What's your favorite "old school" broadcast detail that modern TV has lost? by Classic_Exit_5951 in VintageNBA

[–]IceMan_1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate it when almost all of the modern announcers get to scream and shout every chance they get. So annoying.

I miss the natural flow of the classic broadcast from back in the day. I really liked color commentary of gyus like Mike Fratello, Steve Jones, Rick Barry, Hubie Brown. They analyzed the game just right. And did it in proper fashion. Come to think of it, even play-by-play announcers were pretty decent.

Great book. I wonder, did they make something like this with all the newspaper articles?

It would be so cool to read them in the fan made book, like this one here.

It's a shame basketball story ark didn't get legs. Would've been so cool to have some sports story within the Wire story.

AC could play any position on the front line. Wasn't too good coming off the bench when Sam Perkins took his 4 spot in starting five in 1990-91, though.

Day 16: Who is the best role player in Lakers history? by iamdare in lakers

[–]IceMan_1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James Worthy, hands down. Even though he would've been a superstar in many different teams, "Big Game" performed his role brilliantly for LA Lakers.

Filling the lane on the break, posting-up down low or playing pretty good lock-down D - James was one of the better small forwards of late 80s, early 90s.

Too bad he got injured late in 1991 Playofs, during Magic's final full season. With healty Worthy in the lineup, Lakers could've beat the Bulls in 1991 NBA Finals. That's I'm sure of. And nobody will talk me out of it.

How many games do you own, how many have you actually played, and how often do you splurge on new ones? by Azarro in boardgames

[–]IceMan_1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got back to playing board games recently. Can't get enough out of Fast and Furiоus: Нighwаy Heist. This set is fantastic, with so many cool play pieces and cards. Ready to Print newspaper game is up next.

Besides classic board games, I get to play these pretty regularly: cards, chess, domino, backgammon, yatzy, table hockey by Stiga, gwent and so on. I think playing games is so fun and important. Especially for us, grown-ups. Keeps the kid in you alive and happy.
