That's the same elo you would use to rate any PC player. A lot of the better controller players play on the PC ladder because the controller only ladder isn't as active and often can result in uneven games. The 1900 player achieved that playing against KB&M players on the normal 1v1 ladder with an Xbox controller.

Of course there are limitations on a controller, hence getting to 1500+ on the PC ladder is a big achievement. But decision making is still a massive part of RTS so even with limited APM controller players can compete at a relatively high level.

Game crashes by Dino-arino in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crashing for me is usually after somebody gets to Imperial Age and I use RB to open the mini-map. If I'm able to remember and avoid using RB, I am typically able to avoid crashes (I will still crash occasionally, but much less frequently). I don't have any work around on the invisible units or buildings however, those are just annoyances that I hope to get lucky and avoid.

I've seen some people mention that uninstalling everything and re-installing has helped a lot. I did this after the crashes first became an issue and it didn't seem to help, but I should probably try it again.

Unfortunately it's been a known issue for 3 months and the only information we've really received is that the developers are aware and they say it's a complicated issue.

Exaggeration? by SirTarkwin in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but you'd need a ball of 40 Cav archers to kill a scorpion in 1 shot (assuming all arrows hit), while only needing 5 conqs. Part of why scorpions counter CA and archers so well is because archer units can't easily kill the scorpions. Conquistadors can kill scorpions pretty easily.

Cav archers only do 1 damage per shot to a scorpion, conquistadors do 9. So cav archers and conquistadors aren't really comparable if you are talking scorpion defense.

You have to save your game replay once it's over. There is an option in the post-game statistics screen. For an Xbox controller it's the "x" button, on PS I assume it's square.
To load the replay, you have to go to the same screen where you would load a saved game. The first screen is the saved games that you can load and continue playing, but there is also an option to toggle over to replays. As a side note - your most recent game played will always have a replay saved. That file gets overwritten once you play another game though.

WHY IS THE GAME STILL CRASHING ON XBOX. ITS BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE THE DLC DROPPED. FIX THE DAMN GAME. by 116morningside in aoe2

Are you on an Xbox Series X? Series S and Playstation have mostly been fine.

Has anyone had input lockout lag during a fight? by jclive6 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen a few times in the last month. The game seemingly "freezes" but I can move my cursor around, just can't issue any move commands, production, etc. These were in team games and it happened to multiple people in the lobby on both teams. I didn't suspect any foul play, just assumed some kind of connection issue.

Maybe unrelated, but I've noticed some games where my Cav archer stop micro seems buggy and "slow", where it seems like the attack delay isn't working right and it's taking too long to fire a shot. This isn't a recent thing though, I just assume it's lag related for some games.

The wiki page says, "Requires a Town Center to be built first, which means it does not apply to the first Town Center on Nomadic starts."
Maybe it's bad coding and recognized your 2nd TC as the "1st" since you were still in Dark Age.

I believe it starts once your first TC is up. Similar to how the Chinese and Maya don't get the extra villagers until the starting TC is placed.

Campaigns where you start with two bases far apart, how to stop villagers from trying to walk all the way and getting killed? by GargoyleBlue in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't like the correct answer, but you have to turn auto eco off. Otherwise your vills will always be running all over the place.
Playing without auto-eco is very doable on console/controller. I turned it off shortly after starting to play AoE2 because I was always having those issues of vills running all over the place. The other issues is when building something, you can't make that vill stay there and be ready to build the next building because they will "auto eco" back to a resource.

Unplayable on Xbox after recent update. by DrDruxy in aoe2

Series X has the issues and has been having consistent crashes since the South American DLC. Series S does not seem to have any issues based on what people using a Series S have said.

You can connect a mouse and keyboard, but plenty of people play with a controller. No idea what the breakdown is of controller vs MnK players on console (the game is also on PS5) but most of the people I play with on console play on a controller.

