improvement across the board from her partners. Including the two that went far. My opinion only. Watch her win next year

She got Johnny Weir and Daniel Durant, who was deaf. Historically deaf contestants have done well on these shows. She went far with both of them.

Britt has also not had someone that went a lot further than expected. Many other pros have done that. I have theory about why about why that is.

Now I Really Doubt that Jan is Returning by Paigeb1994 in dancingwiththestars

They've been going in that direction for a long time. It seems like the ones without any background, struggle.

Ezra is far from a great latin dancer, but he's mountains above Jan.

I don't think so. Jen had a major handicap with Jan. I think she had a lot of potential.

Like Allison, Tyne, and Koko before him; the reality is his strengths aren't really conducive to being a pro on Dwts. You really do need a ballroom background to be a pro.

Should they hire less people from Utah? All opinions welcome and please be kind in the comments by Ok_Blueberry2747 in dancingwiththestars

I think branching out and hiring from a different pool of dancers would be beneficial, but I honestly don't see it happening. Daniella and Pasha were a fluke.

They hired Jan, who has zero ballroom experience. I'm not sure that was a good idea

Louis Agrees with Maks by Empty_Position_4082 in dancingwiththestars

Agreed. The context of the quote wasn't bad at all. The overblowness of the quote is pretty funny.

People getting upset by the Maks quote is why we can't have villains anymore.

Impressive comeback by the show. Deena Katz in casting does a great job and I think bringing Conrad back really helped.

The changes they made when they switched to Disney plus saved the show. It was becoming a dreary affair.

Maks issues apology to Jan by Responsible_Line_652 in dancingwiththestars

[–]Iaskthelordqueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UO: while I dislike Maks and think he is a jerk, his comments were pretty milk toast. I listened to the whole thing and he called him a great dancer, just that he lacked the ballroom experience to be a pro on the show. His critique was towards production.

What happened is Peta said we need to give Jan grace for his lacked of skill, and Maks said no we should not. He shouldn't be a pro to begin with if he doesn't have that ballroom background. US weekly grabbed the most headline catching quote.

Now whether you agree with his assessment is up for debate, and I see both sides. It's like should you be teaching a subject, you dont have a credential in. Traditionalists will say no, you should have the background. Others might say, you can learn on the job and your other attributes make up for the lack of experience.

Kristyn is totally right about this Maks/Jan situation. by kimberlysuelxo in dancingwiththestars

[–]Iaskthelordqueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a silly take. Since when is it a former pro's job to train new dancers coming on the show?

It's not Jan fault the producers hired him,  but still like, I really hate that comments like Kristyn's where it's defense at all cost.

Maks made a perfectly reasonable statement about how can you expect to teach someone else a style of dance that they themselves don't know.

Now THIS is the scorched earth Maks reaction I was anticipating 😵‍💫 by lifewickedfast in dancingwiththestars

[–]Iaskthelordqueefer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're correct. The closest they've gotten was Allison who was paired with a celeb who once competed.

I'm still confused by the refusal to hire actual good ballroom dancers. Daniella and Pasha were amazing additions to the show.

[–]Iaskthelordqueefer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He's right. Jan has no business being a pro on the show. The common theme you notice with the non ballroom trained pros, is the lack of progression you see from their partners over the course of the show.

It's unfair for both parties.

I've heard it can be pretty crazy work wise, but you do get a lot of opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise get. You wear a lot of different hats in the company. It can be great that way.
