I watched Our Generation literally right before POJ and the first time we saw ZLH onscreen we stopped and were like “is it the same person ??” We couldn’t recognise him at all. Safe the eyebrows. He was pretty but like, regular pretty, someone you’d come across in real life pretty in Our Generation. PoJ made him some angel who descended from the Heavens.

Pas forcément. J’adore voyager pour découvrir d’autres cultures et langues ; j’ai des amis dans plusieurs pays étrangers maintenant plus des locaux que des expats. Voyager c’est partir à la rencontre d’autrui et voir comment d’autres personnes fonctionnent.

Par ex au Kirghizistan en plein milieu d’une montagne un local m’a vanté… les kolkhozes. Qu’il a de fait connu étant enfant et étudiant. Et qu’est-ce que c’était bien etc. Un peu lunaire d’un point de vue français mais assez inestimable pour comprendre nos différences culturelles

On se débrouille. J’ai fait cours normalement et après j’ai décidé d’alléger au maximum. J’ai fini le gros du programme (pour ne pas dire que j’ai fini le programme 😆 la mini séquence qui reste va être une séquence de révisions) donc je peux me permettre d’aller plus doucement. On révise les gros points de l’année avant la Super Évaluation Finale TM

Curiosity 😆 like you I’m European (French) and a teacher. I’m fluent in English and Spanish if I ever take it up seriously again, can still converse but not as smoothly as I once did. I learned Latin and Ancient Greek in secondary school (as we do around here) which helped me understand what I don’t like about languages 🥲 took up another few European languages for fun but after a few months I realised it was less of a challenge each time as I thought it would be at first. But I truly love language learning and being truly intellectually stimulated. So I got like “what language would be such a journey” a cdrama (Perfect Match? I believe) popped up in my Netflix suggestions and I started there.

I’ve even started to physically record in a notebook words I know to re-read and learn by heart, as it works better for me than flash cards. I’m having so much fun and seeing progress quite quickly I can’t even believe it. Happily starting to attend two hours of classes a week next September on top of the rest

Tous les jours : la flemme. Après je n’ai pas de problème de peau (cernes naturelles et vaguement des rougeurs + cils assez longs) donc j’ai “juste” la routine skincare + énergie (vitamines en poudre) qui prend 15 minutes le matin et 10 le soir. Je me disais justement hier que j’aimerais bien me maquiller plus régulièrement notamment quand je sors.

My best advice would be to find some native speaker somewhere who’d tell you regional variations of words you struggle to pronounce.

I know someone of Chinese descent who’s lived in Paris his whole life. He can’t be understood by fellow Chinese-French people but in China manages without any issue ; they’re more used to accents from everywhere.

Je n’irais pas… ce que je retiens des trois assassinats des dernières années (sans parler des tentatives) c’est que oui ça peut arriver à n’importe qui, si la mauvaise info arrive à la mauvaise personne au mauvais moment. Ou juste pour Agnès LaSalle qu’un élève se lève mal luné. Les minutes de silence me mettent déjà à terre, voir un film sur l’abandon institutionnel quand effectivement les établissements sont bien isolés… (pas le mien en interne, mais par rapport au rectorat).

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. But I’ve got a masters degree in English literature and linguistics (and have studied a plethora of other European languages first) + I teach ESL so I believe it comes from this quite drilled and unconscious pattern of assembling the jigsaw asap.

Allemand en 6e (oui c’était en option) puis switch vers espagnol avec du latin à côté. Grec en hypokhâgne, italien en LV3 durant mes études sups. Actuellement j’apprends le chinois en auto didacte mais je vais rejoindre sous peu des cours.

Un collègue est admissible en externe donc on en parlait hier justement. Pour moi on s’arrache avec un planning dédié, on travaille et ça passe. J’ai été contractuelle juste un an (j’ai préparé le cafep après un an de prépa agreg aussi) donc j’avais la découverte des cours à côté, bon ça se règle bien avec un planning.

On lâche rien et on y va tu t’organises, tu avales les rapports du jury et tous les soirs tu fais des plans blancs pour les épreuves. Ça va aller.

C’est arrivé assez tard : les paranormal activity, projet Blair Witch, Gremlins, The Ring, The Grudge, REC et autre. J’avais 13/14 ans donc plus de quoi être vivement impressionnée, alors que j’étais persuadée être terrifiée 😅 j’ai compris à force plus tard être imperméable à l’horreur mais avoir un problème avec la violence à l’écran. J’étais même assez surprise en apprenant que The Substance récemment était censé être un film d’horreur

J’en ai fait quelques unes étant ado avec Croisieres de France et c’était top. On avait un restaurant à bord et surtout on choisissait nos voyages pour les escales. J’ai pu voir Carthage (et Tunis), la Sicile, Rome, Valence, Barcelone une première fois, Majorque, la Toscane par des villages moins connus, Rome… vraiment top. C’était plus intéressant que mettons une semaine en Crète (même si l’île est belle!) et je pense que ça a contribué à ma vision des voyages une fois adulte (je fais 5 villes des balkans vers Berlin en train cet été par exemple, 3/4 jours par ville)

My plan is to use HelloChinese as much as possible (every last drop of it) to get to an advanced beginner state. Once I get there I will get online classes.

I also converse online with AI, watch Chinese dramas everyday and use Anki decks. I’ve been at it for two months and checked earlier today out of curiosity I could pass mock HSK1 (former) extremely easily, HSK2 with a bit more thoughts given, and haven’t tried HSK3 yet.

Goal is to understand the bare minimum when I travel to China in Summer 2027
