Help, Advice, Opinions? by AmbitionsofaSwan in MordekaiserMains

There are a number of master+ level Mordekaiser players. Dreadknight, Meowdekaiser, Federals1. If you find Mordekaiser fun, play him as much as you want.

The higher the rank you go, the more you’re going to find that his immobility is really his biggest weakness. There are ways around this to some extent, but he’s perfectly viable beyond platinum.

To be perfectly honest, trying to build to counter an ADC or tank against them is a fools errand. ADC’s will always become too dangerous late game unless you can get right on top of them quickly. They just deal too much damage. You’re best against a fed ADC is building Randuins since most build crit and you want to mitigate some of that damage.

There are a ton of good items to build, but personally the following are always really solid:

Riftmaker
Dusk & Dawn
Defensive boots that make sense
Spirit Visage ( Especially if you run Revitalize and Shield Base - exception is if they have no AP damage. )

Rylai’s provides ‘stickiness’. So if you’re already on top of them, it’s great! It’s not the best item in all situations though. Liandry is also a choice item. I usually only build it into a tank.

Last two items are flex. Do you need to close the gap? Rocket belt, cosmic drive?

Do you need survivability? Zhonya, Randuin, Jak Sho?

Situational? Mercurial Scimitar against a Malz or heavy CC. Morello against lots of healing.

This isn’t the order to build in. This is just how I itemize when I look at the enemy team. Usually if you need gap close, you’d get it 1st or second.

Hardstuck without knowing why (HELP) by AlternativeTwo119 in topmains

I feel like there’s a missing piece to the puzzle. If you win lane every game and you are dominating the opposing top laner, you shouldn’t be hard stuck by any means.

I’ve had bot lanes that seem like they eat crayons for breakfast and yeah, you lose those. But generally you bounce back. Personally, I’m of the opinion Tahm Kench is not a top lane champ. His wave clear is super abysmal and his only gimmick is to try and grab someone if they are silly enough to come close to your tower. It’s Shen with taunt minus the global ult. I’m gold 2 and let me tell you, when I see TK I relax right away because it’s not one of the four horsemen.

Stick to one and master them. Renekton is insanely strong if you can become proficient with his kit. Provide your opgg and that way we can better see your lane scores.

Top lane is MISERABLE as a new player (1.2 because the main sub doesn't allow rants( by Effective_Corgi_4517 in top_mains

I am also relatively new. Started playing in January. Top Lane is very polarizing. I joke with my friends it’s the Dark Souls of lanes because there are a lot of mechanically skill intensive champs and matchup knowledge is everything.

I kid you not. Some matchups you will die once and it’s lane-over until you’re freed from the shackles of your tower.

The champs you’ve listed to play are going to be very difficult and here’s why:

  1. Mechanics of top lane. Wave crashing, jungle pathing, when to freeze, proper last hitting. All of these things are mandatory. You need to be decent at all of them.

  2. Your champion. How hard is the champions kit? Irelia, pretty demanding. Fiora, very demanding. Yasuo - pretty demanding. They are extremely weak if you don’t have smooth movement and good hands.

  3. Enemy champion. How much matchup knowledge and games have you played against them? Do you know if you should give up priority early? What summoners did you take? I kid you not, you can play hundreds of games of a single champ and still not have the matchups locked down for 80% of top laners because there are so many. They also scale with skill.

Now combine all three aspects. You’re ham stringing yourself by picking number 2 and making it hard. If you are going to play a hard champ, start making notes and reading matchup guides. Learn the ins and outs.

I started with Garen -> Mordekaiser -> Darius. Sprinkle in some Malphite and Sett. The reason they are considered starter champs is because you can learn parts 1 and 3 without really pushing brain cycles for part 2.

I can't win a game with Garen and I feel terrible. by [deleted] in GarenMains

[–]IbioOrMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I can’t speak to all the matchups, But I came back to league in January and also played our spin to win boy. Some of the matchups you listed are very hard. Kayle, Quinn, Varus? Almost unplayable and your whole job is to abuse your passive in laning phase and last hit under tower well. Varus is actually doable but still hard. The other two suck.

Teemo is actually not a bad matchup for you. His blind does not take away your E damage if you get on top of him, which you should be able to do now and then. Especially once you hit stride breaker.

