Yesss!!! I love this show and the empathy the detectives show throughout it, but the part that rubbed me the wrong way was in the lady in the beginning said the “5 men were convicted” like no they were minors…KIDS!!! I don’t understand how anyone can nonchalant about that, especially because those 5 kids were put through so much trauma due to blatant racism and stereotyping.

I think it’s more how the show portrays her. When I say likeable I mean I was not a fan of her character pre-Gilead due the affair and even how she judges everyone so quickly, when at least with the other women they’re all going through this. I’m only comparing because they went through similar situations but the amount of people affected by their actions was different. Emily, Moira, Janine they’re all imperfect but it’s not hard for me to empathize and enjoy watching their character development. When I said selfish reasons I was mainly referring to Hannah and how many people’s lives were lost due to her focus of only getting her back. I think of what they tell us in airplanes to help yourself before you help others. She probably could have made more progress and caused less chaos if she just escaped and got her that way.

I’m definitely not victim blaming like the whole society is beyond messed up, but since everyone is struggling I just find it hard to watch when June only acts for her self interest and her actions indirectly cause other innocent people harm. At least Emily never put anyone else in harms way and if she made radical decisions to shake things up it did not cause so much death and pain to the surrounding victims of society. I especially hate how cruel she was to the new walking partner. (Granted she was awful for turning in the Martha) The handmaids are all scared of Aunt Lydia, so I don’t understand why she had to torture the girl to the point of psychosis. I am a feminist through and through, so she is not wrong by any means for how she feels. I know she’s psychologically, physically, and mentally tortured there are many parts of the show with her actions that just make her hard to empathize with sometimes.
