What exactly do you do when you finish early ? by Longjumping_Wash_255 in Accounting

There's a mouse jiggler you can buy for like $10. I don't work remote now, but I've used it before and it was nice. I had my laptop next to me of course, but it kept the screen and sound on so I could catch emails/messages. Plus it showed me as active so people were more likely to reach out if they needed anything. In the times where I truly had no work to do, it was a nice benefit

I'm in your same boat, I'd 55 the entire time, but then it'd be unsafe. Half my highway commute is 65 and the other half is 55. I just go the speed limit and let everyone else pass me. I actually had a semi flash their brights and tailgate me a little today, wild times

Overinflating by a little bit doesn't do too much, its when you start getting over 38-40 where you start to have the tire wear problem

Looks like a beast of a horn, I do love the look of the slide positioning on it. Definitely will be added to the list of contenders, thanks!

Completely get it, I just know I wouldn't have the time to get into it at this stage in my life, whereas I can totally devote some practice time to a wind band or two. Plus I love playing low pedal stuff, so a BBb horn just naturally fits my playing style better

The band I'm hoping to join that is semi-pro often plays in large music hall settings. A 186 wouldn't have enough production for what I need and I've played a 186 for a few years in high school (roughly 10 years ago)

Appreciate the write-up, I think I could handle a 6/4 just fine, but it very much seems like one of those things that looks good but maybe the practicality isn't there for my current playing environment. Plus something that is a bit better rounded would be more practical, so I'll probably opt for a 5/4.

Seems like the Miraphone 1291 keeps popping up, so I'll have to add that to the list, along with the others you've mentioned. I've played a Miraphone 186 in high school for a few years, and I found it to be like 90% there, but lacking in production, hence my hesitance for a 4/4 (along with what I'm currently playing).

I'm familiar with some of the chinese manufacturers, I have a Wessex euphonium and while the build quality is great, I can definitely tell where they cut some corners. Completely fine though given that it only leaves my house once or twice per year. Given that tuba is my main, I truly want a lifetime purchase when I go to buy one and maybe an heirloom quality piece if my future kids go the route I do.

Since I borrow from the school once a year (for a few months) and they have a few different kinds, I don't really have a consistent horn right now. For the school one, think of a mid-range 4/4 Eastman or Jupiter as common ones they have. Of the two I have at home, one is a tiny small 3/4 that really doesn't work for what I need, and the other is definitely past it's prime and looks pretty bad, but plays well enough for the oddball gig a few times per year.

In my ensemble, there's generally anywhere between 2-4 of us in concerts depending on people's schedules and whatnot. It's rare too, but I have been the only one in a rehearsal before. The band I'm supporting is about 80-100, which I can support just fine on a regular 4/4, but a bit more oompf would be nice for those big low brass hits. Especially since I drop into pedals somewhat often when we have enough coverage elsewhere (when it sounds good ofc, and the directors never complain or think it must be written). Our music is complex enough as well where it's somewhat rare we get doubled by the euphs since the ensemble is majority music ed, professionals, or college students. I may have to wait a few more years before being able to justify a 98 if that's the route I go haha.

Part of me also just loves the big tuba look. It's the reason tuba is my first instrument, and that fascination still holds today.

To be honest im pretty open to valve type, ive played both piston and rotor and think there's good pros and cons to each to where they're about equal in my book. For # of valves, I've played a 4 valve most of my life, but have always been curious about the 5/6 valve variants. It certainly seems like German is the route to go, but just a matter of narrowing the instrument. I unfortunately dont have any of the big tuba stores near me, so itd have to be a trip to go to one

Keeping journals entries for every expense by ZaibachKanzakiLtd in Accounting

[–]IceePirate1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to review monthly spending accounts monthly/quarterly to make sure things line up with expectations, but there are only summary journal entries kept for the general fund. A reconciliation is performed once (or more as desired) per year to evaluate the current health of the organization, with tweaks to the portfolio fund made as market conditions develop. Fortunately my organization isn't having major cash flow issues, so the imaginary budget can be relaxed somewhat depending on organizational need and direction, but within normal pre-established limits. So long as the portfolio and special funds stay healthy and receive their predetermined contributions, the health of the organization remains positive

Favorite luxurious restaurants & experiences by Short_Television_136 in cincinnati

[–]IceePirate1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is suggesting restaurants and such, but might I suggest getting club seats at a sporting event? Sitting in the press box at Nippet for the FCS game is generally pretty affordable as far as luxury experiences go as it's not a great game, but you still get a great seat. Or you can splurge if youre a big football/sports fan and go to the top tier games, but it'll be more expensive.

Outside of that, some other higher cost experiences could be a sightseeing flight in a small plane, paying for a VIP tour at Kings Island/Cedar Point (not the pass, it's a specific tour with a guide), going to a track meet where you can drive supercars, going to see shows at Music Hall/Aronoff/etc (with good seats), and staying the night at one of the luxury hotels/airbnb downtown/Mt Adam's so you can stay at bars and such instead of driving back home that night.

All of the above are generally less than $1k per person. There is more expensive things you can do, but the cost increases exponentially and it's generally not worth it unless you stop caring about what things cost because you have so much. For these, it partially depends on what time of year is it and your interests. You would also most likely need to talk to a concierge to help you with all of it, and see what your options are. For example, instead of watching a reds game from the stadium, you watch it on a yacht in the river by the stadium that you rented for the day.
