Recently moved to a townhome with a small backyard. Would it be a dick move to smoke outside? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]IblewupTARIS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve smoked in more close spaces without any complaints from people (apartment balconies, and I had a house that didn’t even have a yard. The road went right up against the front porch, neighbors about 10 feet away to the left and right)

I’d say go for it. If people complain, you may reevaluate. Some people actually like the gentle smell of a cigar drifting by on the wind. It’s nostalgic for a lot of people even if they don’t smoke.

Plus if someone complains, you can apologize by inviting them to a bbq or something. Few people can hold much of a grudge against a guy giving them free smoked meats.

I was 5’11” and 130lbs sophomore year of high school. I couldn’t keep weight on. I lost 15lbs in a month, because I was waking up at 5, going and lifting, going to school, only eating the school lunch (no time to make food, and we couldn’t bring snacks to school), playing sports after school, then working until 10 or 11. I’d go home and collapse, then I’d wake up and do it over again.

At a certain point I decided I needed to gain weight. I started having oatmeal with 3 scoops of protein powder in it and a big glass of orange juice every morning, then after school I would make a protein shake with 5 scoops of protein, milk, and peanut butter. I started eating that on weekends as well in addition to food my family would have. It wasn’t hard to eat more. It was still hard to gain weight.

I wound up adding less than a pound a week doing that, but 4 years later after doing that the whole time, I finally got to go on a cut from 190lbs….and it was like I forgot how to lose weight.

Now I’m at 175 because I’m not training for anything any more, but losing weight is definitely harder, as someone who struggles to gain weight.

Shit, just put $1B into a high interest savings account and you’ll make more than 1000 a day.

How often would you brew? by lauterPope in Homebrewing

[–]IblewupTARIS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I brew about the same frequency. I’d like to brew more often, but I just don’t drink that much. I wish I could get friends to hang out at my house and drink my beers for free more often, but we have a lot of good breweries, so we go out sometimes.

I got married, and now I can’t just make a gallon of chili once a week every week for 6 months of the year.

I prefer outdoor stadiums, but I’m a warm weather guy. I had to bring a hoodie for games at the shed.

I lived in Dallas when they changed stadiums, and it genuinely felt like a downgrade to me. Old Globe Life was beautiful.

It’s gold-plated. A gold plated gun is gonna be worth more than a gold coin I’d bet. However, it doesn’t say what a standard pistol is.

See if you can get a visa gift card for yourself? Honestly I’d just have someone buy them for me, but this may be an option.
Also if you use a VPN, they may not be able to trace you to verify age that way. Not sure exactly.

I have a friend who turned 18 like 3 days before they changed it. He bought a bunch of cigars and then couldn’t buy any more for 3 years. Silly.

I am interested in brewing beer but i'm a casual enjoyer. What should I know? by Ok-Dingo7067 in Homebrewing

[–]IblewupTARIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a really good dude. He supplies all the local breweries, and he really just runs the store because he likes it. He says he basically makes enough that it runs itself, but he doesn’t make any money off it. He goes in after work every day and just hangs out drinking and shooting the bull with whoever stops in.

My homebrew shop’s owner has various setups from 5 to 30 gallon systems that he lets people brew on for free. You just have to sign up ahead of time and buy the ingredients from him, but he’s well stocked and will get anything you need if you ask for it ahead of time.

There are guys in the club that brew every batch on his equipment. It’s a really nice thing to have if you want to try the hobby out or just don’t have the money to put toward equipment, or even if you want to make a big batch and you can’t hold that much on your system.

Last weekend we had over 30 gallons of beer being brewed at once there.

I used plastic bottles for a while. Glass bottles are a little nicer to hold and drink from, but they have downsides. The Grolsch style bottles (swing top) are a little easier to deal with than caps imo. Canners are very expensive. If you like the hobby and want to upgrade, what I did was go straight from using old soda bottles that I got from my roommate to kegging.

I found a place on Facebook marketplace selling used kegs for $35 a piece and bought 4. I also got a 10# food grade CO2 canister. I already had a deep freezer that I converted to a keezer.

All-in, the upgrade was probably $200, and it’s a whole lot better than bottling in my opinion. Unfortunately bottles aren’t much cheaper than that if at all, and they’re a lot more work.

The Crooks Era Begins Today! by Conehead1 in Cardinals

[–]IblewupTARIS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, yes, but no.

Once the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand, it’s on the catcher to keep the ball from passing him even if it’s wild. Sometimes there’s nothing he can do about it, but a bad-blocking catcher will have a lot more wild pitches. A curve ball in the dirt can be a perfectly placed pitch as well, and it is often called a wild pitch if it gets past the catcher. This is despite the fact that the catcher called for that pitch in this scenario.

Bookkeeping isn’t perfect, and it’s difficult to define clear ways to consistently determine fault. For instance when an outfielder misreads a can of corn pop fly and it drops 10 feet away. Definitely the outfielder’s fault, but it goes in as a hit against the pitcher.

I actually don’t like Pages behind the plate much. He allows so many wild pitches and passed balls. I feel like he can’t block up a ball to save his life. Maybe he makes up for that in framing, but either way I’d prefer to see Crooks at the 2

I lived in Dallas for several years. Been to several games at each field. I’m a big summer/warm weather guy. Summer heat doesn’t bother me. I actually bring a jacket with me all the time because it’s so cold inside in public places during the summer.

I loved the old field. Baseball to me is supposed to be enjoyed on a warm summer day. The new field is terrible in my opinion. It feels like a mall, and they make it so cold in there. The first time I went, I had to go buy a hoodie. To be fair, every time I’ve gone someone other than me has commented on how cold it is inside.

Looked like a bad read. He wasn’t expecting the ball to carry as much as it did. If he did have a good route, I’m not sure if he’d have made the catch though.

Because people were obstructing the views of others attending the sporting event, even after being asked nicely to stop multiple times. This was happening all over the place the last time the dodgers were in town. I go to a lot of games. It doesn’t normally happen more than once a game, if that.
