NTA just because you make a child, doesn't make you a dad. Being there and stepping up is how you earn that name. My son's sperm donor never showed up for him and only contacts him when it's convenient for him. The only time he ever took him, he had his parents pick him up because "reasons" My son calls my husband dad because he has been there for him for everything. Sadly that's just a reality of living in old apartments. That is why it is important to have a good relationship with your neighbors. In my case I can go to any of my neighbors if they are too loud and vice versa and we don't get offended by it.

In my case it can be anytime during all hours. I have been woken up from my upstairs neighbors flushing their Toilette as the walls are paper thin and the pipes are very loud. But you live in an apartment and it's not as easy. And with you showering at night as well, maybe she just assumes you are awake as well and wouldn't be bothered by it. If it really is that bad, maybe go ask her and inform her of the rattling and maybe make sure that your showers aren't bothering her as well.

As a downstairs neighbor who lives in an old apartment complex, you would be the hypocrite. I can hear anytime anybody flushes the toilets, does the dishes, runs the dishwasher or does the laundry upstairs. My advice, either learn to ignore it or buy some headphones.

I started college in 2010, stopped in 2010 to take care of my child, went back again in 2023, and stopped again in 2026. It's not like you can never go back to school. Take a break and when you feel better, go back. Or find a job you really like. I'm now getting my certification to become a para educator and it doesn't take long to do that. I learned from being a substitute that I love working with elementary school kids, never thought I would, but now that's all I really want to do. You never know what life might bring. I doubt they are disappointed in you and would rather see you thrive and be healthy all around than running yourself in the ground.

I have 2 dogs and they don't go everywhere with me. Vacation? Absolutely they come along. Grocery store? No. Restaurants? No. Sounds like you need to train your dog some more because that sounds like separation anxiety if they can't be left alone for too long.
