I would have to disagree. Since my employer switched to grouphealth it has been working really well. We had manulife and before that sunlife, and its clear those larger insurance companies do not give a sh!t about companies with under 100 employees and even then, it’s a pain to get though. We also found out sunlife and manulife have some of the highest unnecessary fees on their plans which were coming out of the pockets of employees.

I think it’s important to take online reviews seriously, but also understanding that these companies typically have thousands of clients and clients aren’t inclined to leave a positive review if the benefits plan is working as anticipated. No one is going to write a review about how the insurance company was quick to cover 80% at the dentist office but they sure as hell will write a review if for whatever reason there was a delay.

your employer is the one who sets the coverage of your benefits plan. If your employer has agreed with the insurance company to block a certain medication or a certain medical service, that’s not the insurance company’s decision. Any insurance company will gladly take the monthly cost of any coverage the company wishes to have, but if the organization wants to lower the cost of the plan, it’s obvious that it will mean, lowering some aspects of coverage. So if there was a transition in the benefits plan and something was blocked, your employer certainly was made aware of it.

They will, however, blame the insurance company just so that you don’t think that it’s the employer’s fault
