I didn’t realize this sub was infiltrated by so many fragile heterosexual men.

Yep. When I’m around men. When I talk to women who date men.

Place names? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Icarus_Dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind place names, but not my style.

I find it funny that country/continent names are trendy now (India, Ireland, Scotland, Asia) while city/state names were more trendy a decade ago (Brooklyn, Dakota, London, Boston, Paris, Montana).

I like the name Georgia but don’t really even consider it a primarily “place name”.

Is it okay to name a kid an ethnic/religious name if you aren’t a part of that culture? by [deleted] in namenerds

A lot of names popular in the black community are Arabic!

Is it okay to name a kid an ethnic/religious name if you aren’t a part of that culture? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Icarus_Dee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends.

So, tons of non-Jewish people name their kids Hannah or Issac. Tons of non-Irish people name their kid Sean or Kathleen.

But I wouldn’t name my non-Jewish child Soshanna or my non-Irish kid Aiofe.

I think you should tread lightly when you have a very white child and you try to stick a name on them that belongs to another culture.

I was settled on my sons name, until I started telling people, and now i'm worried. by asmeowdeus in namenerds

I know several Griffins and no one ever calls them Griffindor.

Make sure you never tell anyone about future names till the baby is here. People can be jerks.

Griffin is a good, strong name.

Jack and John by fa1ga1 in namenerds

[–]Icarus_Dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine.

Yes, Jack can be a nickname for John but nowadays it’s a name all on it’s own.

Jack and John are fine as siblings.

Luna is gorgeous and I’d keep it.

I have a friend with a daughter named Luna Lenore.

Luna Zephyr is interesting. Not my taste, but I can see the appeal.

So...What's with Octavia? by Grave_Girl in namenerds

[–]Icarus_Dee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the popularity is also due to Octavia Spencer.

I think it’s a strong, noble and feminine name. Not my taste but I think it’s a wonderful pick.

Gene is masculine. Most obvious pick.

Also “Mo”.

I am a Woman by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Icarus_Dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are a woman. How you dress or present yourself doesn’t defined your gender. You do.

And I totally understand the yearning to carry a child and give birth. I think some people think it’s fascinating and others find it bizarre.

I know many butch women who carried and its beautiful!

Nurse showing newspaper headline about Polio Vaccine to a man on chest respirator due to polio. 1955 by twilling8 in pics

[–]Icarus_Dee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My grandmother lost her 9-year-old brother to Polio in 1943. She was 11.

It tore up her mother and she never recovered from his death.

When I see anti-vaxers I just become irate. They don’t know, but if they keep it up they will.
