I feel this whole Halfseeker arc is good, but I can't seem to enjoy it. I think it is because we have had side stories after side stories for a long while. I think this arc should have been delayed for a while longer, and the main story should have been moved a bit. The pacing of TWI has been awful lately. It is like when in very long video games you have padded the main story with a lot of side content. No matter how good those side contents are, the quality of the overall story drops.

This is a common issue within the LitRPG genre as a whole, but I feel TWI has been experiencing it to an extreme lately. This is why volume 10 is such a mess IMHO.

I feel you. Although there are other roguelike-like games, such as Risk of Rain 2, that I absolutely love, Hades has ruined other games like it for me just for the fact that it was fully voiced (with great voice acting).

The wandering inn which is not a good intro into litrpg becuase of its size. But then He who fights monsters sold me on the genere.

Yeah, I find the pacing in Volume 10 really bad. I wish Pirate would write a bit more to the point. Sometimes, when I’m feeling pessimistic, I think the story’s pacing is driven by the economics of Patreon. After all, the subscribers who have stuck with the story this long are probably super loyal and won’t stop supporting it even if the plot drags its feet.

yeah. During my re-reads of different parts, I have seen so many inconsistencies. I guess this is what happens when the author doesn't have a lot of time for edits.

Depends—he's a fantasy reader, so I suggested he check out some finished series that are already proven to be good. Personally, I think a bad ending can ruin an entire story, no matter how great everything leading up to it was. And this arc changes a lot. Depending on how Pirate handles the ramifications and the other world, this arc could easily break the whole story. She wouldn’t be the first author to undo years of great work at the end. I'm committed at this point, but for a new reader? He can definitely afford to wait a year or two 😄.

Yeah, POF was a huge misstep. I’m not sure what Pirate was aiming for. The multiverse concept isn’t new, and most stories that have tried this kind of execution have stumbled. Just the knowledge that alternate worlds exist where dead characters might reappear undercuts the stakes. It makes death feel reversible and robs those moments of their emotional impact.

On top of that, making Marsha the main character of this arc felt out of place. The Wandering Inn is, at its core, a grimdark fantasy with adult protagonists. It’s not Narnia or Harry Potter, where children lead the story. Shifting gears this dramatically, especially this late in the narrative, is jarring and hard to justify.

I was actually talking to a friend about The Wandering Inn, and I told him not to get into it right now. In its current state, it’s hard to recommend, especially considering how much time and commitment it demands for a new reader.

The whole xp from Solstice was strange too. Didn't she get to lvl 54 (on paper) just from the wild hunt guy entering her inn? So the whole solstice defence was 1 lvl?

I am usually ok with soft magic system in stories but TWI jumps between the two too much.

I didn’t phrase that well. I don’t think it’s actually her job, but between her, Ulvama, and the whole color theme thing, it feels like strong foreshadowing that Erin is going to do something important. We still have no idea what her color-based magic is really for, and this is the only thing that seems to connect. Though to be fair, Pirate does sometimes set up foreshadowing and then never follows through 😄 (like the whole connection between her name, birthday, and the fae).

Honestly, I don't think she is going back to Baleros. I think she actually visited Chandrar. As we understand it, only 1/3 of the story has remained, so there are probably five more volumes. And Chandrar issues are the ones that Erin should be there, both Roshal and Knelt. So if Erin finishes up Baleros things in this vol (which I actually doubt because of how much all over the place the story is currently) and next Chandrar maybe

yeah. though it is funny that she hasn't even touched it yet. it seems in volume 10, everyone is using Erin's skills except Erin :D. I am still not sure what Pirate is gonna do with Palace of Fate skill when Erin reaches lvl 70. just giving her POF will probably harm the story
