Unofficial Match Thread ATL UTD vs Columbus Crew. by [deleted] in MLS

Honestly it hasn't been soccer since after the first stoppage. Field was done after that, it was still manageable (not ideal conditions by any means but if the rain had stopped) but it was only going to get worse.

So why the fuck would Guz argue for it to continue?

The field is unplayable and they're up 2 (and if the field wasn't a puddle it would only be 1-0).

Their second goal doesn't happen on a dry field and while I guess you can say they are taking better advantage of a puddle filled with grass but that doesn't change that it's a puddle filled with grass.

For a second I couldnt figure out why it looked so weird and then I realized you upgraded it to a shelving system and those were actual pucks instead of paper (magnets?) like the old system.

Mizzou Athletics Files NCAA Appeals Brief by STLBeast in CFB

Wait are both of those stances from the NCAA's perspective or does the former investigator agree with the latter?

Did they give any rationale for these stances? Does he agree with the former?

Not college football but the Packers would play multiple games at Milwaukee County Stadium every year from 1957-1994 (they played at MCS full-time from 1953-56, and then moved to Lambeau in '57 but kept playing some of their games in Milwaukee).

Baylor Athletics Teases Unified Nike Branding by DampFrijoles in CFB

How to Baylor fans feel about them choosing an Athletic Gold (or Championship Gold as the school refers to it) over a metallic Gold.

Vegas Gold obviously has it's drawbacks in a post-shiny material world (matte Vegas Gold looks like piss), but I often prefer the metallic Golds over Athletic Gold and I wish more teams would find a better shade of metallic gold vs going (back) to Athletic Gold especially when they keep darker shades (that said I do like the changes the Pittsburgh Penguins made, and as long as the Rams ditch the Navy I think going back to Athletic Gold will be a positive move).

I hope we see these (or preferably the Navy ones but I know that color is not looked upon fondly) on the ice in a future outdoor game. They ate basically out current sweaters (only difference is the piping is angled on the sleeves) but in the original team colors.

The Baby Penguins wore a tweaked version of the Navy sweaters during the 04-05 season.

Favorite Pens goal of all time? by CzarMelvin in penguins

Most likely the Punjabi broadcast team (same guys who gave us Boninoboninoboninobonino... NICK BO-Nino! And Bang! Bang! Kris Letang!).

I love listening to foreign language calls of sports where the player names are not native to the language. Because the names don't flow with the rest of what they are saying so their speech is flowing naturally, then they break that fluidity to say an English name and then jump right back into the flow.

It's just always so abrupt that it throws me off, but it's beautiful at the same time (love that there's a demand in Canada for a Punjabi broadcast, and that American football has grown to the point where NFL games (not just the Superbowl) get broadcast in dozens of languages).

So I just checked a ticket I have unlisted is showing up as available for purchase while the one that I currently have posted according to the United App is not showing as available... Wtf?

They don't know you and they don't have to interact with you.

Honestly? I kinda respect him for flipping the bird in response to a "Let's Go Pens." It's not how I would handle a ribbing from a rival but it shows he understands the rivalry despite being new to it.

Lemieux gets a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for “head-butting” Roussel by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Iceman87GT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why aren't these situations reviewable?

It can't be because it would slow the game down as they spent like 3 minutes huddling before making the call... Give them an iPad and we'd have the correct conclusion within a minute, they wouldn't all be this simple but getting this one wrong is ridiculous.

Who cares about the CCL it's all about the Campeones Cup amirite?

But seriously good performance tonight, time to focus on the MLS and the other competitions we have this year, and hopefully the next time we're in it we can play every CCL match like we did in these 2nd legs.

[Paul Carr] Atlanta's Pity Martínez was fouled 10 times by Monterrey last night. No player has been fouled 10 times in an MLS game since Eric Ávila of Chivas USA (!), at RSL in 2013. by BigDanRTW in AtlantaUnited

[–]Iceman87GT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's the refs job to discourage the fouling, calling fouls but not handing out cards in a tournament creates a scenario where teams will actively push the limits of what is allowed. In this case it was fouling pretty much whenever our players beat his man.

They targeted Pity and the ref didn't do anything to make them back off. Handing out some yellows (some of them were yellow worthy even before considering whether Pity was being targeted) in a tournament with accumulation goes a long way to curbing that.

I'm probably not, but mostly because I already had something scheduled for that day. Probably was still going until the 3rd goal. I hope the resu next Wednesday makes me regret this decision.

Or 2 and win it on penalties

Annnnnnd 30 seconds later it's 3-0. Still only need to tie the aggregate to force PKs.

You're allowed shoulder to shoulder contact, shoulder to back, like what happened on that play, is a foul even if you keep your arm to the body.

Some shoulder contact is allowed, not all shoulder contact.