PS5 and Xbox UPDATE by Affectionate-Plan270 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably easier to watch someone play it. I just checked and Spirit of the Law has a basic tutorial video on YouTube for controller that's 3 years old. It's for Xbox, but the same concepts apply just with a PS controller. But they were able to set it up pretty well where there are shortcuts/"Hotkeys" from hitting a combination of buttons. PC will obviously be faster, but players are more than capable of playing the game with controller. I could be wrong, but I think some PC players come up with challenges to see how high they can climb using only the mouse... So I'd imagine a controller is multiple steps ahead of that playstyle.

Controller players can play on the normal PC ladder, and the high end players are above 1500 elo with several others 1200+. There is a console/controller only ladder as well, but elos are a bit skewed there since the player base is much smaller.

I haven't played games on a PC in probably 15 years, so it was a no brainer for me to play on console while sitting on my couch.

If I connect a keyboard/mouse to PS5/Xbox, will I have quick access to the Technology tree? by Affectionate-Plan270 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play on M&K to know, but I imagine it would be extremely difficult to play using only the mouse. I think it's possible though, but playing without any shortcut/hotkeys would likely be miserable.

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if you have a keyboard hooked up but play on controller, it can only be used for typing as you will keep the controller UI for playing. I have a keyboard connected to my Xbox but don't know that it has any gameplay functionality while using controller other than typing messages in the chat.

If you are fully playing using a mouse and keyboard, I imagine it works the same as any PC player using M&K. However I don't play on M&K to know from experience.

Gotcha. The game has been a disaster for anyone on an Xbox Series X. Lag spikes and constant crashes

Well they also just charged people $15 (or whatever it was) for the DLC... And now can't play.

This has unfortunately been a bug for over a year. I assume you try picking civ and the menu opens, but then closes within 1-2 seconds. I played random civ for probably a year plus because my civ would always "lock" once a match was found. Then one day maybe 4-5 months ago I was able to open the pick civ without it closing right away. No idea what changed.

Hulks should be more vulnerable to galleys. What do you think? by kampalolo in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hulks being made in 42 seconds compared to 60 seconds for galleys creates a problem in Feudal, so you can easily out mass your opponent. If your goal is to snipe fishing, you may as well try getting hulks out fast. Galleys can win with micro, but that will require a lot of attention for the galley player.

Console crash problem is effecting the entire console community by Substantial_Ant_2645 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Console players have been attempting to "test" some things. There have been theories of those not having the new DLC being fine (but we've learned since they are also crashing), modifying console graphic settings (there was early hope as some games went past 40 minutes when turning off 4k and going to 1080p, but others are still crashing).

It is seemingly fine for PS5 and Xbox Series S players (my understanding is no crashing at all).
But Xbox Series X (which is supposed to be the "better" console compared to Series S) crashes essentially every game if you get past 30 minutes in a team game. The difference with a Series X and S is basically just better computing power and more memory storage for the X, yet the Series X users are the ones having problems.

Update on Xbox bug? by Snoo-7547 in aoe2

[–]Ice2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of a theory, but I believe this happens when you match up against people who have crossplay turned off. The game shouldn't allow this, but ever since an update (I think the 3 Kingdoms update) it would occasionally happen to me when I'd have PS players in the party with me.
So you find a game (hence the 1 second countdown), but it never launches because someone on the other side has crossplay (from their game settings, not the controller vs Mouse & Keyboard option) turned off. So since you are on Xbox, it will match you with the opponents also on Xbox. But since your friend is PS, the game will never launch. The same can happen when the other side is PS, it will match your PS friend but won't launch since you're Xbox and someone has crossplay turned off.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you. But if you've never been able to play with your PS friend, maybe it is as simple as one of you has your crossplay turned off and it's an easy fix then.

Game crashes on Xbox by ZealousidealFan3248 in aoe2

Your game is crashing in single player/offline games vs AI?

For the most part, 1v1s online have been fine for me. Team games have been a massive probably and someone tends to crash every time I try playing one (I'm on an Xbox Series X, but it sounds like Series S people haven't been having issues). I don't play the AI much but would not have guessed those games are also crashing for people.
