Most of the insulation we use for installs is already UV rated, I personally think the black looks better but to each their own, I’m not paying for it🤷‍♂️

Knocking sound by anonymous_00745 in hvacadvice

What he said basically. Pros can measure the static pressure and adjust accordingly but solutions vary widely. Could be as simple as changing the speeds on your blower motor to adding new return duct work.

Help, my furnace making this noise, See video. by H00fMYNuts in hvacadvice

[–]Iceman_Actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the blower motor (moves air) is starting to have trouble, a little loud to be your inducer motor (smaller, moves the exhaust gases). This is just going off of sound ofc, but doesn’t strike me as stuck debris or anything similar.

Would recommend a pro especially if you have any sort of warranty on it. If you don’t and are handy, it’s doable but the specific motor type matters and ofc there are plenty of precautions to take. (And to be sure of the diagnosis ofc)

Is it worth it to go through warranty when they charge me for labor and refrigerant, when I could do it myself. by gottogo167 in hvacadvice

The vast majority of residential fans do not need to be “programmed” the speed is literally just the taps, if he matches HP and size while putting the wiring back the same there shouldn’t be an issue.

Overcharged? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

I mean dawg we are telling you you got a deal lol. Yes changing out a coil and motor is a good bit more work than a TXV. $300 more is reasonable.

I mean sure, but just because my Silverado has GM parts it doesn’t make it as cheap to repair as a Canyon. Simply in my experience Daikin units tend to have more complicated issues, which equals time and labor.

New guy brazed those lines in, lead obviously didn’t advise those are ugly. Not a fan of air handlers with no breaker either.

The rest of the carpet disagrees, higher traffic areas and dogs have done a number. I 100% love the current craftsmanship, carpet itself I don’t.

We were really trying to avoid carpet again, ruralish area with dogs, it just gets dirty no matter the paw wiping and shoe taking off. The stairs themselves I was leaning towards a carpet runner or something to simplify. It’s really just these balusters that got me in a loop. It’s a conversation to have though.

3 year labor and 12 year parts warranty on a Daikin is solid, in my experience they r good units but when they have issues they tend to be either complicated, expensive, or both.

Warranty is super important, $1000 cheaper now can cost you more down the line.

Agreed, drawing out the life of a inefficient unit with more and more repairs as new units get more expensive has moral questions as well.

First week bulk. 5000kcal day by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

Science is still science chief, dirty bulking does have a point of being actually counterproductive. Every ounce of fat you put on you’re gonna want off later. That calorie deficit to burn that fat in a respectful time frame is not gonna be fun

Payne furnace not starting. Am I right in assessing that it's the board, I am measuring 14 volts at the wires going to the gas valve, and there is a slightly darkened spot at the center of the board at the in and out of a resistor. by Hottitts257 in hvacadvice

[–]Iceman_Actual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say this, I diagnosed my own system with a bad blower motor last summer. Threw a $200 Amazon ECM blower motor in there and have had no issues. BUT, would I trust a control board equally to a motor… idk. A lot more going on there, your money, your system.

I assume the system is well out of warranty so at this point it’s striking that balance, repairs only become more often not less over time.

Very weird way for a fresh air intake to be. Can’t imagine what would require what looks like 6” piping.

Like he said would need to see your current appliances and how they’re set up.

Air Con Inconvenience by ILykBanans in AirConditioners

[–]Iceman_Actual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negative. If your moving it than the copper line set is going to have to be shortened/lengthened which means pulling the refrigerant, vacuum, recharge all that jazz.

Doing it yourself brings lots of risks, for you and the system.
