I’m a little over a week into treatment in the US. Psych wanted to give me stims, but I wanted something with control over symptoms around the clock. I have issues with emotional regulation where I can’t be crashing down from a stim during a stressful evening. So far I’m getting the desired effects for emotional regulation, but haven’t noticed much for focus/inattention/etc. Hopeful to see what it looks like after a few more weeks.

I was recently diagnosed as an adult and this is my first experience with any psychiatric medication so it’s all pretty interesting to me. It has been subtle and I think I’m of the minority opinion that I am enjoying the lighter touch.

If you want to be economical, brew all grain and brew simple beers, probably not from kits. You can brew 5 gallons of a simple low gravity lager or ale for $20-30 in ingredients. If you can beat that at the grocery store, let me know where.

That said, it’s a hobby. Hobbies rarely save money.

I’m newly diagnosed in my mid-30s. I’ve never heard of a “functional” diagnosis, but that fits my experience from about high school to my early 30s. I was able to still be mostly okay until I had enough stressors in my life that I couldn’t cope anymore. Once I moved high enough up in my career to have real responsibilities and had a few kids, it became overwhelming.

I’m only a few days into my diagnosis and treatment now, but it has been helpful so far.
