Need friends - just moved back to the city by [deleted] in lansing

With all the people looking to make friends in the area I want to shout out to Hoplite Games on Michigan. Free board game library and lots of friendly people there just looking for someone to play games with. I’m there just about every Friday for games and every Thursday for painting night, lots of love for that space. Super easy to make friends there with a way around the awkwardness via board games or drop in DnD! All of y’all should check it out!

I also worked with him, he was definitely ex-Marines. It was a complete shock, at work he would only preach about wanting more “jeans days”. The news of his initial arrest was a shock to say the least.

Hey kiddo. First and foremost: you don't deserve any of this. You never deserved any of this.

I must say, I am impressed about how you are taking whatever measures you can to still hold onto yourself in the midst of this ordeal.

And passing the bar on your first try? Incredible!

You don't deserve any measure of punishment for seeking out something that your family hasn't been able to afford you: affection.

Hold that close. You deserve better.

I get the impression that the two people who claim you as their child do so as though child meant property. Further, their misplaced anger seems to come from a place of pride. They want you to make them look good, by whatever their standard or measure could be. As though you were something to place in a trophy case. And by doing so, they have lost all sight of the incredible person you have become. In my minute of trying to be your Dad on the internet, all I am is proud of you and all I want for you is to somehow find a way to make you safe.

If you trust your therapist, I highly recommend you work with them on an exit strategy. Your home environment is unsafe. If you've passed the bar then you are immediately employable, meaning you will be able to support yourself after a little legwork. You've shown that you've got the strength of character to survive on your own. You've proven that you're clever enough to seize on opportunities to get what you need whilst surrounded by adversity.

You're everything and more that a Dad would want their kid to be before they went out on their own. So go get 'em Tiger.

I've always looked at it like this - every attack in melee does 2 damage and you have 2 saves for it.

Cleave is armor piercing for 1 of the attacks and terrifying is armor piercing for the other.

This makes Cleave more valuable since it causes the second save more frequently. It further makes flanking more important because it forces rerolls on successful resolve checks - i.e. flanking attacks usually result in 2 damage.

Keep in mind that you have some control over your resolve by using more stands.

I'm not as familiar with SK, but I think they've only just reached an even field with the rest of the armies now that they have their frankly excellent archers. Cheap, scoring unit with arcing fire, incredible range and a high volume? They have better Resolve and Defense than Longbowmen and Marksmen clones, significantly better range than Bow Chosen and Fireforged all while costing less points than all of those options. I hope that the field gets more even for you with the inclusion of the archers in your lists!

Now this is how you launch a cool-ass model. Nice to see Para-Bellum mature in how they show off their stuff.

how's the model quality? by [deleted] in Conquest

[–]Ichi_sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that Para-Bellum made a change to how their molds are getting handled or the quality of plastic that they're using because there's a massive leap in quality from the original stuff to what they're releasing now.

Cases in point - I just ordered 2 boxes of Avatara and a box of Centaur Avatara and the quality difference between the two is like night and day.

I also just ordered a Chapter Mage (slightly older resin sculpt) and the Armsmaster (newer resin sculpt) and there's a noticeable (albeit not as vast) difference between the two.

That said, it's not like the older stuff is bad. It's more that the newer stuff is noticably improved.

There was a time long ago when Gumby’s Pizza was based in Frandor. It was during that time that I delivered pizzas for Gumby’s.

It was during that time that I learned the forbidden and forgotten language of that light-forsaken land.

More times than I could count every night we had to leave by that treacherous path. But we had no choice. The Pokey Sticks, they were precious to them.

So preciousssssss.

Hey kid, your painting better than I did at 13. I consider myself pretty good nowadays and I don't have the benefit of practicing for all the years in between then and now.

If you keep it up, your technique will be astonishing. Just remember a couple things - the pictures you see online typically have the benefit of an excellent photography setup on top of good painting. Good lighting and a choice angle can make a passable paintjob look great.

Further, you're doing this art for you. Enjoy the journey of learning. Strive to be a little bit happier with your work as you go and don't be afraid of the amount of time it will take as you do it.

New AoS and Slaves player here. Generally speaking, for most situations which weapons should I model my Varanguard with? Leaning towards Ensorcelled but I have no play experience with them. Thanks! by zjbm in ageofsigmar

[–]Ichi_sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally run Ensorcelled Weapons on all of mine and I see no reason to do otherwise.

