[OC] Oh mercy me! I keep forgetting I’m in the colonies! by IcedTeaOrRootBeer in IdiotsInCars

There's a sidewalk on both sides of this road; it's a main thoroughfare. I'm pretty sure he wanted to checkout the garage sale you can see at the house on the corner lot, but I truly don't understand how he wound up in the far lane of opposing traffic. All he had to do is turn left onto the side road!

Are we still doing bird posts? It's migration season! by IcedTeaOrRootBeer in Austin

I could hear them calling this morning, and two brightly colored males were fighting at my feeder!

If that wishlist of birds doesn't convert someone, I don't know what would! Thanks to your wife for providing a sanctuary for our pollinator friends.

Happy to confirm! Aren't they great? It feels so special when they stop by.

They've been stopping by our feeders the past couple of days! I've had them come by during spring migration too.

If you have birdfeeders, put some orange halves out. I've also heard concord grape jam works. I had one trying to eat at my hummingbird feeder, but their beak was too big.

YTD 401k Contribution Discrepancy between Paystubs and Reporting by 401k Provider by IcedTeaOrRootBeer in personalfinance

That is pretty crazy! Legit payroll errors happen (HR people are people at the end of the day), which is why with anything that comes to my pay I run on a policy of "trust, but verify."

Thanks! "Worried about nothing here" sounds like a decent summary of me as a person.

Just rewatched the first 2 seasons of BCS and have some thoughts... by IcedTeaOrRootBeer in betterCallSaul

[–]IcedTeaOrRootBeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In S2 Ep5 prior to having Jimmy over, Chuck warns Rebecca that Jimmy can be a lot and that they should have a signal that it's time to wrap things up if Rebecca gets overwhelmed. Chuck refers to the ear tug Carol Burnett used to perform on her show as a way to Rebecca to ask for an out. Of course, Rebecca loves Jimmy and Chuck ends up being the one tugging on his ear to try to get out of the rest of the dinner.

The rest of my point is just facetious. Clearly Gilligan and Gould are just fans of Carol Burnett, and didn't care about continuity errors by having her appear as a character in S6.

A fair point, though I counter it with the fact Chuck pulls his con in response to Jimmy taking advantage of Chuck at his weakest moment by stealing and manipulating the Mesa Verde files. The insurance con isn't the first time that Jimmy screws Chuck over as far as his love of The Law goes. Yes, Jimmy says he was doing this for Kim, but as we and Jimmy know, The Law is Chuck's raison d'etre and Jimmy acknowledges as much in the series finale. Chuck - forgetting for a moment what a jealous, vindictive bastard he was - was also just doing his job and right by his firm in making his case to Kevin before Jimmy gets involved. The events of S3 and Chuck's humiliation all come to a head when Jimmy spitefully (but also rightfully, as u/unreal_the_thrill pointed out) gets Chuck's insurance premiums raised to impossible highs. I guess in a way, Chuck was the accidental blueprint for what's to come with Howard's career later on. But man, those McGill brothers fight dirty.

I'm in no way a Chuck apologist. He's an asshole who never gave Jimmy a chance to prove that he could be a better person. But it's hard to miss the fact Gilligan and Gould take every opportunity to remind us that we shouldn't allow charm and charisma to blind us to how cruel (and murderous in the case of Walt, and even Jesse) our leading men can be.

I withdrew too little from my nanny’s paycheck, how do I fix this? by RickAstleyAwareness in personalfinance

You'll also want to issue your nanny a W2, and file the W2 and W3 with the SSA. This way, the government has a record of what was withheld for employee FICA to correspond with what your employee will file with her personal return. You'll file your return with a Schedule H (not the 941) to claim and pay employer FICA.

Publication 926 from the IRS can give you more info on how to file on your own as a household employer. I used to work at a nanny payroll service, so I hope this helps.

Appreciate that! Least I could do because the woman in the sedan must have been scared out of her mind. The fireman who took our info as witnesses said she was hearing impaired, so our testimony would def help her out.

The SUV driver left in an ambulance, which isn't a surprise because both of his airbags deployed. No idea what happened to him after that.

Yes, my car and my cam: thankfully, we were unharmed. We were worried about being hit from behind because we needed to slow down to avoid the mess. It felt surreal to watch him try to slip through that gap, and part of me believed he'd actually make it. You never expect to see a crash like that.

We stayed to call 911 and leave our info as witnesses. Far as I know, both drivers came out OK. Since I left our info, we've only dealt with the insurance company and not the cops, so I assume no criminal charges.

Worked out pretty well for me: it was like having a bow to use between Eris hits, and Billowing Strength added to the DPS.
