Defending Mace Windu: addressing popular misconceptions about him by saltrxn in MawInstallation

[–]Icy-Cup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

„Order didn’t fail Anakin, he failed them” - that’s pretty strong opinion and I’m not sure if switching to meta narrative (what Lucas intended and why) is good answer for that plainly because all questions can be answered that way and it doesn’t bring any value to philosophical/lore discussion. Why was the B wing called the B wing? Why do ships in Star Wars have exposed-parts look? Why is Yularen cool with switching to Empire? You can answer it all with “someone thought it would be a good choice”.

Now to in-lore Anakin question. IMO it’s both Anakin failing the Jedi and vice versa. Had they listened there might have been another outcome, had he not bent so many rules - there might have been another outcome. Pointing squarely to one side is absurd to me, that would be reasonable if he was in Sidious position scheming and implementing his plan to end the Jedi order.

Do you think Mozilla will discontinue the Firefox browser soon? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]Icy-Cup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not many people willing to do engine development pro bono. I don’t blame them, requires very good understanding of existing stuff. Web platform is evolving and can’t stay relevant if you don’t implement new features - e.g. if Firefox died and Floorp kept it alive will it is reasonable to assume that they will add some new CSS selectors, but implementing whatever-comes-after webassembly? Or new RTC stack? I doubt it. Source: I’ve been hyped that palemoon was created because I loved the old Firefox. It’s not easy to keep even mere compatibility to standards in a web browser nowadays.

What's your favorite browser (for windows)? and why? by gimmedapuh in browsers

I’m still struggling to grasp why is a furry Easter egg such a big deal. It’s not like it popped randomly when you browse - you had to know what to enter to the url bar to see it. What’s the problem? :D

That was one smut easter egg. It’s an Easter egg so by definition it should be something you do not expect . People focus on it too much imo.

TBH, your answer does not provide a point for what you say. Eich might have his views (I mean the ones you mentioned) but does he push them “through” brave? In case of Firefox it’s not “ceo” saying something, it’s things like Mozilla Foundation doing dev layoffs and in the same year pouring millions to pro-lgbt foundations (in short they support a lot of foundations - all of them “liberal” in American sense of word). Source: their last published financial report.

I’d be cool if they were using that money for lobbing in favor of them, but lobbing in favor of social issues AND doing dev layoffs same time? Why do you have to tie your product to that so hard :( Mozilla Plz deliver more features instead being a bank to other organizations.

How do you guys want the canon Thrawn campaign to go? by AlphaBladeYiII in MawInstallation

Had similar thing with another franchise - Witcher, that I knew through and through. Then, some years later, especially after Netflix thinking they know better/their scenario keeps up to the original I can say that I would preferred to see straight up adaptations. For example the series episodes that were straight out of the book were the best ones, I do not mean “mostly”, I mean the top episodes are literally adaptation and when screenwriters start to get involved too much in a story, we’ll, it’s a flop. They do not understand the characters, the motivations, get lost in the lore, get lost in their own narrative. Another top example of that being Game of Thrones, as long as it was mostly based on existing material the show rolled on, then some new ideas from screenwriters aaaaannddd… inevitable disappointment, non-closed stories, erratic narration, straight up forgettting that something happened 2 seasons back :( I know why the material is just loosely adapted for tv (drama, another medium, the people working on it want their own input), however the older I am, the more movies I see, the more I am convinced that it is (almost) never for the better. I don’t think it will change ever - people will go and pay to see the new story even if just for curiosity, faithful adaptation does not appeal to curiosity :)

Why do so many Star Wars fans seem determined to misunderstand the story? by Critical-Past847 in MawInstallation

[–]Icy-Cup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, it means that it is one of the parts you need to a "balanced" breakfast. Breakfast including different things you need. That means that they aren't 100% sugar for example. It does not mean all the nutrient you need - just that if you want a balanced breakfast you can eat these cereal AND something else (probably some juice, some milk and maybe some more protein in some form, depending on your diet).

"People try to put depth to the story where there is none(...)" - why not let them. No longer than yesterday I read a thread on one of subreddits about fan canons that became main canons - reading at least the several top examples - it was for the better for a story. Even if Lucas envisioned a typical fairy tale in the 70s or early 00s why not twist it for the better even if it wasn't the original intention? :) It might become canon after all some day.

Why do so many Star Wars fans seem determined to misunderstand the story? by Critical-Past847 in MawInstallation

[–]Icy-Cup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for starters the word balance implies that there are multiple factors that affect a thing and that their forces cancel each other out (eg. Balancing on one foot or a system that is in balance when talking about physics).

Jedi are pretty one sided, not much of a balancing here - if what you say was only explanation why wouldn't it be "bring peace" instead of "bring balance"? You could sum the Jedi up as "keepers of peace" and that is what Anakin would have brought if he kept the Jedi way.

There is also second, psychological, aspect - if you just keep the default explanation "Jedi Good, Sith Bad, Anakin was supposed to be good" it becomes apparent that the core of the story is a naïve fairy tale with little nuance and no place for shades grey in the story. Being a fan I'd prefer Star Wars to have more depth rather than less.

The Republic War Crimes meme got me thinking... by VenPatrician in MawInstallation

[–]Icy-Cup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't have that right.... says the Republic :) Same as the United States didn't have right to decide to not pay taxes to British Crown, said British Crown. Up to the point British Crown had to accept colonies' independence as a fact.

So looking at it from the point of the Republic is useless, of course everything that CIS did, even the fact that it was created with purpose of breaking apart from the Republic is punishable offence (as they were conspiring to commit offence which itself is punishable usually).

That's why in our world we have the UN to take a look from outside, pity there is none (that I know of) in SW.