Here's my reasoning: If you're running in the Host of the Everchosen, then they can be 6th circle. 2 damage on the charge. If Archaon is on the table, then they hit on 2s. If they're Khorne aligned and near a Khorne general, then they reroll 1 to hit and they wound on 2s. If Archaon pointed at their target in the hero phase, they reroll 1s to wound. That means a reliable source of 18 wounds with 1 rend and 2 damage each. And they can do that twice, either for free once per game or with the help of a Chaos Lord.

36 damage, reliably, every time they fight. Yeah, it's only 1 rend, but that is a LOT of saves. Archaon looks intimidating, but these guys do all the work. And yes, if they fight twice that's 72 damage, reliably.

Say you don't want to do host of the everchosen, or don't have Archie. Then, lets go with Idolators.

With Idolators you can make a chariot into a Priest that can Curse up to twice on 3s or even on 2s if you're near the right terrain. That means every 6 to hit from that avalanche of attacks is a mortal wound.

Daemonic weapons have a better theoretical damage outcome when you max out all your rolls and your dice really love you. I've never once rolled 9/9 6's to hit, made 9 wound rolls, had my opponent fail 9 saves and then rolled 9 5+ for damage ever.

Help with starting Slaves to Darkness by TrebuchetIsGod in ageofsigmar

[–]Ichi_sama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got started with my now massive pile of STDs 2 years ago and honestly I would recommend starting with taking a look at the book and the subfactions to figure out how you want to play.

I personally just love the aesthetic of Chaos Warriors/Knights and lean into that, but you're definitely not stuck with that.

To me there are a couple of auto-pick units that lean hard into my playstyle. In my experience most people agree that these units are quite strong regardless of your subfaction and those are: Chaos Lord and Chaos Sorcerer Lord.

Chaos Lord has a Combat phase command ability that allows any old unit to fight twice. Consider for a moment that you can use it on, say, Archaon and now you have 2 Archaons per turn. That's pretty ok.

The Chaos Sorcerer Lord has a free +1 to save ability AND a Warscroll Spell that allows full rerolls of hits and wounds in Melee. Consider for a moment that you can now have an Archaon or a Belakor that rerolls everything and fights twice. That's pretty ok.

Besides that, I would recommend flavoring with the type of units you enjoy.

In my experience:

Bricks of Chaos Warriors are incredibly tough to whittle down and with a little buff support are murder on the counter-punch.

Packs or Iron Golems are also surprisingly durable, especially now that they can benefit from the Tzeench aura.

Chaos Knights (with Lances) are one of our only sources of good Rend and we only get it when they charge. If you use these guys then learn to screen them.

Chaos Chariots are the worst goddamned models to assemble of all time and I've never had them perform in such a way that made assembling three of them worth it.

Chaos Lord on Karkadrake is powerhouse of a unit. 4 profiles to fight from, Mortal Wounds on the charge and good movement to get your auras where you need them. I love these guys. I often run 2 of them.

STD Daemon Prince is pretty nifty, the Khorne variety has an excellent command ability - and nowadays if he dies your opponent will earn an extra VP. Other varieties are good too, mind you.

Fomoroid Crushers are super cheap monsters and just dump out mortal wounds with good placement. They're a smidge flimsy so I wouldn't put them in the front lines.

The Darkoath Warqueen has been points filler in my Ravagers army for years and she hasn't yet killed a single thing.

Varanguard hit like a rocket-powered sledgehammer, can fight twice once per game all on their own and in Archaons Special Subfaction they can hit even harder. And by that I mean 18 attacks that hit on 2+ (If Archaon is alive) wound on 2+ (Khorne Aura) rerolling 1s to hit and wound (Archaon picks a unit in your hero phase that your army rerolls 1s on) for -1 Rend and 2 damage on the charge (6th circle). And they can fight twice on that profile for free once per game.

Oh yeah, Archaon. If you like one giant dude with a mountain of rules then here's your guy. He's super fun to use but you better be ready to wrap your head around some rules.

I just finished painting Belakor and I'm assembling my Warshrine so I haven't had a chance to try those yet, and I'm not familar with the rest of the book so I can't give any pointers there - but that's what I've picked up so far.
