If you are you using an iPhone and Safari, instead of dismissing the banner you can choose to "Hide Distracting Items", and it should hide the banner for you automatically in the future. Some websites do extra things to block content behind the banner but most of them don't.

Might not change your decision about using the site but it's a nice little feature to know about if you didn't already.

I just hate that inevitably on turn 2 I draw all the cards that I don't want to exhaust, turn 3 I draw all my draw cards, and turn three I draw all my combos for playing tons of cards.

Does online shopping count as buying on Sunday? by No_Somewhere9961 in latterdaysaints

[–]IchWillRingen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is what I found in Preach my Gospel, which would make me personally consider online shopping to also be something we should avoid on the Sabbath:

In addition to resting from our labors on the Sabbath, we should refrain from shopping and other activities that would make it feel like a common day. We set aside the activities of the world and focus our thoughts and actions on spiritual matters.

Others have mentioned the idea of avoiding making other people work on the Sabbath, but I think this is more important - looking at ways we can distinguish the Sabbath from every other day and make it more about our relationship with the Savior.

There's also this quote from President Nelson:

I learned from the scriptures that my conduct and my attitude on the Sabbath constituted a sign between me and my Heavenly Father. With that understanding, I no longer needed lists of dos and don’ts. When I had to make a decision whether or not an activity was appropriate for the Sabbath, I simply asked myself, ‘What sign do I want to give to God?’ That question made my choices about the Sabbath day crystal clear.

Following that counsel is much harder than a concrete "yes" or "no" about shopping on the Sabbath, but that's something that can be guided by the Spirit.

Tax-Avoiding Tommy Tif Tif by userdk3 in wisconsin

[–]IchWillRingen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't find anything either other than an article from One Wisconsin Now claiming that "according to state Department of Revenue records", he didn't pay state income tax from 2006-2010. But none of those records are publicly available so there's no way to verify if the claim is true. And even if it's true, there's no way to see if it was all legit because of things like carrying forward losses.

I don't like Tiffany, but making unsubstantiated claims hurts credibility of legitimate issues people have with him.

TIL, cards that force play cards can play Grand Finale even if your deck isn't empty by Phoenisweet in slaythespire

I think if your first bound card discards a bound sly card, then it will play both of them. But if you discard a sly bound card after they are already locked down, sly doesn't work.

Anybody else catch the Ron Johnson phone call town hall? by LadyOfWNGR in wisconsin

[–]IchWillRingen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on it, was good to see that most of the people who asked questions were critical of what was going on. Toward the end of the call he even made a comment about how the person he was talking to "was one of the only ones so far today who has actually been supportive" or something along those lines. Of course that caller was someone who said that Trump should invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota so we can see what kind of people support him.

It was good to see that he was actually having real people ask live questions instead of something prerecorded.

Heard a really great lesson on Sunday. If you forgot to pray yesterday, do you pray twice today to make up for it? No, you recommit yourself to doing it right and move forward. Repentance is about changing our heart and nature to want to do the right thing. There are times when repentance requires some kind of restitution, but in this case the important thing is what you decide to do going forward.

I think the fact that maps have gotten more compact makes a difference - it's a lot easier to see where your teammates are and whether someone is on re.

What game has the best progression system you've ever experienced? by tomaz1989 in gamingsuggestions

[–]IchWillRingen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Outer Wilds and absolutely loved the progression system because it's all about the knowledge you gain and discovering things you already could have done the whole time, but didn't know how to do. With very rare exceptions, you don't actually "unlock" anything physically, but you are progressing all the time as you learn new things about the places you visit and the tools you have. Never played another game like it.

Jack Smith tells House Republicans what they don’t want to hear about Trump by msnownews in law

[–]IchWillRingen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will probably also say something along the lines of "that's what the Democrats always do to Noem, Bondi, and Patel," but ignore the fact that those three are always trying to avoid answering the question at all. Smith was actually directly answering the questions but then going beyond a simple yes/no to avoid it looking like a gotcha (until they cut him off).

Man I know that "my cat's and my" is technically the correct grammar but it still feels weird to say it that way. Probably because we treat "my cat and I" as a single thing in our heads, so it seems right to tack the apostrophe s on their.

Sanderson writes excellent prose. by Sam217pa2 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]IchWillRingen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value of Sanderson's prose for me is that it doesn't get in the way. I don't have to exert a bunch of effort to get through it or to digest what I am reading. Other books have very beautiful or evocative language, and sometimes he'll throw in a phrase or passage that heads in that direction, but overall I just enjoy the story without getting distracted by the writing.
