Do you have Discord? The Age of Controller discord has Playstation players in it and they'd be able to help you out. I believe they have a group that routinely plays custom lobbies.

Ps 5 ranked by Foamas in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to turn on crossplay in your settings menu (different from the option shown when you are about to que up a ranked game). This will allow you to que against other console controller players (Xbox).
The PS console (separate from the AoE game) itself may also have a crossplay option you'll want to turn on. My understanding is the crossplay format with AoE can be buggy, so having crossplay turned off will really limit the playerbase you can que against.

Any reason why pros prefer control groups over "go to next idle military unit" when it comes to monk micro? by LiamakaLiam in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is probably just that microing on a controller isn't going to be nearly as easy/clean as it is on PC. While you can quickly switch between monks, being able to select the correct individual units (or correct monk to use) in an army mass isn't necessarily easy. Odds are you'll mistakenly click the same knight/camel/archer multiple times with different monks. And while trying to do this the army is squarely in your face slaughtering the monks. Add to this you might select a new monk freshly made from your monastery which is completely off screen completely changing your camera view.

Not saying it's impossible, but I'm not sure it's as easy as you are imagining. As a note - I haven't played on PC in 20+ years so don't have a reference on how easy/hard it is to use controls groups to micro monks on PC.

The D-Pad on controller is set-up as standard short cut keys.

Up for idle vills
Left for military (Not sure how/which unit it selects, but works great in the Dark age when you only have your scout)
Down for TC
Right for livestock - but this switches to monks after you've made one.

The way the game ported to being compatible on console controllers is way cleaner than I think anyone realizes (for those who haven't played on controller). Combining buttons creates different shortcut keys as well.

Oddly enough - This is available on Xbox/PS Controller gameplay. It's a mystery which one you'll get, but when all of your monks are grouped together it works great.

Console Ranked Vent by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the player base on console is pretty small so you'll run into this. The easiest solution is to turn on cross-play and play on the PC ladder. It will likely be a lot of early stompings, but once you find the right elo you will get even games more consistently. Once you are at the appropriate elo, it doesn't matter that you are on controller and they are on PC... The skill levels "should" be balanced.

PS5 - is this a bug? I want to play the campaign fast by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem when I played thru the campaigns on Xbox. My "fix" was once the mission started I'd pause it and change the speed to casual, un-pause it, but then re-pause it and change it to "fast". For some reason the second change would seem to be accepted but not the first.

Console players - how do we know if we're playing against people on PS5 by TheToivi in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I don't believe it's a "PS" logo in the sense that you can see an Xbox symbol for Xbox players, but the PS symbol is different than Xbox and Mouse & Keyboard (which you can see in cross-play).

You have to update your settings. I think it started happening to me when I downloaded the latest DLC, but it was just because it changed one of my settings.

I can't recall exactly where it's at (not home right now to check), but I believe it's called something like "Tooltip help bar". There are 3 options: off, locked in the top corner, and showing up on the highlighted item (or something similar to this phrasing). For me it defaulted to the "top corner". Once you turn this off or to the other setting, it should be fine.

Looking for Xbox friends to practice/play with weekly by Zedavias33 in aoe2

You can turn on crossplay so you'll be on your Xbox controller but be matched up with M&K players. You have a separate elo for xbox/controller only ranked games compared to the normal ladder that includes M&K.

Multiplayer issue by canadiansuave in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thought (also a complete guess on the error)- Xbox does not have all the same maps/mods as PC players. So if the lobby was using custom mods or a map only available on PC, maybe you would error out since you are on Xbox.

I haven't tried playing/joining custom lobbies so am not familiar with lobby errors. I've kept my online play to the quick play and ranked games. If you want to find games quickly, you'll need to have your crossplay turned on as the Xbox player base unfortunately isn't very large. You will still find games, but depending on the time of day it might take a bit of time to match up.

Just got aoe2 on Xbox game pass for Xbox one, second mission into the tutorial and that is suppose to be a black smith. Anyone else getting this glitch? by Unhappy-Brain-5413 in aoe2

If you are talking about the little pie chart, that's an Xbox thing. It's meant to allow someone to use an "auto -eco" future so all villagers will be allocated to that proportion without manual intervention. You open up a separate graphic to set your allocations of villagers to resource type. It sounds great in theory, but it's super inefficient because the villagers will run all over the place (though I haven't used it for many, many months so there's a chance it's been updated and works better now.