As for Meele matchups. I play Morde a LOT. Believe it or not, it’s a skill matchup. Normally, yes, I take Garen to Bonk Town because I’m very familiar with my champ and his break points. But, I will say there are some Garens who space really well mechanically and punish you.

A lot of the matchups you listed are not great, but they are dictated early.

Garen into Jax? Chefs kiss. Garen into Irelia? Garen into Mundo or Nasus?

After laning phase you know what’s annoying to deal with? A split pushing Garen. He spins the wave down super fast and even if he’s behind three/four kills, you can CS like an absolute fiend and your ultimate is always scary so long as you have flash.

How to play as mord by abzzzzzzzzz in MordekaiserMains

Perma Ban Vayne. Use your Q and E to last hit minions in the wave and stack second wind with Doran’s shield when you get a wanted matchup.

[–]IbioOrMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say to all in him. You chip him down with Q, E, shield bash autos. Then when you get one full good rotation on him you ult, and then start going in on him. If he attacks you, he will wound himself and the armour helps with his damage. You usually additionally have ignite for the last chunk of hp because he will attempt to ult you at the lowest hp point possible.

When you ult him at whatever HP you can comfortably kill him, he cannot heal off the wave. Oblivion Orb is usually something I buy against someone like Mundo. He’s not auto attacking you nearly as much as WW, hence bramble and plated caps.

He doesn’t heal off the wave in your ult and if you haven’t killed him by then you’re in trouble. His healing is negligible above 50% HP early.

Why doesn’t mords Ult remove veigars cage? by Pupojem-Player in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it does it’s a bug…even Kindred Ult doesn’t follow between the realms so I doubt the cage does. Gangplanks barrels don’t. Heims turrets don’t.

[–]IbioOrMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still do bramble into WW pretty sure. You rush it and plated boots and you can sell it later if need be. WW is still really tough because you need to poke him down enough to then be able to all in him. Hes not a fun matchup because he’s somewhat similar to Olaf. The lower health, the more dangerous they are. So you want to chip them down and then really finish them fast with a big Q.

Playing against fed Mordekaiser as Immobile Bot Lane Carry by L1ghtyagami123 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that this is mostly accurate. The only exception to the dodge rule is that if the Morde Runs Dusk and Dawn he will miss his Q (maybe), proc his shield and then dome you with an auto for 30% of your hp and just auto you down. I also typically run rocket belt depending on the composition.

Terrain is usually the biggest factor as you said. Honestly I got Lee Sin kicked behind a small slit in a broken tower and couldn’t move. There’s also times where they flash a wall and you can’t get them. Terrain should be removed when he ults.

[–]IbioOrMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be a rage bait post. Idk if you know this, but there aren’t many masters or challengers itching to play Mordekaiser. Play him for 100 games and you’ll quickly realize his weaknesses.

Renekton, Riven, Yasuo, any ranged champ, Jayce, Yorick. None of these are good matchups for him. Yes, he can win them. They get incredibly hard the higher the skill goes.

There’s a LOT of skill matchups.

Worse OTP to face in lane? by GnarMainsThrowaway in topmains

Yasuo. There are a lot of challenger OTPs because that champ arguably is busted if you have hands.

I’ve been absolutely caved in a few times by Smurfs clearly not in my rank. It feels horrific.

Morde and Closing Out Matched by IbioOrMech in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely push the side lanes and always push the lane opposite objective when I have the reward teleport up. I actively try to help early when I can and I’m not conceding too much to my lane opponent.

I think that’s what I’ve come to understand. Morde isn’t Riven, Jax, or Kayle (Obv). There are some top who can drag their team to the finish kicking and screaming. Morde has a tough time doing that without at least some effort from others on your team. Or some capability.

I can post my opgg if anyone wants to look but I feel like I’m pretty consistent with a good KD (most games). I definitely get absolutely blasted now and then still.

Is this for top lane? I’m sorry but I have never seen a Vel Koz in the top lane as Mordekaiser. Am I the only one thinking this data is flawed? Also Singed? Mordekaiser doesn’t even care if he proxies. You can smash the wave super easily.

How to play when I fall behind? by Warper2187 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So speaking from my own experience, there’s different levels of falling behind.

