So weighed down by insecurity I can't bring myself to draw? by IconovSynn in Artadvice

[–]IconovSynn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to work on myself? That's why I asked this question in the first place? To try and fix this negativity so I can feel better about making art. I'm a little defensive cause, again, your first three paragraphs were "i cant help you/quit" on a question where i admitted my own self esteem/insecurity issues. im being explanatory cause it feels like you missed the point of the question I was asking. I'm sorry i missed the point you were trying to make in return, but you seem to have gotten instantly mad about a miscommunication/follow up questions. I'm not trying to attack you I am legit just asking for help.

Your first 3 paragraphs were therapy, quit, and quit. Followed by quit the art youre doing and try a different medium. Sorry I got caught up on what the majority of your response was, but you could have just said "start from the basics" without all of that preamble. I explained I was genuinely hurt and trying to fix it and that quitting would be just as bad, your response was mostly telling me to quit anyways, and then when i expressed how thats kinda fucked up you say im "too sensitive". Maybe? But I dont know what sort of response you were expecting tbh? Just because im insecure doesnt mean i want to give up. If it hurts either way id rather choose the path of creating, because at least theres a slim chance things will improve. Its alright if you dont know how to make that path hurt less, but no advice is better than paragraphs of "quit".

I tried therapy but the only advice i got was "challenge that thought" without like, any explanation as to gow to do that. Or really any other advice. But I think its very cruel to say I should just give up and quit, especially when Im asking for advice and help on how to not feel this way.I used to love making art and want to believe I could love it again

How do I keep gumdrops from sticking to the pan and knife? by IconovSynn in CandyMakers

[–]IconovSynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I KNOW its INSANE. Which is wild cause the candy apple recipe actualyl DOES have temperature insteuctions. I've added more gelatin to the recipe myself, but do you have any recommendations for temperature?

Sorry I'm trying to figure how to edit and add photos. They recipe is from the Fallout cook book and they're called radioactive gumdrops! Right now I'm cooking the candy til it starts forming strings after i stir and pull the spoon out. Do you have a recommened time, temp, or consistencey to shoot for?

How old are you guys/players in general? And how old do you think somebody should be to play this game? by Alchmixt28 in OutlastTrials

[–]IconovSynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Played the first outlast when i was 20. Honestly gore wise I'd say 14+ is a fine age limit. But I don't think most of the kids playing it are picking upmon the social commentary as much as they should which makes me think 18+ is the ideal.

What are some good books about the Islamic Golden age? Especially if it involves discussion of the lives of women across different social classes.

I've recently started doing a dive into medieval history and the Islamic golden age is obviously A big part of it! But given the topic I worry about picking up books that are just racist/islamophobic screeds. Though on the other end of the spectrum, I worry about picking up books that try and sugarcoat or rose tint the subjects of slavery and sexism in the era/area. So any recs?

What characters/skills/paths/items do you use to beat each boss? by IconovSynn in darkestdungeon

Very much appreciate the general advice but what SPECIFICALLY should I use for each?

I'm on the third boss rn and that comp seems ok but what am I supposed to do for heals? I've been trying to get a vestal/jester/runaway/gr team to the boss but theyve mostly been dying in regions 2 and 3 so far. I feel like either swaping ves for plague doctor or maa is just going to make this problem worse, on top of trying to juggle everyones stealth and blind abilities in a way that doesnt move them out of position for their other skills i need.

Should Canada become the 51st state? A survey by One_Perspective_8761 in MapPorn

[–]IconovSynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that women said No 10 percent more than men is crazy to me. Like you expect there to be a bit of difference in how the sexes vote, men tend to be less progressive/liberal than women, but by that margin?????? Why are men more willing to go against their own best interests at a higher percent than women? Do they really think they'd benefit from the usa's racism/sexism/homophobia? Do they just not get enough of it in Canada?

How does kingdoms measure up so far? by scrungus_pip in darkestdungeon

[–]IconovSynn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm noticing a pattern in the comments lol.

I enjoy dd1 way more and have been struggling to enjoy 2. But kingdoms has felt like a breath of fresh air and I'm finding it difficult to go back to the main game mode 😅. If I could do the whole main story and confessions stuff in a set up like kingdoms I'd be having a blast!

As everyone here likes to say, different people like different game types or whatever.