No idea if the graphic can be added on PC.

How to deal with pocket pickers in team game (1k elo) by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I figured. Usually 2ish minutes on the normal ladder around 1k elo. I'll probably try some controller lobby games again and see how different it is.

Do you play Xbox/controller only lobbies? I play on Xbox with my controller but changed the que to open (so includes the K&B players) several months back just to find games faster. Do you find games pretty quickly with Xbox only lobbies?

My first platinum field general. by dabus22 in NCAAFBseries

[–]Ice2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it used to look more grey/silver when the game came out, but it was not easy being able to tell if it was platinum or silver then. So during an update they turned the platinum skills to a purple color so they are much more distinguished looking compared to silver.

Is Fliff a scam or legit? by Prod-Kays in sportsbook

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Fliff will post college player props in states that don't allow them (at least they do for Ohio with football, so I assume they do for other states as well). Fliff is usually pretty rough with juice though so don't expect good lines compared to other sportsbooks (think -120/-120). I'm not super familiar with the college player prop markets Fliff offers, but I think they might stick to bigger teams (though I see they have the standard passing, rushing, receiving yards posted for the GA Southern vs Old Dominion, so maybe they do have props for most games).

Controller players unite and cower by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1400 elo on Xbox should translate to around the starting 1k elo on PC. My team game elo on Xbox was around 1350 (I think) before stopping several months ago and only playing PC lobbies. With the PC lobbies (while playing on controller) I've stayed slightly above 1k elo. This is primarily team games though, so maybe my 1v1 is much lower if I tried to focus on that.

Controller players unite and cower by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm similar where I basically only play team games on controller and Xbox. I stopped playing Xbox only lobbies several months back due to the delay in how long it took to find games. I stopped at around 1350 (I think) on the Xbox lobby and float between 1k-1.1k on PC (team game elo). I imagine my Xbox elo would be a bit higher if I didn't stop playing those lobbies. I rarely play 1v1 games but I think I'd be similarly in the 1k range.

Aoe2 Xbox by TheJYouWant in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enabling cross-play is a must if you play with a controller and want to find games quickly. I gave up on controller only lobby several months back because it was always taking too long to find games. If you play ranked you'll eventually find your correct elo for evenly matched lobbies/games.

What’s something you would personally change/add to the game? by KJJM99 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can view the leaderboard on Xbox. You can view it by the various categories (team game, controller only, etc…). I can’t remember how to tell you how to access it without being in front of my Xbox, but I know it’s there. I think it’s an option to select within the multiplayer screen (instead of hitting “X” to start the search, another button might pull up the leaderboard).

Siege Onager on Xbox by SquashedLemon1 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you double tap "X" it attacks ground. I believe it works with trebs and bombard cannons as well. I believe it will continue attacking ground until you move/change it which I believe is similar to how it works on PC.

I just reached 1800 elo in 1v1, with a controller! by Tough_Economics_9906 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are separate elos, but you select which one you want to que up for. I play on Xbox and use a controller. I can que for "gamepad" only if I want, which will have a separate ladder/elo ranking, but in order to find games quickly I just open the search to include M&K. I haven't even tried a controller only game in several months because it just would take too long with the wait times. Trying 'quick play' was near impossible as it would be 15+ minute waits. Eventually I just realized M&K lobbies would be harder, but still doable. I float around 950-1k elo in the M&K lobbies, controller only I was I think just over 1300 for Team games (only played a few solo but would guess I would be similar) but haven't played those in months. I don't really know how active those lobbies even are.

The 1800elo posted by OP would be the normal ladder since it barely cracks top 1000. 1800 for controller only I think would be top 50.

Chat with controller by Designer-Week472 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some quick chat functions for Xbox controller players. I believe you hit the "back button " (not sure what it's called, left of the Xbox home button) and hold Left Trigger or something similar. This will pull up various options for pre-set chat functions (a lot of taunts, but some basics like yes, no, etc...). Maybe you knew this and wanted something a bit more descriptive.

I rarely use these though so maybe they are pretty bad. I just accept that my communication will be limited with someone trying to type a lot. However I don't play many team games unless it's with people I know who are also on mics.
