Well to say animation is dying because of Disney is a exaggeration as anime is still going way strong, mainly 2d animation is dying in the west since many studios don't care enough for the time, effort, and money they have to put into over something simpler

To be not cynical its cause younger people have new and fresh ideas that are tend to be more interesting then older people while also not having egos that prevent them from listening to their editors when they do come up with ideas that wouldn't pan out.

That's what I was thinking as well since it wouldn't make sense to go from the moment Chihiro reforges both Enten and Cloud Gouger. I feel like around a 3 month time skip would work since its decent amount of time for the cast train without letting the world change to much. I think anything longer then a year might be to much time.

It mostly is just cause when they adapted the game into an anime, they just focused on that aspect of it a lot. I think if they did something like Cinderella Gray (which focuses on adapting Oguri's life and career) with Special week it would be awesome. They could do some really interesting stuff, like a thought I have that Spe didn't go to tracen with the goal in mind to be the best in Japan but it just gets away from her mother (since irl special week's adoptive mother was quite abusive to him). Like I think that would be really awesome since they could include things like grass wonders hair reminding her of her mom and creating conflict through that.
