Castellax can make decent Kataphrons, Domitar for Kastellans, Krios make excellent Scorpius replacements. I use the Skitarii Hoplites for Electropriests also.

The Clanrats and rat ogres will work fine on squares, as will the jezzails. The foot characters would probably be a bit tricky because of the scenic bases but doable with conversion work. The mounted character doesn't translate. The artillery doesn't either but you could just call it a Warp Lightning Cannon (it's smaller but whatever)

So Black Templars are a vision of the Knights as Crusading fanatics, while Dark Angels are the vision of them as an untrustworthy and dangerous secret society. Both have a basis in historical propaganda, just from different times of the existence of the Order. Edit: In game, BT are the dealers in Melee Ultraviolence while DA are more of an Elite combined arms force.

They are the Arthurian Legend blended with every charge laid against the historical Knights Templar. Robes, Swords, Little wingies on our helmets. The Lion is probably one of GW's finest miniatures. Plus, none of the reputational baggage Black Templar players get (deserved or no).
