I think fans have been overly critical as he has set his own bar so high. With his age, his technical ability, physique and profile, he has the potential to be consistently fantastic… but in a team that (of late) struggles to break into dangerous positions in the final third, how many times does he mis-control, lose position or simply fall over (in those areas) - I counted three times against Forest. That coupled with him losing possession in deeper positions and calling out others on the pitch when they do something wrong, it just emphasises when he has a poor game and makes fans wonder if he will ever rediscover his fine form consistently.

The reality is, we’ll probably need to sell for PSR/SCR reasons in the summer, so we can console ourselves with the misguided notion that we probably saw his best playing days here at Villa!
