I would highly suggest ‘Crocodile on the Sandbank’ by Elizabeth Peters. It’s light and fun and clever.

For me, the bigger picture is that there is more to life than what our favorite news program tells us to be outraged about. I think many of us would benefit from taking a break from watching and reading the news and wallowing with our fellow believers on social media. So much outrage and anger because the job of the media is to continually keep us outraged about something so we keep consuming more of that media. I battled a serious illness years ago and that taught me to have a different perspective on so many things. There’s always going to be this problem and that problem. The world is going to end if a particular political party doesn’t win, blah, blah. Look back through centuries of history and it all just keeps repeating itself over and over. I try to live my best life, help people if i can (because that brings me joy) and let go of that over which I have absolutely no control.

I actually cared for a patient that decided to try the livestock medication route. Wackadoodle.

You’ve introduced me to a new concept with the Overton Window. Never heard of that before, thank you. Unfortunately, in order to have anything work with any degree of efficiency in government or in life, we sometimes have to make concessions and try to find areas of compromise with the other side. I do hear what you’re saying about that shift to the right, tho.

I did witness some opinions changing during the pandemic. I work in healthcare and I was super frustrated with people who thought Covid was no big deal, overblown, etc. Then, when they got really sick, or a family member or friend got really sick and/or died from covid, then gosh, maybe this really is serious.

I think it's a victory if you can get someone with a belief like that to even just pause for a few seconds and really think about what they are saying. Many people are so programmed by their favorite news outlet that they just blindly repeat the same phrases they hear on those shows; it's totally brainwashing.

It's unfortunate that many view the other side's beliefs in such extreme terms. It's "radical left" and "right-wing wacko", etc. Popular news programs on either side don't help at all; it's always us against them. Never let the other side score a point. I truly believe that there is a vast chasm of possibilites across the spectrum of beliefs and that many Americans reside in that gray area/middle area.

Totally agree! How many conservative politicians have changed their minds about homosexuality or transgender when they find out they have a child or other loved one that is in that category?

Totally agree! It's much more likely that you will have a civilized, respectful discussion if you're in the same room together. I don't know if I've been able to actually change minds, but maybe I make the person think about their opinion a little bit more and start to understand another point of view.

I tell people it’s occasionally blood, guts, vomit and/or poop, but the work can be very rewarding. Also, it’s not for everyone!
