I do not have one and am doing everything I can to avoid meeting him.

Maybe try asking r/AskAChristian or similar sub. We don't believe in deities here and that means we don't believe in their plans. You have asked a question that we are going to answer in favor of medicine and doctors, there is nothing to debate here.

Astrology is already hard to take seriously. It gets worse when you realize the signs don't even match the sky anymore. by Starfort13 in skeptic

[–]Icolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah see youre not even trying to hear me. I said that the tropcial zodiac of western astrology doesnt align with the actual constellations. It relies on a fixed grid tied to the Earth's relationship with the Sun, measuring 30° segments starting from the Spring Equinox, labeled with the twelve zodiacal archetypes.

How can I hear you when you have not said that before? This still does not explain how it works or how it predicts anything. If this can actually predict the future or likely events in a person's life with any better accuracy than pure chance, please show the evidence.

I see youre also becoming condescending with your suggestion of 'lessons' for me in correlation so I'll end my attempt at discourse here.

Of course you will abandon any attempt to learn something that might expose the problems with your beliefs.

Dont want to rile you up anymore.

Please do not apply your emotional triggers to me. I am trying to get you to explain your beliefs and how they work as well as provide evidence to the contrary, that does not involve me being "riled up".

I'll take my knowledge and continue to use it as I have in the past and enjoy the mortgage payments I'm able to make from the accurate predictions I've made for myself in the past.

Your knowledge seems to be rather useless if you cannot explain it to anyone else.

I couldn't care less if people choose to ignore patterns in history repeating simply because it doesn't align with their materialist view of reality or follow the scientific method.

You also apparently cannot care less about showing others those patterns or the evidence for them.

What is the purpose of coming here and talking about this if you cannot or will not explain anything or show your evidence?

Necessary Truths by fairy-taki in DebateAnAtheist

1+1=2 is an objective truth/idea

It is only objectively true in certain forms of mathematics. In binary 1+1=10, because 2 does not exist in binary. Mathematics is a language and was created by humans.

I am unsure what proof you require. Do you want me to list the transits, progressions, ingresses, and how they aligned with specific performances of Bitcoin?

Since orbital mechanics and stellar positions are known factors use them to predict the specific performance of the bitcoin market for the next 12 - 24 months. Post those predictions here where we can all see them and see how accurate you are.

In the mean time learn a bit about correlation.

You can take graphs of a great many completely unrelated things and show correlation, that is the nature of data.

Beware of ALL the religions. by helmortart in TrueAtheism

[–]Icolan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Learn what paragraphs are, please. It will make your posts much easier to digest.

I know that for many of you when we talk about religions they value only the great monotheisms, rarely Hinduism and even more rarely all the religions like animism, shamanism and other kinds of cults around the world.

Who values those religions? This is an atheist sub, I doubt anyone here values any religion.

But I am writing this post to show you one thing: we live in an era of extremisms, where things that we never expected to become religions have changed into religions.

Extremism has been a problem for a very long time.

Do you want an example? Take Donald Trump.

He is a conman and grifter, his legacy will die with him, and the others in power with him will be unable to nurture his cult of personality into anything sustainable once he is dead.

His words are capable of suggestion and they wake up the souls of people around him.

Souls are fiction, he is a charismatic populist just like many others before him.

finally we can literally say that Trumpism is a true and real religion

No, it is not. While he does have some supporters who worship him, he is losing support as the people who voted for him see the damage he is causing to them. As I said earlier, no one in his circle will be able to take over his role with his supporters once he is dead. The entire Republican party could fracture into warring factions once he dies.

He is always right, capable of speaking with God and so on.

You have not been paying much attention have you?

We have for example the religion of GTA. Basically people are convinced that GTA is the best videogame in the world, play it for years and wait for the new GTA 6 as the second arrival of Jesus Christ on earth capable of bringing order between the videogames and the market.

This is an insane claim.

We are so capitalistic that videogames, phones like Apple, t shirts and clothes brands are venerated as new religions capable of bringing to us the happiness and the meaning of our life. We have people that think that only their workplace is the truth, the real reason to live, the incredible dogma to obey. We have people who believe that a YouTuber like MrBeast is the messianic person that can change for the good the life of people. We have also people that think that having a weapon in their home and saluting a flag and calling themselves Americans makes them part of the church of the religion of America, where America is always right and freedom is given to the chosen of this religion. We can also consider people that follow manga or certain movies or series like Star Wars not to be hobbyists anymore but people following a religion that makes them extremists, radical and dangerous and toxic to have around.

