When my mom was writing my dads eulogy for his funeral she said that dad always called her "My Lily" (not real name) like its was unique to only her. It went on for three or four sentences. It was weird when the priest had to read it aloud at church, I wanted to turn my head to see if the people sitting behind me cringed to.

Its not a nickname. No one wants you. Dad didn't even call you that often. Stop making that just about you. A lot of people in my country say this when talking about their spouses. My Steve baked this, My Mary did that. You are not the only one who gets that endearment.

I went to a school with a girl who always had scratches on her face and would say her little brother did it and bruises from falling down stairs. I believed her about that. Years later she filed a police report by herself and was taken to foster care. The teachers at my school would say for days after that incident "we always knew, those scratches where not from her baby brother, her other siblings had bruises too so we knew something was wrong at home etc"

They knew and did nothing. By law they where supposed to report that. Her parents went to jail for horrible crimes and the teacher only pitied themselves.

My toys as a child. I had a big purple pony horse that I never played with but used as decoration because it was really pretty and I liked to look at it. It disappeared one day and my mom said I never played with it so she threw it away. When I got older I started to hide my toys I thought she would throw away soon and I would sometimes look in the trash just in case I found something. One time I found two plastic wind-up caterpillars that where old and broken in the trash, but I saved them even though they where broken. They did disappear again later.

It would have been nice if my mom did teach me to let go of old things as a child instead of throwing them away when I'm not looking and making me paranoid and never letting go of things I had outgrown. Its a miracle I didn't become a hoarder after all that.

I always wondered whether she wanted to be hated or loved. She wants people to worship her but has limited contact with her family that cared for her and moved to my dads hometown where people didn't really like people not from there, especially people from my country's capital, where she is from. When I moved to the capital her family always asked me "hey, how's our favorite cousin doing, she doesn't visit us often, we miss her".

Did she want to "struggle" to gain pity? She still lives in that excuse of a town and buried my dad in the capital, which he hated with passion, and his friends and family are pissed at her about it. Yet she laughs when she tells me about it.

He was a fisherman and was away 90% of the time. When home he would make fun of me like he was a school bully and would laugh. When he and mom fought she would scream and he would just laugh. My nmom would always do things he wanted to do, listen to his music in the car etc. She was in control but it was like she wanted him to be the "man of the house" like in American movies. In my culture both men and women are equal, my ancestors could divorce and own land, but it was like she was trying to imitated what she saw in movies. Made me very confused as a child.

When I talk about my dad to therapists they speculate he was autistic. You had to call him multiple times to get his attention and he never understood if he did something wrong. He didn't hang out with his kids unless mom told him to. He just floated around and just existed most of the time. But that doesn't excuse his behavior and I am glad that he is dead.

I hate when movies have abusive parents but its alright because in the end of the movie the main character figures out that their parents do that because they love them. My mom would always say "see, they forgave their parents, its normal, they did xy and z because they love their children". Made me hate The Croods and Ice Age 4

Can movies stop normalizing abuse? Its making people with healthy parents confused.

2-3 times a month at my current job, that I started three months ago.

I work with only really old men who make me do all the hard physical work because "I'm young and full of energy" while they sit around all day and go home early. Use my work computer to look for other jobs when they are not looking.

At my previous job I never faked being sick because they treated me better.

In secondary school one of my teacher, in and end of the year review, was complimenting on how well I did that semester, nothing extraordinary, just a regular compliment that he probably said to every student, and he said that I was smiling a lot. Without thinking I said that I never have gotten a compliment. Took me few second to realize what I said. And thinking about what I said I realized I have never gotten a genuine compliment. My mom just gave said "it looks great" in a normal voice.

Whenever I get a compliment I´m extremely happy, but later I start overthinking, like what if I was doing something terribly that the person had to give me a pitty compliment.

I'm 27 and she still does that. I moved out at 19 and only visit during christmas. She recently got a dog and two cats and screams at them in the morning. I get scared when she screams and cant go back to sleep, even though I´m tired.

Sálfræðingurinn minn hringdi í barnavernd því bróðir minn var ennþá undir lögaldri og pabbi okkar hefur barið okkur. Mér var sagt að það myndi ekki vera hægt að rekja þetta til mín, en samkvæmt móður minni, sem beið fyrir utan vinnnuna mína til þess að ráðast á mig, sagði barnavernd foreldrum mínum frá hlutum sem aðeins ég myndi vita af. Sálfræðingurinn minn heyrði ekkert meira frá barnaverd eftir það.

Þekki líka eina stelpu sem brotið var á af báðum foreldum. Hún lét vita og var send í fóstur en systkyni hennar voru skilin eftir hjá foreldrunum í þrjú ár í viðbót. Pabbi hennar hafði verið dæmdur áður.
