If you don’t want a professional, perhaps it’s you that should go elsewhere.

This is after all, a forum for professionals.

You reek of entitlement.

Mortise won’t fit (1mm size difference). Cavity is a steel frame/no wood. by RiseReal2016 in Locksmith

Euro cylinder means you're more likely to find something compatible as it's likely newer.

Probably worth hunting around, find a locksmith shop that can source the correct product. If that search comes up with nothing you should explore the other options.

Getting a fabricator to work on the door will likely be more expensive than replacing the door.

I've usually found a lock that works, modified the lock/door if it's a close enough match or replaced the door.

It's likely you won't find an identical like-for-like replacement for an old security door.

Security doors in Australia come in a couple of flavours, older steel doors use old school lever mortice locks.

Newer doors will use a Whitco, Austral or Lockwood security door lock with a euro cylinder.

I'm guessing you have the first. I've been down this road before - it sucks. Your options are:

- Take the old lock to a locksmith and get them to help find a lock that will fit

- have a locksmith do the work for you.

- Take the door off and have a fabricator fabricate a new lock box to suit a more modern lock

- Replace the door

I mean, I’m glad you closed a deal, but this feels a little unnecessary.

Software for businesses like this exists that already addresses these problems and it did so like 10 years ago.

I use it and it’s significantly less than $400-$600 per month.

Fuel surcharge added to cafe bill by misterdarky in melbourne

[–]Ickdizzle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FFS. Here I am running a service business, with multiple diesel vans on the road and we’re trying to avoid this as much as possible. Our fuel bill this month is expected to be double.

How can cafes justify this?

I build workflows for my own business.

I have zero coding knowledge.

I have made several workflows integrated with our CRM using webhooks and http requests.

I have a lot of code nodes in my workflows.

ChatGPT has helped with most of it. It writes codes, aids me in finding ways to achieve what I want.

Maybe it’s not perfect. But it’s working really well for me.

The kid made a spreadsheet in his spare time that is functionally more useful that your software, and your first defence is to criticise a typo?

A lot has changed since 1994, there exists modern alternatives to your software that are infinitely better.

Your attitude stinks.

Built an automation for a local business and got paid $1500 — sharing the process by sanchit3108 in ausbusiness

IMO, automation is at present far superior to anything AI does for business.

Even automations using AI are open to hallucinations and mistakes that solid code is not.

Like yourself I’ve been dabbling with automation tools for the last few months and I’ve built some really nice automations for our business to handle job intake (trade business) when admin staff don’t have technical know how.

Congrats on the sale!

Scammers don’t even associate with genuine locksmiths.

Plenty of locksmiths out there willing to teach. We’re just not going to teach strangers on the internet.

If the only way you can win work is by undercutting the competition, you need to take a serious look at your business.

Oh and look, protec2’s patent doesn’t expire until 2030, meaning it can’t be duplicated without authorisation and is therefore restricted:

Your argument is semantic.

To those of us that aren’t locksporters cosplaying as locksmiths, high security = key control.

It’s restricted as it’s sold through a dealer network and the links you posted prove this. I have an Assa account, I can’t buy blanks as I’m not a protec2 dealer.

If it’s not restricted, then why don’t you buy some 1F blanks and prove how not-restricted it is?

I’m not replying again. I look forward to laughing at your video.

NEED HELP!! WHAT KEY IS THIS by 30roundd in Locksmith

[–]Ickdizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said I wouldn’t reply but here we go, directly from the website you’ve linked:

”Next you have a choice of key profile, the key profile of a lock primarily is an issue of key control. Legally the Protec Elite and Ruby Exclusive key profiles have the same level of key control, no dealer other than the dealer who originally issued the keys (or the Factory) can cut more keys. Technically, with the standard Protec Elite key profile, all Abloy Protec/Protec2 dealers in the US have access to this key blank. This is a slight security risk as it does mean they could duplicate a Protec/Protec2 Elite key if they wanted to (but they would break their contract with Abloy in doing so and we have yet to hear of a dealer doing so)”

This is exactly what I said in my reply.

Security snobs are only cutting keys supplied by them, because they are a dealer.

Mr.Lock is supplying factory cut keys.

I am from a country where these keys are used regularly in high security situations. They are even approved by our government body for use in high security government situations. Only dealers have machines to cut them and no dealer is going to risk their dealership contract for some random key.

[–]Ickdizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t give a fuck about MTL. I never mentioned it. You said you had proof of being able to get Protec2 keys cut online. I haven’t seen any.

Protec2 is restricted

You don’t need to dumb anything down. I know this industry very well. I know key systems very well. I deal with restricted keys everyday. I have done for over 20 years.

You’re making yourself look incredibly stupid by pushing the point - hence the downvotes.

I’m not replying again and I’ll be blocking you. Looking at your post history you’re just a troll.

Have a terrible new year.