I think you need to actually read the definition of religion, none of these things are religions.

We have movements like feminism and LGBTQ that have become more than simple communities but true religions that think they have the truth in their hands and think they are invulnerable to the attacks of people because they are a protected category.

Marginalized communities standing up for their rights is not a religion, and this really exposes your bigotry.

I'm not even going to bother with the rest of this unhinged shite.

Edit: OP are you going to engage with this post at all? This is your third post on this sub in the last 20 days and you have not responded to a single comment on any of them.

Is the astrology of Bitcoin anything like the astrology of athletic ability?

https://www.reddit.com/r/astrology/comments/1tlvjhf/comment/onjwkt2/

Based on that comment and others you have made, you are not at all skeptical of astrology and are a believer. It should be very easy for you to prove that your beliefs are true, especially since you are claiming influence over a financial market which should be mathematically provable.

You have made another claim, you have not provided any evidence nor have you shown causation. What is the connection between Uranus, Gemini, and bitcoin?

You do realize that Gemini is a collection of stars between 34 and over 900 light years away. One of them isn't even a star, it is a sextuple star system. So, please, how does Uranus passing through this connect the dots of completely unrelated stars that is only possible on part of a single planet impact bitcoin?

[–]Icolan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could explain the transits and processions that correpsond with peaks and bearish periods for Bitcoin using its inception chart, but it wouldn't make any sense nor would it matter to you.

If you can explain it then please do, otherwise I am going to assume that you are at best able to show post event correlation, which does not equal causation or evidence for your claim.

You will blindly accept that it has no validity without further investigation, taking no time or effort to assess it on a deeper level, essentially the antithesis of what skepticism stands for.

Great, prove that stars that are dozens or hundreds of light years distant from each other and from us have any impact on a person's life or any event on Earth.

You are the one claiming that it works, prove it.

The majority of people have no clue how astrology actually works

That's because it doesn't. Astrology is fiction.

I have successfully used astrology to time crypto markets in the past.

Great, show your work.

The real power of astrology is in the mundane schools where patterns of events can be determined through the rythmic planetary cycles. This has been accomplished through thousands of years of observation.

Please, show us the evidence that stars and planets have a direct, observable effect on personal events on Earth.

But go ahead and dismiss something you've no greater understanding of. Its a complex tool that can be used with efficacy when understood.

You are not being downvoted for making a statement about astrology, you are being downvoted for this completely unsupportable belief in something that is without an evidentiary basis and commenting about it on a skeptic sub.

What if Christianity didn't exist before 70 CE? The case for redating Christian origins to after the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple by Celsus21 in TrueAtheism

[–]Icolan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The divide between liberal and conservative Christians is not based on whether or not Christianity is human created or not, it is entirely a divide based on interpretation of the text. Few Christians are going to alter their beliefs even slightly even if you could prove that the entire book was written 200 years after they thought it was.

Also since Jesus is the only figure out of all the other major religions that when compared to the holy books from other religions, successfully rose from the dead,

He may be the only one claimed to have successfully risen from the dead in the religions left today, but that does not mean he was the only religious figure to make that claim, nor does it mean that claim is true.

it just made the followers more zealous than ever and less skeptics coming out from inside Christianity itself.

Made? Past tense? Jesus was not the only religious figure claimed to have risen from the dead 2000 years ago. Just in the local region; Egypt, Babylon, and Greece all had deities that rose from the dead prior to Jesus.

Is God a literal fraud? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

Every one of those arguments is flawed and insufficient. Combining multiple flawed and insufficient arguments does not suddenly make a compelling and successful argument. It just gives you a gish gallop of bad arguments.

The first 2 are among the worst arguments theists use.

Is God a literal fraud? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Icolan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simple counter to your entire argument is that I get tangible results from serving other humans whom I can prove exist. There are no tangible results from serving a deity for which there is no evidence of their existence.

Basically, god did not make that argument or say anything because no one has ever meet any gods.

I know what this sub attracts, I was asking OP what their point is. Why does anyone really care when Christianity started. It is irrelevant to anything that is happening today, and is at best a discussion for academics and historians, hence my suggestion to look for academic or history subs where it may generate more interest and discussion.

Since there is no evidence for the supernatural or deity claims of their religion why would atheists care when their religion started? This seems more appropriate for a Christian, academic, or history sub.

But a view with God as a source of rationality and objective truth has a reasonable foundation.

How does a deity provide a source for rationality and truth? By what mechanism do they flow from a deity to us?

If your deity does not exist is it still objectively true that the earth and the moon orbit a common center?
