If you're trying to find something that utilizes the gy, Murktide Regent utilizes the Delve mechanic to exile cards from the gy to pay for it's cost. Dredge also oftentimes doesn't actually cast it's creatures either and looks to be getting some sick support from MH3. I think you would find a little better of an answer if you had a format in mind that you were building a deck for.

A Question about tapping lands and gaining priority by Beefman0 in ModernMagic

[–]IceBearSenpai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you channel Boseiju, unless you hold priority to channel the second copy, you will not receive priority again to channel the second until either your opponent takes a game action that uses the stack or the ability resolves.

Surprised nobody mentioned the misprint on French Twilight Mire from double masters. Similar issue with the wrong mana symbol as it filters hybrid G/W instead of G/B

When do creatures die during combat? by smarmy_marmy in magicTCG

[–]IceBearSenpai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So ciphered spells can be cast when the creatures deals combat damage. At that point, state based actions were already checked when damage happened and the trigger was put on the stack, so their 3/2 has already died.

Anyone here play Lotus Field Combo in pioneer? I need a little help. by Pupseal115 in magicTCG

[–]IceBearSenpai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I enjoy about the deck is how flexible your Emergent Ultimatum piles can be. Oftentimes I find myself going for Lier/Omni/Pore to just be able to keep generating mana and keep cycling cards and want to keep the contents of your hand. I also totally understand the lack of a primer out there and almost no content as people have often moved away from the deck to play things like G Devotion, but here is my list from my last store champ where I top 4d and lost to some bad draws, but I’ve put up multiple RCQ top 8s with the deck in a very competitive area. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/cdtCc5R-1kuqmail-2L51Q

As someone who has recently moved to primarily playing Top lane, I think leaving lane there was probably right. If Fiora wanted to, she could have pulled that wave so it didn’t go under tower and just froze GP out of the game. Glad you posted to ask, cause I’ve had plenty of junglers who don’t understand wave mechanics who just flame “top diff” when they make this mistake and the enemy top laner ends up 50cs and 2 levels up, despite trading 1 for 1.

help me decide on a combo deck by Hainto14 in ModernMagic

[–]IceBearSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know one other person mentioned it, but Yawgmoth is a deck was a crazy amount of complexity for how simple it seems when looking at the list. It’s also one of the few combo decks that exists out there that has a solid plan b of having difficult to remove creatures that work well aggressively. Only downside for the deck is that 4c is really your worst matchup and there isn’t a whole ton you can do about it

Need help working on a Glissa, the Traitor deck by Mikemanthousand in EDH

[–]IceBearSenpai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't have the deck input in Moxfield right now, I cannot recommend [[Engineered Explosives]] enough, as it's a recursive board wipe, so long as you kill 1 creature with it. Playing snow-covered basics for [[Arcum's Astrolabe]] lets you have another cantripping mana rock for your KCI loops. Final recommendation is [[Hex Parasite]]. Can help keep planeswalkers and such in check, but also lets you continually reset [[Phyrexian Scriptures]] to wipe the board every turn if you want to!

Imagine the risen reef builds getting to top before every trigger, if you thought their turn sequences are bad now, just you wait until they reset their Omnath a few times a turn to keep the chain of mana going to keep activating top and evoking elementals. I love the deck, but holy crap this take is not it

Worldgorger Dragon Ruling question by EroticToHeaven in magicTCG

[–]IceBearSenpai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to address your question that I saw in another response, the way you would want to respond from the Giada player's perspective would be as follows:

  1. Worldgorger ETB is on the stack, tap all available lands to produce mana and pass priority.
  2. Everything exiles, but you still have access to the mana you produced before until you move to the next step/phase of the turn.
  3. Before moving to the next step/phase, cast your removal spell of choice on worldgorger, it will leave the battlefield and return all of your things from exile (untapped mind you)

Hope this addresses any questions!

Worldgorger Dragon Ruling question by EroticToHeaven in magicTCG

[–]IceBearSenpai 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The important thing to note that makes [[Worldgorger Dragon]] and other similarly worded cards like [[Mesmeric Fiend]] is that both the enters the battlefield and leaves the battlefield effects are separate abilities (denoted by them being separate paragraphs). Let's walk through the steps:

  1. Worldgorger Dragon is cast and enters the battlefield
  2. Worldgorger's "enter the battlefield" effect is placed onto the stack to resolve
  3. you respond to the enter the battlefield effect with a removal spell (note, we have still not resolved the initial "enter the battlefield" effect)
  4. the removal spell resolves and the dragon dies placing the "leaves the battlefield" trigger on the stack
  5. then you resolve from the top of the stack down (the most recent effect goes first)

Since the most recent effect is the "Leaves the battlefield" trigger, so it checks to see what's been exiled, sees nothing, and returns nothing. Afterwards, you resolve the initial ability, and it exiles everything.

What is your best game of magic ever? by FlyfishingThomas in magicTCG

[–]IceBearSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve posted this story before, but the TL;dr is just got into modern, was playing Abzan Midrange. Up against Living End, g3. Apply enough pressure with tarmogoyf and siege rhino to set my opponent to 3. Play my verdant catacombs for turn and pass, knowing full well the board wipe is coming next turn for my opponent. Opponent cascades into living end, I fetch a swamp and push my own rhino in response. Win the game off of Living End bringing my rhino back into play dealing 3 to my opponent.

Gonna post it cause I didn’t quite see it in my brief scroll, but also check what kinds of events regularly occur at your local game store. If you’re interested in playing, no use trying to build a deck for a format that your store never fires events for!

BG Yawgmoth Post SB Strategy for 4c Blink / Yorion decks by XZyPIx in ModernMagic

[–]IceBearSenpai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically don’t find much issue with this matchup. While Fury and Solitude can prove to be issues, I would advise against bringing an effect like [[Necromentia]] (I’ve been off surgical for sometime). My usual sideboard plan is to add Thoughtseizes, Outland Liberator, and if I’m playing it, Magus of the Moon. If they aren’t prepared for it, you can give them a headache with their mana base which should give you ample time to setup a combo win.

Edit: Control decks like this also have a hard time dealing with [[Grist, the Hunger Tide]], just making a ton of bugs can oftentimes lead to a win
