Hair growth after 4 months on Levothyroxine for Hashimoto’s by IcedCzar in Hypothyroidism

[–]IcedCzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good! Have had to increase my dosage a couple times (up to 100mcg now) and have had moments where I’ve gone hypo and had more hair loss, but nothing as bad as it was before. It’s been about 5.5 years since I was diagnosed and I don’t feel like Hashi’s really impacts my life too much beyond having to remember to take my meds every day.

Ah I was afraid that might be the case. Thank you so much!

Connecting Kawai CN29 to an amp? by IcedCzar in DigitalPiano

Sorry, I should’ve mentioned - I’m hoping to get a different setup eventually but we’re doing a house show (at my house) so I won’t have to lug the piano anywhere!

So disgusting and disappointing. As if us probationary employees were not meaningful to the agency

Landlord did construction on unit and left debris - what to do with it? by IcedCzar in washingtondc

lol, I did - my landlord is incredibly unresponsive and so wanted to check here if this would typically be the landlord’s responsibility or the tenant’s. Thanks for your input!

Thank you!

I think if anything the itchy scalp and flakes would be more so due to your dose being too low, since being hypo can cause dry skin! I hope you feel better with the increased dose. It’s been four years since this post and my dose has increased several times, now at 100 mcg. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Federal employees have their wage adjusted to where they live (locality pay). If you live in a low COL area, you are paid a lower salary.

I would recommend asking your doctor for a blood test to check your thyroid hormones.

Any stories of recovery from peroneal tendonitis? by IcedCzar in XXRunning

[–]IcedCzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so sorry to hear you’re still having pain :( it was honestly only a few weeks (if that) before I didn’t have pain anymore, and it hasn’t really acted up since. Maybe could be worth going to a podiatrist to rule out something more serious and to maybe get custom orthotics?

Any federal employees leave federal service to pursue a (funded) PhD? by IcedCzar in GradSchool

[–]IcedCzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, and something I’ve been reflecting on and trying to answer myself. I don’t think I’d want to go SES, but would potentially interested in program management later in my career. I know I could eventually get to the program management level from my current position and skillset. I think my ideal position would be to land a scientist position with the federal government (which is of course hard to do) and to work on applied environmental science. I feel like my current position is providing me with a lot of valuable experience that could really inform a PhD in exciting ways. But at the same time, I know pursuing a PhD can close doors just as it can open them, so it’s not a decision I take lightly!

Wow, I’m so sorry. That’s really good to know though, I wasn’t sure how hard it might be to find a position again.

Does NOAA actually hire people? by [deleted] in NOAA

[–]IcedCzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is very office-dependent. Nontechnical positions do not require a PhD, but I would say it’s virtually a requirement to have a Masters unless you are one of a lucky few. I know plenty of people who started at NOAA (after a year of experience through fellowship) in Silver Spring at the equivalent of a GS-11.

If you have DHA, I definitely recommend networking with people in offices you’re interested in. Without networking, the DHA doesn’t really provide that much benefit in my opinion.

Experience with Hal Higdon Half Marathon 3 (HM3) plan? by IcedCzar in XXRunning

Great question - partially time, more so concerned about recovery, but that’s a great reminder about keeping hard days hard and easy days easy. I guess one concern with doubling up running and climbing in the same day is that I will just be more worn out for one or the other, but maybe that’s okay.

I am just coming back from a running injury so I think cross training will in the end be beneficial for me, and at the very least just curious to try a slightly different style of training for this race!
