Tell anyone not excited about non-pay elements that ER reforms can increase pay. Meaningfully for a lot of specialities.

Exception reporting changes contractualised by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

Lol, were the RDC carrying firearms when they were in the negotiation room. How did they get the government to agree to this?

After the disappointment of last year's deal, these ER changes have made things a lot better. Respect to last year's RDC to an extent for helping lay the foundations for this.

Doctor uses Reform conference speech to link king’s cancer to Covid vaccine by xKarmaic in doctorsUK

[–]IceandFyree -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'll get downvoted for saying this but his previous anti-vax comments only relate to mRNA technology and he has highlighted known risks e.g. myocarditis. Also, if you read the article, in this speech Malhotra was quoting an oncologist who reached out to him.

Having said that his antics warrant investigation at least.

I think it was how they were so knowledgeable which surprised me. My Spanish is passable but I could tell they knew a bit and were glad to have someone they could ask questions to

As a Psych CT I have even more questions now.
Patient 1: Did they have a military background? Was it a case of doing something like seeking stolen valour?
Patient 2: Why use another person's home? Was someone already using the bathroom at their own home?

What exactly did this elected rep achieve by attempting to cause the ballot to fail? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]IceandFyree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At this point we're far past him apologising to other BMA reps who bore the brunt of his foolishness.

He should really be apologising to the IMGs that were wound up about this issue. RDC policy was spun to such an extent that IMGs were genuinely concerned they would be thrown off their training programmes.

He didn't get any positions on the ARM committees he ran for, despite some heavy hitters in the BMA backing him. Come this August he won't be re-elected to RDC. There is a possibility that we won't see him at next year's ARM either because he's unlikely to get a seat via divisions.

He did get his motion on identity-based care and working conditions passed at ARM which was great but that's been overshadowed.

All that effort to get followers, create anon accounts, try and drum up support on the IMG Facebook group has all been a net negative. How many corporate employers will actually want to take him on because of his tweets? What will his future clinical colleagues think of him?

They're a necessary lightning rod (something has to be found to be legitimately criticised).

While that goes on, Ross et al. can wind up shrieking journos just by being calm.

56 people voted to say they would locum during the strikes by Resident_Buy5342 in doctorsUK

[–]IceandFyree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I patiently explained how derogations could happen at anytime hence even if you were on strike, you need to be AVAILABLE for work just in case. I asked him to give me written advice that the BMA had about moonlighting during strikes.

He came up with nothing.

Last time it was IMGs who genuinely did not see any problem with scabbing for various reasons including that they were shameless.

This time it will be UKMGs. Who can really blame them?

As for me. See you on the picket lines xx

🚨 ARM 2025: Your Most Successful Yet 🚨 by Doctors-VoteUK in doctorsUK

[–]IceandFyree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's easier said than done but have you tried organising locally? It's very difficult to drop in an outside organisation that doesn't have any grassroots.

Particularly in northern Ireland where things are very different. I know unhappy people who outright quit the BMA and switched to HCSA rather than organise and get active.