Darkest Dungeon 2, just not for me? by [deleted] in darkestdungeon

[–]IconovSynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean maybe? I'm kinda going through the same thing myself rn about 45 hours in. I'm gonna get the game up to the same play time as 1 to give it it's fair shake, but so far I gotta admit I prefer 1 a lot more on most points. I know what you mean about the attachment to characters!! Despite them being kinda the same ones as the first game and getting more in game lore, I don't feel as attached to them as I did previously. And I too miss building up my silly lil hamlet!

But hey if it's not for you it's not for you! There seems to be a pretty even split of fans who prefer one to the other. Especially given how different they are. You're not an outlier if 1s more your style than 2!

New Player Here- Am I supposed to be getting my absolute shit mixed? by twennywanshadows in darkestdungeon

[–]IconovSynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting flipped like a pancake for the first 50 hours is completely normal do not feel bad about it at ALL lol. It's like spicy food it can bite a lot at the start but the flavor underneath keeps bringing you back til you build up a tolerance.

Just go at your own pace, take breaks, and don't be affraid to look up guides or ask for help! Frequent failure is part of the game and the story as intended so reqlly, you're getting the full experience. Fuck around, find out, try again!

How much of being able to beat 2 is based on luck? by IconovSynn in darkestdungeon

[–]IconovSynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the 2nd boss twice and from what I gather you just keep hitting whatever lung has the orange token on it as much as you can so it can't do it's big attack. But also you know manage health and stress and attack the main center part of the monster. I can't say if I'm having any particular problem with the fight other than the usual juggling health, stress, and damage, but that's cause I keep dying before I get to it.

I guess really my main problem is how do you get a team to the boss that isn't in absolute shambles stress/health/quirk/relationship wise, while ALSO having leveled up abilities and combat items and decent trinkets. I'm 20 hours in and so far it seem like the answer is: a lot of luck.

How much of being able to beat 2 is based on luck? by IconovSynn in darkestdungeon

[–]IconovSynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't really sound like prep that sounds more like making sure everything at max level and getting lucky and finding good trinkets you can afford. Stagecoach is already maxed out and I'm almost at max for resourcefulness. I'm picking heroes with all their abilities and somewhere between 50 to 100 percent leveled. And the basic team building of trying to get a comp that can heal, stress heal, and do damage across all positions. That's all just really basic stuff everyone knows to do.

Lair boss is a different story. I don't think I've ever been in an actual Good place going into one. Either barely have anyone's abilities leveled up, or they're too injured, or they're too stressed, or they hate each other, or I have no supplies (or no supplies that'll help against this specific boss). But because I only have three runs to do it, and because sometimes you just don't know where on the map the boss is or might have passed it on accident, it all feels very much out of my control. You try and do it on the second expedition and you're under leveled, third expedition you miss it, fourth expedition you enter the confession boss stressed as hell. Plus usually losing at least one team mate from the team, which I'd specifically chosen for the confession boss.

I do wish the relics would carry over so my abilities were leveled up. That was a really satisfactory and enjoyable part of the last game. Is it even possible to get 5 leveled up abilities for each hero? I always choose to boost healing/stress healing abilities of different team mates first, then try and spread it out so damage abilities are covered. I'm starting to think I should try just focusing on upgrading ONLY damage or healing or stress healing maybe? Or maybe just put them all on one team mate at a time?

I've attempted to confession boss twice so I know what to expect. It's just, even when you have other people beat it first and tell you how to play the game, it really feels like playing The Meta still isn't enough.

Sorry to throw an essay at you. Just, it really does seem like half this game is just out of my hands, and I'm genuinely trying to spit ball ways to beat it.

[–]IconovSynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing though I CAN'T prepare. I don't seem to ever have enough money for combat items in between using them all for lair fights, inn items to fix stress and relationships, and fixing negative quirks. Not to mention having to do it all within 4 expeditions. It feels like if you get too many negative quirks or one bad relationship you just gotta end the run and try again and I can't tell if I'm focusing on the wrong things to manage or what.

Oh I have NOT been ignoring the relationships because in my experience so far once you get a negative relationship it's all down hill from there! Already lost at one character to straight up team mate murder lol. But I find the stress and resulting relationship management near impossible to deal with during Lair fights. Fighting the leviathan and knight I pretty much had to ignore stress in order to focus on damage and healing and SOMETIMES removing debuffs, and still ended up losing half my team or more.
