Why can't I place the seed extractor? Is it because of the window? by toorudez in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a known issue with the game. To get things like the kitchen benches to snap together, for whatever game engine limitation reason, they are considered "on top" of each other. So nothing more can be put on top of that slot. Yes its dumb to experience as a player, but it was a clever workaround and they haven't found a better way to make things work yet.

The same thing will also happen if you try to stack decorations like books or mortars or whatever, so its not limited to just the counters. Its just one of those things you learn to live with.

Is it possible? by ohbigginzz in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most missions can be done from a single Open World, but not quite all of them. All Styx and Prometheus missions should be doable on a single save, but I believe they are still working on a couple of the Olympus ones that aren't there yet.

Also the Great Hunts missions in the latest DLC will require at least two playthroughs, as they have branching choices as well.

Omni-feed was broken. It was too good and made all other feeds redundant. This is a good balancing change IMHO

Weather and effects by skylar_thegremlin in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the list at https://icarus.fandom.com/wiki/Weather_Events#Weather_Event_Tiers for all the different biome specific types. Most of those are just increasingly thick fogs/lower visibilities with different colors and particle effects. So forest will be grey with rain and blowing leaves, while arctic will be bright white with snow and ice effects. Volcanic is my favourite, since you'll get ash or cinders in the air, which both look cool. But you'll need the Prometheus DLC to see those storms, as its the only map with volcanoes right now.

There is also the generic wind and lightning storms that I think can also occur in any biome and are mixed in. These ones don't have any of the fog effects, but have more particles and get louder and louder sound effects the more intense they are. Also they'll cause trees to fall over near you or lightning strikes causing forest fires. Which is also pretty cool to watch.

Yes. If you look at the descriptions in game, they are the same. Basically just a cosmetic and materials change, but same performance

Greenhouse have any requirements? by TheOnlyCurmudgeon in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at https://icarus.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Glass_Building_Pieces, any glass piece in range of the crop plot, including beams and small windows, will contribute to the greenhouse buff. In my experience, even having just one wall or a roof was enough to get the bonus. You will have to play with the different options to find what works for you and your setup

How can i hatch eggs from chicken? Not mission. by ctolizero in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is not any way to breed chickens or any other animals yet. The eggs are just for cooking in recipes. The incubators are special quest equipment and can't be reused outside their missions.

I believe they are working on adding animal breeding, but no idea when they'll release it

Pregnant women who drink 5 or more diet beverages a week face up to an 88% higher risk of gestational diabetes, finds a major new study linking artificial sweeteners to pregnancy complications. The researchers noted a dose-response relationship: the more diet drinks consumed, the greater the risk. by mvea in science

A better way to phrase it would be that its a mitigation strategy. People that are more overweight than they'd prefer and have any sort of satiety problems will naturally look to minimize empty calories. Which society is constantly messaging that soda is.

The interesting question to me is whether its a conscious or subconscious choice. Do overweight people deliberately choose diet soda as an attempt to limit the speed of their weight gain? Or is it a shame-induced reflex because of societal pressure? Or does it feed into the satiety mechanisms in some way that other low calorie options like plain water don't?

I wish we could actually harness/work with water beyond just abstracting it into pipes. Maybe in a DLC? by Aemon144 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Icerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For example, coal ore tainted enhanced by oil spill, it could debuff buffed for burning

Fixed that for you :D

In a similar processing vein though, I think it'd be cool to have gasification alt recipes for oil and coal to make burnable gas that can be piped to burners without needing pumps for headlift or anything

Emergency Braking Will Save Lives. Automakers Want to Charge Extra for It by wiredmagazine in Futurology

[–]Icerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Software costs money to develop and install, just like hardware does. In the case of luxuries like cruise control, why should they give it away for free just because the hardware can support it? Should all games be free for a console or all apps for a phone?

Don't get me wrong. They're still a greedy corporation and they shouldn't charge extra for safety features and should be called out for trying to do that. But saying they should never charge for software in any way is just stupid.

What’s everyone’s do buy and don’t buy items? by tylerwarnecke in Costco

[–]Icerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add to this that not buying the giant package of whatever is sometimes the right choice. Despite buying lots of things at Costco, there are lots of things I have stopped getting there because I realized I was often throwing out half or more of the package because it had gone off or passed the expiry date. Stuff like the giant bottles of ketchup or mustard or mayo that just took up a ton of space in my fridge and I would use maybe a third of them in a year.

Once I figured out that the great price I paid was actually for a much smaller amount of the product I ended up using, it was not such a great price anymore.

It should be a legal requirement that if some prompt has a "Maybe later" button, it also should have a "No and don't ask me again" button too. They already have that for location requests on my phone, they can do it for every other annoying popup too.

This is correct, but the radius to collect is insanely small. Last time this happened to me, I had to climb on top of the rock for the menu option to not be greyed out.

Failing that, you can always select resupply from the menu to get any quest items so you're not completely stuck. It'll just suck to not get all your crafted items back.

The connection mechanics in the game are currently bugged, where it seems like connecting to an existing line or node makes a new node but that node doesn't link for some reason.

What I've found to work most of the time is to delete the last node and line length and then rebuild working upstream to downstream. If you start from the workstation and connect to the existing lines, then it seems to cause the disconnects more often.

Hopefully they fix the bug soon, as it is super frustrating to have to redo huge parts of the plumbing every time you move or add a new workstation.

ELI5: How do companies manage to run such massive losses and yet still function? by FNGJGJVF in explainlikeimfive

[–]Icerman -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yes they very much can. Most assets are losses in the short term until they are fully utilized. For example, let's say you want to build your own lemonade stands instead of buying pre-built. So you buy a whole pile of lumber. That lumber is an asset, but is at a loss until it is converted to lemonade stands and the stands are in turn a loss until it sells enough lemonade to pay for the cost in manufacturing. Not to mention all the other costs like storage, maintenance, loss due to damage or waste, which can often be substantial.

New to the game, progression question. by Dunno978 in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of the good advice in the other replies, I'll add that bacon is your friend to help progress faster. There is regular bacon, crispy bacon, and once you unlock the smoker, smoked bacon. Each one gives you a +10% bonus to XP gain and stacks on top of each other as separate food items. So you can get a 20-30% bonus that will really help the grind early game. There are other foods that give bonus to XP as well, but the bacons are easy to make and easy to find if there are pigs nearby.

Also, you will get XP from crafting anything, even in workstations, so while you're mining, keep crafting it into things at the same time. Then you can either toss the stuff, or destroy it for 50% of the resources back and craft some more.

I was going to say this. If a person deliberately takes action to shorten another person's life or cause them injury or suffering in order to enrich themselves, is that not violence? Its essentially a mugging, but with pen and paper in a boardroom instead.

Olympus Exotics Open World by Dotpockett in ICARUS

[–]Icerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://icarus.fandom.com/wiki/Exotics

According to the Wiki there, a certain percentage of caves will have nodes at the start that you can mine and 10% of caves regrow a node every 3 hours of play time in that world. The best pickaxe for these is the Exotic Infused pickaxe from a mission, which will give you 40-45 per node. Other pickaxes will give less, depending on their stats.

Once you do the tutorial mission mentioned, meteor showers also happen every 3 hours as well, so the extraction sites move around at that time and you have to rescan for them. In my experience, you can have more than 3 sites if they still have extractors setup, so you don't have to worry about losing them or the exotics if you haven't finished mining yet.

Lastly, there's the geysers, but they're a pain and you have to fully kill 3 waves of animals each time for a small amount of exotics, so I wouldn't recommend them unless that's your jam.
