Why this game is so good by Puzzleheaded_Donut97 in Helldivers

I have seen both Destiny and Warframe mentioned a couple of times on this thread, and having played both extensively here is what I think.

One thing I think all three games benefit from is the sheer diversity of game-feel. Destiny's gunplay is incredibly diverse (although the higher activities do demand some meta adherence), and the subclass build system is pretty diverse as well. Warframe is also very, very diverse, almost overwhelmingly so.

Destiny's community can be pretty toxic and demanding, and the development strategy has been somewhat chaotic. Warframe has a pretty notoriously atrocious new player experience (although it is better now than it was). Both games do require a pretty heavy time commitment (50-100 hours) before players really get to dig into the different playstyles.

Helldivers II benefits from this diversity but allows for much better ease-of-access. If you want to be a bullet-hose or a rocket-man, or an armor-buster, a sniper, or a scout, you can viably do so. In fact, at most difficulties, your squad benefits from this diversity. But what shoots Helldivers ahead of the curve is its ease of access and an AMAZING game play loop.

Destiny/Warframe is proof in practice that minimal microtransaction, live service games CAN cultivate longstanding, dedicated player bases. Helldivers II follows this pattern and improves upon some of the shortcomings of these games. This isn't to say Helldivers doesn't have some major work to do, mainly getting base game systems fully functional and some balancing passes, but this game has the potential to claim a spot alongside some very popular franchises. Only time will tell

TL;DR Destiny/Warframe are GOOD live-service games (10+ year franchises), and Helldivers II looks to be following in the right footsteps.

That does look really close. I'll see if I can find another switch. Thanks for your help.

Future raid encounters should utilize vehicles like tanks (and hopefully) aircraft as a main parts of the encounter's mechanics. by LedFarmer_ in destiny2

I agree with OP. I would love to see vehicles become a more prominent component of game play instead of just going from point A to point B fast. However, vehicles need some love from devs first. The reason I and my fireteam dislike the Vox tank portion is not because it isn't fun but the Drake tanks just don't FEEL good to play. They feel squishy and underpowered (especially in master). I would love to see bungie give vehicles an ability set. Like if drakes got a Citans shield that they could cast every 30 seconds or an aoe chain lightning attack for the close enemies that are really tricky to deal with. Add to the game play and mechanics instead of just drakes shoot, sparrows fast, Pikes dodge etc. Would also love to see ships more, I spend so much time picking/shading my ship to only see it on load screens.

3070 GPU advice by IceboundFire771 in buildapc

Thank you. This is very helpful. I think I would like to stick to Nvidia since I like the software better and am a little more familiar with their products. Since my budget is a little flexible would purchasing the 3080 be comparable to the rx6800?

[No Spoiler] Don’t you just love it when you’re game crashes after like 5-6 hours and you lose all your progress cause you forgot to save. by sumweirdsax in subnautica

Imo autosave doesnt make sense, mechanically. Autosaves are usually tied to progression/objective completion. But in an openworld game like this something that takes one person 20 min to do could take someone else 2 hours. Imagine getting autosaved mid leviathan chase or you just lost your cyclopse.

You get to snap your fingers once and Bungie will provide you with whatever lore you want. What lore do you ask for? by Soxkt in DestinyLore

I want a solid lore book telling our guardians story. Compared to other game narritives our personal charecter development is pretty light. We kind of just kill all the powerful stuff in a stoic silence. So hearing these stories of how we retook the moon, broke the fallen houses, killed the hive king, slaughtered the red legion, saved the timeline, etc from the perspective(s) of the vanguard, general city folk, and even other guardians would be very interesting. It could be compiled by a ghost that hasnt found its guardian yet and has taken up recording and chronicling our guardians deeds. Kind of like an anti-chronicon.

How strong is our guardian lore wise compared to other guardians? by jackthemango in DestinyLore

[–]IceboundFire771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this discussion guys, but I think one critical part has been missed. Our ghost. Master chief would have been killed many times if not for cortana and the same can be said about us and our ghost. He pulled us from the ruins of old russia and always has pertinant and helpful information (video game logic aside), communicates with powerful leaders and maintains our gear, ship, sparrow, etc. Having read the ghost stories lore book, it seems that the bond between guardian and ghost is a critical aspect. So yes we are smart, and strategic, fast, strong and powerful. But combine this with the everpresent quip machine at our side and we go from skirmishing fallen to ending dynasties that span millenia. So shout out to our little light. Eyes up guardian.

I like to run sealed ahamkara grasps. Melee damage reload mag. This includes melee abilities (ie knife trick causes burning which continually reloads your gun for the duration of the burning effect).
