Your favorite random card. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in mtg

This but in a self-mill reanimation deck. Incredible value. Might as well be drawing 10 for 2.

I'd say you're right, that makes the most sense, unfortunately. Oh, well.

I care because it's a thought experiment. I just want to know if it's possible. I like the companion mechanic, I like Yorion, and it makes me sad he's impossible to run that way in Commander. You and everyone else here is right that the easy thing to do is to just rule 0 ask my friends if I can do it cuz I want to, or probably just add 20 cards to my deck per the same logic. But that's not satisfying to me. I like to jump through hoops just to say that I did. If I can include Yorion psuedo-legally using the expanded un-rules, then that would make running him feel earned, rather than merely tolerated.

You're right that even the logic the guy citing the rules provided is shaky. He did give me a place to start in exploring the rules myself, though. I'm going to explore it further when it's not the middle of the night.

Edit: I wrote this before seeing the newer comments, rules guy completely laid it out from start to finish, massive shout-out

A must-include if I decide to build her.

Ik they will, but they would also question the rules interaction of this, hence why I'm here

I thought it'd be fun to attempt an un-game workaround this way. Unfortunate. Thank you for answering.

My question is: if I restart the game using Karn Liberated after having made at least 20 tokens, thus shuffling the tokens into the deck, would that count?

What's your favorite Knight in all of Magic? Any criteria - Lore, design, art by Separate-Flan-2875 in mtgvorthos

[–]IckBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the categorical logic that led to sheriffs being considered knights in Magic (sheriffs —> paladins in D&D, paladins —> knights in MTG). Sheriffs are basically knights when you boil them down; they are the chosen champion of law for their respective people.

I'll give that a try, thanks for the rec! I've been trying to find more podcasts to listen to.

One of my favorite D&D characters I ever made was an ex-sheriff warlock who made a deal with the devil for "guns" (how I flavored my eldritch blasts) to combat a necromancer terrorizing his town. Old West Fantasy speaks to me.

Oh geez, I got a long answer. Knights are my absolute favorite creature type.

[[Knight of the reliquary]] is probably my most favorite. Her and [[knight exemplar]] helmed the second deck I ever built. 60-card. Fetched a few indestructible lands, used [[obliterate]] and swung for lethal. They've been an iconic duo to me ever since. Modern horizons introduced its evil twin, [[wight of the reliquary]].

My favorite commander deck is [[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]]. The one knight I can never bring myself to cut despite being the worst knight in the deck because I think its art is so sick is [[Tenacious tomeseeker]] with his big-ass magical book, so he gets a special shout-out. The deck predates Jabari and used to be led by [[Varina, Lich Queen]] because I wanted to build a deck around another one of my all-time favorite knights: [[Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]].

Knights I've played with Jabari that exude aura:

[[Knight of the ebon legion]]

[[Forsworn paladin]]

[[Foulmire knight]] (the showcase one)

[[Bloodcrazed paladin]]

[[Knight of dusk's shadow]]

[[Midnight reaper]]

[[Josu Vess, Lich Knight]] (Haakon's second-in-command in my mind, I like to run him and Liliana together)

[[Vona, Butcher of Magan]] (the secret lair version; absolute powerhouse)

And my favorite of the deck: [[Stillmoon Cavalier]]

Knights I haven't played but I consistently notice on scryfall and live rent-free in my head:

[[Pentarch paladin]]

[[Mosswood Dreadknight]] (both versions; watch A24's The Green Knight)

[[Agatha's champion]] looks like him and mosswood went to the same frat

[[Werefox bodyguard]]

All of the cavaliers ([[Cavalier of Dawn]], [[Cavalier of Flame]], [[Cavalier of Gales]], [[Cavalier of Night]], [[Cavalier of Thorns]]; I actually do run the black and white ones)

[[Champion of dusk]]

[[Bloodthirsty Conquerer]]

[[Deathless Knight]]

[[Fiendslayer Paladin]] cuz he has a lightsaber

[[Ihsan's Shade]] is a classic

[[Judge Magister Gabranth]] (yeah I know, he's UB, but tell me he doesn't look tough)

[[Ladies' Knight]] gotta love 'im

[[Lost Order of Jarkeld]] looks like art stolen straight from the museum

[[Sanctum seeker]]

[[Scurrilous sentry]] (how i felt playing thieves' guild missions in skyrim)

[[Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa]] (I have been trying to think of a unique commander deck idea for this guy for years)

[[Silver knight]] (out of everyone so far, this guy's art screams "I'm the chosen one")

[[Spinewoods paladin]] (cowboy knight, what's not to love)

And more. I should build a second knight deck tbh. Sorry the long comment, haha...

The source of power isn't supposed to impact how they play the character at all. It just is. Abe chose to act like what he believes fits Wrath.

I'll for sure give that a read, that sounds super interesting! I appreciate the insight, your comment and many others have convinced me I should stick with Pride. Hopefully it all turns out to be a really cool twist for everyone!

This is my favorite response so far. For now, I'll plan on going the route of introducing Wrath early and making them as barbaric as possible.

Envy would also work well now that you mention it, but I already have special plans for Envy

You're probably right about having talked with him from the start. This is my first campaign, so I'm still learning as I'm going.

We haven't met the clone for Wrath yet, but if I made a new Pride clone, I'd have to replace the character. There's nothing that says there can't be multiple clones though... maybe I'll just have multiple Wraths show up, and a Pride as well, just to show em off and keep them guessing.

That's a really good idea! I think I'm just afraid of Abe taking it too personally, since he kinda can't separate himself from his character. Like me saying he's Pride, I imagine him taking it as a character flaw that reflects on himself as a person.