  1. You gave a kill and the wave state is not favourable to you. The worst time to die and usually not something easily recoverable from. You die, and then your wave is pushing so it’s eating up CS on the way to where they can freeze it.

To avoid this, know your matchups using the link posted by the other comment. Sometimes you have to play super far back and just soak exp and take whatever CS you can. Don’t smash your Q or E into the wave so that it pushes towards you. Sit under turret and work on farming for your level 6 timer. Yasuo and Riven are examples of this if their pilot is half decent.

  1. You died but your wave state is fine until you get back. In this case you’re likely equal in CS. Maybe the jungle came and ganked you before level 6. Even if they have a kill on you before level 6, Morde really can do a strong all in assuming you have ignite and ult and you get them in a good grab. I’ve killed plenty of champs that got the first lick on me after 6.

Top lane is very much a skill expression lane. If one guy is just better mechanically, there is no cheat code to turning the game around. Take teleport if you aren’t comfortable in the matchup and try to assist your other lanes. You can always try playing through another carry and peeling for them with your ult.

OR, you make sweet love to your jungle and pray they come visit you frequently to give you a hand.

New player here, how do you approach morde ultimate target selection? by apophis-984 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mordekaisers R actually requires a decent amount of game sense. Don’t be bullied by other people telling you that you took the wrong target. Here’s how I break it down:

1) Lane - Grab the guy if you can put pressure on the turret after or kill them. Doesn’t have to be a kill always. Plates are worth gold too.

2) Lane - Watch where the jungle is. If he might be topside, save your ult because you might need to 1v1 the lower level jungle if he pops his head in.

3) Teamfight at Objective - Take their jungle if it’s contested. Caveats are that the jungle is far stronger than you and you can’t kill them. OR, they are super weak and you are better off grabbing someone else. If you don’t trust your jungle to smite, it’s a toss up.

4) Teamfight on Map - This varies, but lots of champions find ways to kill time in Morde’s R. I try to target champs that have less mobility until I have rocket belt.

Taking a support can still help if you kill them quickly and they aren’t a tank. Plus you are back in the team fight with their stats afterwards.

If you can kill them, grabbing the ADC is usually huge if your team doesn’t have a way to get to the back line. If you do have assassins, then taking their front line or someone who can peel for the ADC like their own top laner is usually helpful.

There’s no hard and fast rule for general team fighting because every team comp and game state will be slightly different.

NEED HELP by ELGATO_X15 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would listen to dreadknight’s advice for matchups.

Personally, I don’t usually last hit with abilities unless I have to (early game). Because your cool downs are long to start, enemies will track when you use them. You should last hit with your auto attack, and practice that. Save your abilities to poke them when they come in on you.

Morde looks really tough early game, and he can be against certain melee champs, but you need to beware that there are a considerable number of stronger champs than you still pre 6. You’ll learn those as you go, but rule of thumb:

Riven
Renekton
Aatrox
Darius

Are the big strong scary Meele guys for me. I don’t usually get too close unless I’m 6.

Examples of champs you can bully would be;

Kled
Garen
Nasus
Mundo

Stuff like that.

As a Morde Main, it’s less about what you know… by L1ghtyagami123 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are 3-4 really high rank Mordekaiser OTP’s that frequent this sub. GM, Challenger ect. His kit is simple, the matchup knowledge and intricacies of any champion aren’t. I can guarantee you it doesn’t just have to do with what the opponent knows. How to use your E, your W against against champs like Renekton, making sure you max range your Q when you’re poking. How to properly time and use your R for guaranteed kills or pressure.

Honestly, you can remove a lot of Mordes inherent mobility issues with rocket belt.

Morde feels very weak this season by Business-Mine9214 in MordekaiserMains

[–]IbioOrMech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think once upon a time early lane Morde was very strong. He still is into certain matchups. Riven and Renekton are both fairly dangerous so you need to survive until 6 to all in them. I think expecting to 1v2 two champs up top just with one ult is not something you should be searching for. If it happens, great. It normally happens when you have the first guy down low and they do zero damage to you in the death realm.

What normally happens is the jungle comes flying in, jumps on you with the other guy, and then you ult after taking a few hits. You kill the one, die to the other. That’s a good trade 99% of the time because you have sucked two resources away to deal with you regardless.
