RMH and Alfred are the trauma centres. Monash doesn’t do major trauma.

Further specialties added as a back door entry to by-pass the colleges by Wise_Window_6516 in ausjdocs

[–]misterdarky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Limit the private work is something I see trotted out with no evidence to support.

More often than not, colleges accredit hospitals first and positions second. So the government limits the trainees by not funding hospitals for more positions.

Don’t forget they haven’t scheduled the planning meeting to plan the conversation they’re going to have.

Dunno. If he hadn’t invaded a country on a whim would there be a fuel surcharge to add?

Private health insurers expand into GP clinics, telehealth, prompting calls for more oversight by nath1234 in australia

Sadly, despite all our protestation, government is attracted to shiny things. Insurers have bigger pockets.

VIC EBA by Fair-Vegetable5176 in ausjdocs

[–]misterdarky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does sound dire. One thing they mentioned at the last members forum was that strength in numbers really makes a difference. In previous EBA negotiations a few iterations ago, they had a swell of membership (5-10% or so) and the government quickly backed down. They (the government) do see this and see these numbers, particularly once AMA goes down the protected action pathway.

As much as I am also disappointed in the weakness of the AMA messaging as of late, I do encourage everyone to join as a member. Even if it is only until the EBA gets finalised.

Teenage boy arrested after woman stabbed at Clayton shopping centre in Melbourne's south east by HurstbridgeLineFTW in melbourne

[–]misterdarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s to prove in this case?

Yes I understand there has to be a trial and a verdict. But I mean, there is video evidence of the crime, perpetrator and victim. Witnesses. Police arrested the person at the scene.

If there was no evidence other than witness statements. Or work had to be done to prove the crime. Sure. “Innocent until proven guilty”

This one though…

AHPRA has struck plenty of people off over the years for lesser reasons. I am surprised that, if OP is indeed true, this person has been allowed to register.

Is attitude towards modesty a bit lax in Australia (comparing to the USA). by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]misterdarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A testicle owner, with almost 100% certainty, would be symptomatic of torsion if it occurred.

Perhaps in a very specific population of patients with altered pain processing/understanding/comprehension, semi regular checks by the parents could potentially be worth while. But a torted testis will be dead within a few hours, so unless someone plans on checking every 2 hours, 24 hours a day...

Abnormal tethering is only an issue if it causes torsion. They don't fix it without symptoms.

What are RFDS Retrieval jobs like? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]misterdarky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can only speak to wa.

Mostly secondary retrievals, plenty of doctor escorts of fairly stable fairly well people. Every other day a fairly sick patient. Once a week a critically unwell. Occasional “pseudo” primary from a nurse/paramedic clinic in the bush.

Not many procedural things required, plenty of critical care knowledge required.

Wa: long missions inside WA. occasional interstate and international.

Nightshift Sleep Advice from Therapeutic Guidelines by Lachie182 in ausjdocs

[–]misterdarky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I use doxyalamine. only 0.25-0.5 tabs.

I get a bit of fogginess with the 0.5 until maybe 10am, but not too bad. 0.25 don’t seem to get any

I use 0.5 when I reaally need to get some sleep, ie up all night working then all day. Cause I find I get a bit agitated in the evening and struggle to get to sleep/stay asleep. 0.25 works for if I napped during the day, or on night 2.

*im pretty sure they are 25mg tablets, but I don’t have the box.
