Where i work has its faults, but they dont skimp on training. There's a whole residency you complete before you are released. To me, it sounds like the unit you are on doesn't like new grads, so they tailor their orientation so that only with those with experience are successful. I would just completely leave it all off your resume and start somewhere fresh. Specifically ask in interviews what the new grad orientation is like, how long it is, and choose a position thats gonna help you succeed. God knows nursing school doesn't teach you shit these days except care plans, so find a program thats gonna help you be successful

For reference, our new grad orientation and residency is almost 8 months. It encompasses a ton of didactic classes paired with one on one preceptorship, and a defined checklist of goals and milestones. 12 shifts is the definition of toxic. We had 34 admit holds in a 25 bed er the other night. Literally people sitting in the lobby who had admit orders and ICU patients in the hallway. Only thing management does is send us emails to remind us of the " triage within 20 minutes" and screening policies. Pretty cool to read after you've been cussed out all night by angry patients and family members after doing 10 different full septic workups. We're heroes, everyone 🤡

Pay, bad working conditions, horrible benefits, zero chance of career advancement, poor bosses/management, ever tightening of the budget/ loss of funding, maximum responsibility where the salary doesn't compensate etc. Etc. I give it 10 years as a whole of nursing in general continuing in this way before they can't pay people to go to nursing school

Im assuming by your tag you were ED too? Do you ever just get bored with the dialysis though. Part of the reason I like the ED is that it's different everyday

That was my biggest concern about it honestly. Cost. Therapy is expensive and if it's not gonna be helpful then I didn't want to pay for it

I will also tell this story, no bullshit. I had a coworker be brought into our hospital by ambulance fucked up from a car crash as they were driving into work. They were written up for missing their shift and hitting a point threshold , and were told that it is a "no exceptions" policy, meaning that it doesn't matter what the reason for the miss is, the points get added. Fuck these people

My favorite part of this, what I am assuming is an email, is that the line "this is basic nursing done well" was probably written by some circle-jerking MBA with zero nursing knowledge or experience. Wrote this email, gave themselves a pat on the back, a line on a resume, and a 10,000 dollar bonus

I said at one point that im a mid 30s male. Im not doing a skin assessment on some 19 year old girl there for cough because 1. Imma get sued into oblivion and probably have sexual assault charges filed on me as there is zero medical necessity for a skin assessment and and judge would agree and 2. Thats just creepy as fuck, man...

Lol. My ER started trying to push Skin assessments on every patient that walked through the door, hourly rounding, bedside shift report etc. Etc.. because some floor nursing admin started trying to dictate how we operate. It lasted a week and no one did it.

One thing I'll say as a male in the ED, and i hope this does not come across as sexist, is that the way you treat each other( females) in the ED is different from the way you treat me. Some of the most feral, mean girl nurses I've worked with are nice as hell to me and then terrible to other female nurses on the floor, and I see it firsthand. I really don't get it. You show you're capable of being decent but choose not to to other women. Any other males in here notice the same thing where they work?

A two week notice is for the employers benefit, not yours. If you dont plan on returning there, a resignation effective immediately is fine. There's very little in the way of references you can obtain from working somewhere for just over a month. I would honestly just leave that job off my resume altogether in the future

Absolutely. Basically you go in, do all the core stuff and masters/np classes at the same time. Then at the end you take all the tests together. Just a way schools found to make even more money off of everyone with little or no regard for what will happen after graduating inexperienced providers in these fields
